The weekend starts here! There's so much to discover on Xbox over the next few days, including more Xbox Game Pass additions, 10 Xbox Free Play Days titles (!), a free trial for EA Sports FC 25, and lots of great deals on the Xbox Store.
Here's what we're playing this weekend:
Fraser Gilbert, Editor
I'm actually playing a couple of games for review right now, and unfortunately I can't talk about either of them just yet! Beyond that though, my obsession at the moment is with Football Manager 2024 on PC Game Pass, which I really do think is the best Football Manager ever. The console version's alright, but I love the PC version.
As always I have a bunch of things in my backlog that I probably won't get to, but can I sneakily tell you what I'm most looking forward to at the moment? Super Mario Party Jamboree. I barely ever use my Nintendo Switch, but I'm a sucker for a good Mario Party... and it feels like this could be one of the best we've ever seen.
Have a good weekend, folks!

Xbox - Doom 3
Xbox 360 - Dead Rising 2
Series S - Forza Motorsport
Happy gaming.
Started another run at Dragons Dogma 2. Playing as a thief this time & it's going good so far.
I am still as bored with the main story as I was in my previous play through but i have enough exploring & other side quests that I stay entertained.
Astro Bot continues to be my go to, as I’ve not had much game time, so I just “help my son” when he wants to watch me play… and we’re using my save data, which is nearly complete now, rather than his, so who is helping who now? Anyway, I’m really close to having all bots and puzzle pieces, so that may happen this weekend.
Elsewhere, I’d like to play more Mr Mosquito and Skygunner. Talk about the best month of PS+ ever to have those two launch at once. I’ve yet to start Plucky Squire too, and I want to. Maybe this weekend?
I’m in no rush with games, as I had to buy a new car as an emergency (as a trade in) and my wife needed a new one too, so we collaboratively did the responsible thing. Now, I will have to rely on my preorders for the rest of the year, which means goodbye future Switch games as Zelda still isn’t even on Amazon to preorder. The insanity, am I right? So it’s looking like I’ve got four or five PS games for the rest of the year, which is plenty, but… man… maybe I can make an exception for Zelda, right? What’s money anyway? Who needs it? Maybe I can figure out a side hustle?
Gotham Knights and Paper Mario (N64) this weekend
Pretty much the same as last week
Star Wars Outlaws - still really enjoying this game. I think Im getting close to the end of the story so Im gonna mop up some trophies and get that platinum as well 🙂
Astro Bot - Amazing! The game just has fantastic level after fantastic level! Love it 🤩
The Plucky Squire - had to try it for a bit, seems very good but it’ll have to wait. Need to finish the games above first 🙂
Just reached the final chapter in Black Myth: Wukong last night. Going to go back to chapter 5 and grab a couple things I missed, and then see if I can't finish off the rest of the game this weekend.
EA Sports FC 25 , Mass Effect and a lot BBq this weekend

I'm doing a chaotic replay of The Surge 2. I'm moving to a new apartment so my budget for games is not available at the moment lol.
Under the waves started it the other day and really enjoying it it's quite relaxing just exploring the ocean. On Xbox I'm trying to finish Star Wars outlaws and playing Far Cry 5 Vietnam dlc. Might give FC 25 trial a go too.
I'll be playing elden ring try finish off the main story with my Dex character and hopefully start the dlc will play a bit with my new magic character aswell and I'll play some master chief collection hopefully finish off combat evolved and get a start on halo 2 but dying for the fight tonight can't wait!
Yakuza Kiwami for me. Finally trying to get around to the non-Ichiban games.
This weekend I'm continuing my playthrough of Trails through Daybreak(Yes I did take a break from the series...for like a day or so) and this is easily my favorite game in the series by far but only because my journey through the series up until this point has been really rewarding in general.
I'll also be playing the demo version for Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven and more Space Marine 2 this weekend.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss (Vita) - Nearing the end of my Hard playthrough.
Microsoft Wordament (Android) - Dailies and Adventure mode.
Free Slots Fun Factory (Windows Phone) - Won't stop crashing. I'm not sure I'll be able to play this.
Once the f1 finishes for today, Im going to go and beat my head against a wall.... and by that I mean try and get a little further in Black Wokong, which is testing my poor old man reflexes bad! 🤣
Im also looking to finish off Astrobot as some light relief, its such a joyful experience.
... and I really want to get back to some Diablo 4, I keep meaning to and getting distracted..
