This is a really interesting time for the Halo franchise. A few months ago, it was announced that a major shakeup was taking place at 343 Industries, with the company rebranding to "Halo Studios" and embarking on a series of new games using Unreal Engine 5. It served as the beginning of a new chapter with Halo Infinite slowly starting to wind down.
But now, we're kind of in limbo as Xbox fans. No dates were provided for when to expect anything new from Halo Studios, and the footage they showed off was clearly just proof-of-concept stuff rather than anything to sink our teeth into. The future looks exciting without a doubt, but we don't really have a great idea of what to expect.
Of course, that's where the rumour mill comes in. Last year, it was reported in June that the company appeared to be working on a new remaster of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, and just this week, it was suggested by Rebs Gaming on social media that we could potentially expect at least one Halo-related announcement in 2025:
Another big question this year is what Xbox's plans are for the history of the franchise. We all know that Microsoft is now making a big third-party push with the PS5 (and probably the Nintendo Switch 2), and again, we've heard rumours recently that Halo: The Master Chief Collection might be primed for these consoles at some point soon.
If that happens, will Halo Infinite follow suit? Is there a chance we could see the likes of Halo 5 and even the Halo Wars franchise on there too? If the Switch 2 can be used as a mouse, Halo Wars would probably be a great fit for it!
There are so many unknowns going into 2025 when it comes to Halo, and ultimately it could end up being an extremely busy year for the franchise, or a very quiet one. Perhaps we'll see something at the Xbox Games Showcase this summer? Or maybe this is just a year to build an audience away from Xbox and PC for the first time ever...
What do you think Xbox will do with Halo in 2025? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Switch 5 & PS5 added for MCC software.
I think it will just be the MCC for this year, (to other platforms) infinite may squeeze in at the end of the year, but I don’t think they will port lots of halo over in a short period.
Maybe also hear about a new game at year end too.
They're gonna port Halo MCC to PS5 and Switch 2.
And the moment it does that, it will be officially done for Xbox.
My advice - go back to basics; these last few entries just haven't been great tbh 🙂
Getting rid of lot dead weight within 343i (Halo Studios or whatever calling it this week) be great first step. Using those freed up salaries into next halo game and future halo titles be second great step.
It is obvious 343i needs an extremely good trim, starting from top down.
@anoyonmus i’m getting tired of that song and dance, also you would care less about halo now, but the rumor of it going over got you wanting it so you can brag Playstation won the console war?
@anoyonmus also there’s no way you can say that with a straight face and be considered a real gamer
Well going by rumours they’ll port Halo MCC to PS5 and Switch 2.
Aside from that I’m not expecting much as I don’t anticipate a new mainline Halo game to surface until 2027 at the earliest.
@ironcrow86 you can’t get more basic than Infinite. The most basic open world I’ve ever seen coupled with Halos fun gameplay. So I’m not sure going back to basics is even the answer at this point.
I love Halo Infinite and I think it's the best in the series or, at the very least, one million light years better than 5. I'm excited about what comes next, because 343 Industries/Halo Studios finally got Halo right. The story no longer is Hollywood drama, the gameplay is as good as Bungie's but evolved and the level and battle design also seems to have learned from the old titles.
Would be nice if $ony shared with M$, i don’t want a monopoly in gaming. it’s cool that halo (& possibly) gears is coming to PS, but $ony has been so complacent & comfortable for too long now it’ll only get worse than it already is
@nomither6
Why should Nintendo or Sony "share" with Microsoft when they've made it clear that they don't need too?
@Fenbops sorry my bad - by going back to basics, I meant go back to the drawing board, go back to what made Halo work in the first place and the like 🙂
@ironcrow86 I understood. It’s just that I saw Infinite as a kind of soft reboot and that’s exactly what they did, went back to basics. Sure it was open world which was a first for Halo but at its core it was your basic, fun Halo gameplay with what I thought was a less convoluted story without multiple pointless side characters we’ve seen in the more recent Halo games. That could just be me but I thought Infinite went back to basics to some extent 😂
@Banjo- I’ve always said Infinite’s gameplay was fun. I think they nailed how a Halo game should feel with Infinite. My problem with it was the dull, lifeless open world and lack of any real variety. The indoor more linear missions all felt copy and pasted from one to the next. For the time spent in development I thought it was shameful what we got from 343.