Whatever you are playing this weekend, I hope you have fun!
@somnambulance Ouch. Sorry to hear about the car issues. Sometimes its hard to deal with expected expenses, never mind big suprise ones!
My only advice would be dont take my advice! When it comes to games and hardware I have little self control....
Wargroove 2 on Game Pass. Very addictive GBA-style turn-based game with elements of Fire Emblem and Advance Wars. Quite tough too - it really makes you use terrain and critical hit advantages to win.
I decided to give Cassette Beasts another try as I need a certain achievement… also started Power Wash simulator as a palette cleanser… have a great gaming weekend!
This weekend on PS5 I'm playing Astro Bot, Stellar Blade (only 3 suits left to find) and Alan Wake 2 ng+. I love how they integraded the DLC into the main story, very nice touch.
On Xbox I'm doing some sidequests in Witcher 3.
On the Switch I'm doing some sidequests in TotK.
It's not often I'm jumping between all 3 consoles but when I do I absolutely love it.
None other than my most anticipated Game of the Year.

@Titntin
Is your lack of sell control putting you in the queue Thursday 🤣
Star Wars Outlaws (Series X). Clocked up around 30 hours so far and still enjoying it. Have only this week gone to Tatooine for the first time. Could have gone earlier but was saving it 😂 saying that, I still haven’t gone to Mos Eisley yet - I’m saving that now 🤣
Astro Bot (PS5). Serious GOTY contender here. I’m only doing 1 or 2 levels a day, and just taking my time. Amongst all the family friendly levels there are some really tricksy ones too!
The Plucky Squire (PS5/PS+ extra) Really nice concept, and love the way the game seamlessly transitions between 2D and 3D. However, I’m not a fan of the word puzzles, which are very tiresome 🥱
I am playing Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2
I got the platinum for Astro Bot yesterday! A true sign of how much I loved it, because that’s only my second platinum, I don’t go out of my way for them. After that I started up Space Marine 2, the best modern 360/PS3 game out there. I’ve also been playing Skyrim on Steam Deck on the side.
Playing The Answer DLC of Persona 3 Reload (pretty boring tbh but I wanna finish it).
I'm also playing Trials and Tribulations from the Ace Attorney Trilogy that's about to leave Game Pass. Amazing game.
@FarmDog08
Good luck with that, man!
You enjoying it so far? Yoiu've got quite the journey ahead of you.
Picked up Age of Wonders 4. Only the base game so far, but may pick up the DLC down the road if it goes on sale. But loving this game so far. Basically Deep Fantasy Civilization.
@Lup pretty good. I still prefer the turn-based. I'm about halfway through it. I've been doing a lot of the Majima Everywhere stuff and some sub stories. Playing on easy to keep it all moving nicely.
@OldGamer999 off course it is! Cant help myself:)
@Titntin I have little control too! I’m bummed out that I’m probably going to skip Indy til next year now when I can get more bang for my buck with an Xbox/Gamepass binge! I’ll be real, I’m probably going to get Zelda… even though I definitely have enough to keep me entertained without it. Much like you, I’ll probably take my tired reflexes back to the struggle of Wukong if the well dries up a bit for a moment.
@FarmDog08
Glad to know, man! Kiryu is a good protagonist too once you know him. But he's different from Ichi, yeah.
Majima Everywhere was fun but then got a little annoying if you unlocked all the skills.
The Division 2 campaign. One of those games I'm not sure if I'm enjoying or not. Confusing. Such a fantastic premise and setting for a game. The base gameplay is kinda fun but takes no thought and is extremely predictable. It has an ultra-realistic aesthetic juxtaposed with very robotic and arcadey game loop. I get no joy out of looting and rearranging my equipment every 10 minutes - conversely, I'd prefer to feel attachment to a few pieces. I think I like the first one better due to its sense of loneliness and dread, but this one plays slightly smoother and there are actually more than four enemies at once.
@Titntin
Wow someone just like me 🤣
Good luck by the way.
Am actually playing a lot of Efootball and really enjoying it. It’s rough and ready but actually really good fun.
Spending my time this weekend playing The Last Campfire. Purchased recently on a whim when it was on sale, it turned out to be one of the most charming and thoughtful little games I've encountered in a long time. It mightn't be everyone's cup of tea, but oh my goodness, it sure is mine!
Almost done with the phenomenal Astro Bot on PS5. I’m also catching up on X360 games on my ROG Ally. I missed them because I had a PS3 back then. I started with Forza Horizon 1 which plays beautifully and looks great even today! Think I’m going to play all Horizon games consecutively as I just love this series (so far only played 3,4 and 5).
Persona 3 Reload and boardgames with friends
World.of Warcraft (PC) It's that time of the year again on Azeroth, Brewfest. I love the holiday events in WoW and Brewfest is my favorite. So I will be drinking takards of ale with my fellow members of the Horde while doing the events.
Borderlands 3 (Series X) I am really enjoying this game the more I play. I am mopping up some side quests before I continue on with the story.
No More Heroes 3 I'm still chopping away at, mostly due to the RNG drops from bosses. I want all the achievements and that's up to RNG... I've had to repeat certain bosses 40+ times for one drop.
I started Little Kitty Big City last night and I'm in love with the charm of it. Janky, but oozing charm and creativity. My 15 year old tabby cat hopped up onto the coffee table and leaned towards the TV to get a look at the cat wearing a mushroom hat. This game passes the Cat Test! My boy wasn't too thrilled with the cute cat intruding on the TV though.
I also wrapped up Lost Words: Beyond the Page this morning. A short game that I'd never heard of on sale for chump change and ended up being shockingly great. Story about accepting the passing of loved ones, while platforming around in a fantasy world created to cope with the loss and pain of it all.
@UndyingInsurgent95 keep looking at surge 2. Is it worth it? How many hours for a completion
Persona 3 on my xbox; Paper Mario TTYD on my switch; and FF rebirth on my ps5 (Still struggling with the combat system…. I miss turn base FF)
Started a rogue in Diablo 4 so I'll he grinding on that. Never played it before so first run through
@gollumb82 what an excellent thing to do! Myself and the misses love all the Forza games and we bought 1,2 and 3 on disc about 18 months ago and played them through in order. Its amazing what a solid game it is right from the off, with the series staples established pretty much right from the start, and 2 and 3 have some amazing designed courses and great looking environs. I hope you enjoy them as much as we did.
Ive agreed with the misses that we are selling the series X, and the biggest regret of that decision for us is losing access to those fantastic titles. We have 4 and 5 on steam, but those first three titles still have a magic of their own..
Unfortunately, I am playing Code Vein with a constant agony.
Only 2 more achievements left for platinium.
I did not know that this game is so bad and boring.
Unfortunately I am on NG+5 because game has a despicable glich that does not give you "good ending" trophy on NG+1
I had to unlock the "Dweller in the Dark" tropy on NG+4
Probably, this is the worst game I experienced since Mid-90's.
I will get the remaining trophies and start to enjoying my life again. Fingers crossed...
I'm playing Star Wars Outlaws this weekend. The instant fail stealth missions were a bad direction, I think. Other than that and some smaller complaints, I think it's been pretty decent so far. Looks pretty good on PC!
@ozkrmz
Ah, Code Vein.
Such a good game.
I remember playing it at launch with a buddy and it was such an amazing experience that I took the platinum.
Also, the connection to the God Eater series was pretty unexpected but fun.
I eventually gotta replay that and go for a solo playthrough.
🥰
@Titntin
Hey man! Long time no read haha. Forza Horizon is the staple of arcade racing fun to me. I really need a break from sad dad games and decided to play through all those games because they give me joy instead of PTSD lol. I’m shocked at how well FH1 has aged. Still looks and plays great to this day, while I really like the Colorado setting. Got FH2,3,4 and 5 all lined up and waiting their turn. I totally get you as to the Xbox Series X situation (and the general state of Xbox). I’m disappointed in MS, Xbox and Phil with the way things have gone this gen. Series X is a great console, but there is no point in owning one. That said, the Days Gone remaster debacle and the way Sony has been messing up this gen as well I’m this close to leaving consoles behind altogether. I’m seriously considering getting a proper gaming PC in 2 years or so (gotta save up first). I had one 2 years ago but made some mistakes in going all in on gpu and cpu, while cheaping out on cooling and RAM sigh.
@brettvsgodzilla Completely worth it, especially the Premium Edition. As for the longevity, I get around 25 hours on one playthrough.
@ozkrmz I love Code Vein, one of my favourite souls likes. Being able to switch between builds to suit the enemy/environment was amazing.
This weekend I'm playing through Space Marine 2, loving the old school corridor shooter feel.
@gollumb82 Well good luck with that, whatever you decide to do!