I think it’s the most fun modern Halo game, but the franchise deserves better.
@Fenbops After all they have learnt and now that they moved to Unreal Engine and don't need to support Xbox One, we should see more of the good stuff in the next entry, as the franchise and fans deserve.
@anoyonmus I think its more of day 1 on PS/N for newer games. Things like OW2 shook me way more than port of a 5 year old game.
Rumour says new halo is going to be on UE5. 2025 just ports of halo MCC and maybe infinite. And down the road new halo games on all platforms at once.
@TeiGekiLord first of all , who cares about nintendo , i didn’t mention nintendo at all, but it’s funny how they always get shoved in between conversations involving the two main competitors . secondly , i didn’t say they should - i said “it would be nice” .
it’s my opinion
@Banjo- Agree 100%
If Halo Infinite had levels in a Covenant ship and it retold the story of Halo 1 then everyone would consider it one of the best remakes ever. The gameplay and feel of moving and shooting, and interactions with the banished felt like the eventual but long evolution of Halo 1's gameplay.
Still waiting on my John/Cortana love story though.
@nomither6
First off because Nintendo has IPs but people act like they don't exist to pretend that Sony is evil and MS are good guys.
Second off, Sony has no reason to ever put their games on Xbox.
@TeiGekiLord i don’t give a damn about nintendo, so there’s no point in you talking to me about it. you seem to be trying to start an unnecessary argument with me based entirely from your own misconceptions
go find someone else to troll
@Banjo- I agree with @Fenbops the feel of Halo Infinite was right, but there was a real lack of variety in the environments and mission design that dragged it down by the end for me.
Still, it was 100% a step in the right direction after 5s campaign. Loved 1 through 4 and reach.
Look, I've had good times with Halo. Played 1-4, Reach and ODST. Played them all again in co-op when the wife got into them. We fell off 5 probably about halfway through it though, and by the time campaign co-op came to Infinite, we kinda didn't care; we played a bit of it but abandoned it pretty quickly. I don't think I care about Halo anymore.
Microsoft will never abandon it though, because for some reason Xbox fans seem to cling to it like it's the be all and end all of Xbox. Which is fine, I guess. But how long do people have to get hung up on Halo sticking around while being quite mediocre before enough is enough? It's not like 343 Indus... sorry, Halo Studios, has done a good job of shepherding the franchise so far.
That turned into a ramble. 🤣
@Millionski Possibly. But who knows at this point.
@Markatron84 No, that totally makes sense. I think part of it is that it gives the Xbox some brand identity and when you have brand identity you have a core fanbase that will support you. I'm not going to defend Halo Studio, but even after all these decades Halo, John and Cortana are still iconic. I knew about them long before I ever got an Xbox.
Playstation has lost a lot of their former mascots like Crash and that weird little cat thing, but they understand brand identity which is why they're leaning so hard into LoU, Horizon, and GoW. And Nintendo has a toooon of mascots that they will always have a die hard fanbase.
What does Xbox have in comparison? Doom Guy? Maybe? It needs Halo, even if it's only in cross-promotional material.
@Utena-mobile see some people here don't quite understand. The reason why I said Xbox is gonna be even far worse off if they port Halo to Switch 2 and PS5 is because this is the game that made Xbox what Xbox is. Giving Halo to PlayStation and Nintendo is the equivalent of giving away God of War and Mario to competing platforms.
Xbox isn’t Xbox anymore they are in a fire sale and only thing that matters is listening to the stock holders even if it means killing the brand
Halo 5 gives me the same issue I had with gears of war how Xbox is so eager to kill the face of the franchise but luckily they had backlash using less of master chief …. Gears judgment should’ve just used kate and the the squad honestly and the original gears keep the same face

I hated infinate. While the mechanics were nicely polished, I thought the campaign was the worst designed and most boring campaign I'd ever played, I could not believe what they had done to Halo - and dropping couch co up campaign was a dreadful decision no doubt but prompted by the need to have it running on series S.
So getting MCC into more hands would be a great move in my opinion, so many more people can enjoy and get to love the franchise and appreciate why this IP deserves more games and more chances.
I do appreciate many of you love Infinate, but in terms of great shooter mindshare we must surely all accept that Halo is not top of the pile for modern gaming audiences now, and given it's heritage it really should be. Letting more people play classic Halo would surely help the IP to regain the momentum it needs?
I was hoping that MS would give the franchise to ID - I bet they could make a great Halo. But I still wish 343 all the best with this cherished title and I hope the next one regains it's top honours. It was halo 2 that ensured I'd be buying Xbox thereafter and opening up those earlier games to larger audience will help cement it's place in history and build more demand for another great release.
@Utena-mobile yeah, brand identity is important. But when clinging to that brand identity gets us one ok game (Halo 4), one mediocre game (Halo 5) and one mediocre game that was so ineptly managed and slapdash that it took literally years after it was released to finally be feature complete, I again do have to wonder when enough is enough.
Maybe the move to Unreal 5 will streamline the development process by finally using an engine you don't need to teach every single new Halo Studio hire and the next Halo will blow the doors off the industry. But I'm not holding my breath.
@Titntin
Is that a proposition? 🤔
@Markatron84 whoops thanks for pointing out the autocorrect nonsense... appreciated 🤣
After reading today that Sony have cancelled another 2 games, it's looking more and more like Microsoft are in the driving seat when it comes to any deals with Sony.
@Coletrain @Utena-mobile Yeah, it's mostly the gameplay and battle design what I love about Infinite and, while lacking variety in the design, the core is perfect.
One of the problems with Halo 5 is that the battles are simply mediocre shooting in poorly designed scenarios and that many people were disappointed with the story and characters. Halo Infinite has excellent gameplay and battles. The story being more focused and realistic makes the whole package enjoyable. It's meaningful that they listened to Halo fans after 5 and that, after an undoubtedly troubled development, managed to impress most critics and players.
Halo was not one of my favourite IPs at first, but now I appreciate how unique and cool the gameplay still is, after many years and copycats, with interesting lore and characters to boot. The first title is a pioneer in the genre and Halo Infinite is the evolution of that.

My guess is Halo CE remake announcement this year for 2026 release or they will announce it next year.
@anoyonmus You are correct on this.
If any Halo game goes to other consoles, it's time for me to move on. Everyone has a right to their opinion, including me. I'm just going to remember the good times I had with Halo CE, Halo 2 and Halo 3 and be done with it.
@anoyonmus Not at all. MCC is amazing and my thoughts are it will be a very big shot in the arm for the Franchise if True.
So much doom and gloom. I love Halo. I want more Halo. If porting to other places makes that happen so be it.
What is the diffenrce of it going to Switch and PS5? It's on PC. God Of War is on PC?
Halo not being only XBOX does not justify owning a console? I don't get it. I have been with Xbox since day 1. I'm not outraged or upset. I understand the loudest voices are "heard" and far more compalin than priase but man on man is the Doom exausting.
@Romans12 But Why? MCC is not selling a console or bringing new users to the Franchise? it will get more interested in the Franchise if playable elsewhere.
@Markatron84 I think that when the games are not at their best it is more important than ever to use the mascot for brand identity and cross-promotion.
It's like Sonic games (I could tell you like Sonic, lol). There was a moment where it was really rough being a Sonic fan with one poorly made game after another. But Sega kept using Sonic, knowing that the character, and the brand identity associated with him was stronger than the games, and they got through that bad period and now Sonic is back, better than ever!
The problem with Xbox is they don't use John and Cortana so they're letting the games speak for them. We NEED more John and Cortana and more Halo. We need them in Xbox commercials, and Fortnite skins, and as controllers etc etc. until the next Halo game comes out.
Microsoft will make poor decisions and drive the franchise into further disrepair. It was best with Bungie, it at least had a creative direction with Halo 4 but it's clearly now on borrowed time.