I invested £4k in a PC 2 years back, but PC gaming is not for me and I quickly remembered why I'd stopped it 20 years earlier. I spend half my gaming time on a PC playing with drivers, fiddling with settings or just being distracted by other stuff. I just wanna sit on the sofa, press go and game, so consoles are likely to be my main go to for as long as I can
Just me, but I dont have a problem with remasters, no ones forcing me to buy them and Im full to the brim with games, so the 'why dont they make' arguments dont sway me much. If my backlog were not so full, I might make more of an issue I guess!
Have fun! Youve planted the seed now, I might have to boot up a forza game 😂
@Titntin
Haha, don’t try to resist the urge 😎 I don’t mind tinkering with computers, settings, drivers. The Ally that I use is essentially a Windows PC and I tinker with it more than I game on it 😁 I like consoles and totally respect your opinions on both having a preference for them as well as remasters not being forced on anybody. Having said that, I do mind those if they make no sense (TLoU2, Horizon, Days Gone, Until Dawn) because they take away resources from other projects. It’s kinda disheartening that devs prefer to remaster recent games, release lazy sequels or chase after the next Fortnite instead of going for a bit of creativity and originality. I do realise that I’m in the minority here and the games I mentioned don’t sell (gaming’s become too big for its own sake IMO, causing corps to step in and make it all about shareholders etc). I’m a huge fan of the 7th gen of consoles as they had it all. Lots of new IPs, gadgets, new tech (Blu-ray, buzzers, kinects, cameras etc), couch coop games. Yes, I loved Lair on PS3 😂 Okay, rant over. Enjoy your gaming device of preference and your game of choice for this weekend 🙂
Fired up Star Wars: Jedi Survivor yesterday for the first time. Very enjoyable so far. Cool environments, excellent combat and chilled out fun. This might be my pick up n play for a while.
Rock Band 1 in 2 player for the first time since 2019, lego ninjago and assassin's Creed ezio collection again. I love the 360 era. Playing games from that era with their enhancements is still great fun
Well here we go with another wonderful WAYP. Been a great and cool week around here. Speaking of cool Happy Fall to everyone. Easily my favorite time of year. Most of the week was just the usual games like Trails Into Daybreak and Dawntrail. Cracked open that Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP AND Plucky Squire and honestly of the two loved Plucky Squire more it’s just so charming whereas Lollipop well it still feels outdated for sure. Also played Yars Rising and honestly that game is incredibly charming and loads of fun. Most of the weekend when not working was taken up by Emio Famicom Detective Club, Trails into Daybreak and more Star Wars Outlaws. Trying to see Tranformers One with a friend but if that falls through I’m thinking the rest of the weekend will be again more Trails and Visions of Mana. Otherwise I’m thinking this week is mostly gonna consist of some Ace Attorney, Trails Through Daybreak, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, Paper Mario, Bakeru, Dawntrail, Astro Bot, Emio, WWE 2K24, Star Wars Outlaws, The Plucky Squire and Visions of Mana. Think I’m gonna try to crack open the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster on my day off. Of course like most people here I’m also excited for the release of Echoes of Wisdom. So freaking hype. Also preordered that Silent Hill 2 Remake and still have that money put aside for Yakuza Kiwami on Switch and YS X on PS5 so pretty happy there. Also got that WWE2K24 Global Superstars DLC I was waiting on so I think alongside it I’ll wrap up the Showcase mode of that game I really am happy about adding wrestlers like Lyra Valkyria and Kairi Sane to that game. Only other wrestling thing I wanna mention this week is short and simple. WWE Bad Blood has pretty sure all of its matches decided like Rhea Vs Liv and Cody with Roman Vs Solo and Jacob and I just can’t wait I’m so hype. I’m especially interested to see who faces Nia Jax there: Bayley or Naomi. Anime of the week gotta go to Nokotan, Alya Sometimes Speaks in Russian, Oshi No Ko and Mission Yozakura Family. Again all of these anime are absolutely killing it they are some of the best anime this year. Podcasts of this week gotta go to Castle Superbeast, Big Think Dimension, Into The Aether, RPGsites Tetracast, Minnmax, Jeff Gerstmann, Kit and Krysta, Last Stand Media, Easy Allies, Second Wind, Nextlander, Cultaholic Wrestling, Weapon Wheel, Aetheryte Radio and Remap Radio. As always yall stay safe, be extremely wonderful to each other. Have a totally wonderful weekend and of course Happy Gaming.
