Here's what we're playing this weekend:
Fraser Gilbert, Editor
Let's be honest, work is taking up the majority of my weekend! In the spare time that I do have though, I'm probably going to be spending it with the UFL Open Beta, which just went live on Xbox yesterday. I'm a sucker for a football game no matter how good or bad it is, and I'm very keen to see what this new footie title has to offer.
Beyond that, it'll probably be more Baldur's Gate 3 or maybe some Judgment, perhaps with a little Rolling Hills: Make Sushi, Make Friends sprinkled in. I downloaded that last one a few days ago, and I'm really loving it so far.
Have a good weekend and enjoy the Xbox Games Showcase, folks!
What will you be playing on Xbox this weekend? Let us know down in the comments below.

I’m in between stuff at the moment. I gave Roboquest another go but it still makes me motion sick. It’s a real shame because I love everything about that game.
I’m pretty busy this weekend so I’ll probably just end up watching the rest of not-E3 hoping for a tasty shadow drop.
After not gaming on it since October, I finally returned to my ps4. Final fantasy 15 will do before I start ff7.1 on ps5.
Maybe yoshi Island on gba as well.
I just had a couple of matches on the UFL Open Beta this morning and imo it’s atrocious. I understand it’s not representative of the final product but I really don’t think EA have anything to worry about it competing with EA Sports FC.
I'll be playing night springs dlc for Alan wake 2 and I'll be finishing off jedi survivor just at the end now and probably some eafc and elden ring
Senua's Saga, Night Springs dlc for Alan Wake 2 and Asgards Wrath 2 for me (if I have time!).
Had a few hours on Jedi survivor on series x this morning.
Got to clean the car 🚙 and eat 🤣
Hello there fellow gamers.
Since I have finished AC Origins (again) and both dlc (for the first time), and I am still in the mood for these type of games, I just started AC Odissey last night, so I´ll be playing that one on my Series X.
As for my PS5, I´ll be playing more online SF6 matches and maybe I will finally start Rise of the Ronin.
Cheers everyone and happy gaming weekend to us all
Forza Horizon 3 and Uncharted 4 (ROG Ally).
I'll check out the Night Springs DLC!
Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend!
On Xbox: Red Dead Redemption and Modern Warfare 2 Remastered
On Switch: Cassette Beasts, Trails of Cold Steel IV and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
On PS5: Probably going to play Armored Core VI
I’m still playing Dragon’s Dogma 2.
I decided to mop up a side quest that had me looking for rare grimoires. One of my pawns suggested I go back to the beginning — Melve, the first settlement I came across because a shopkeeper is supposedly selling a tome I’m after. My first time there, I saved the town by repelling a dragon, and helped rescue a woman, whom later relocated for various reasons. As I arrive, I discover the town is much different from when I initially was there. I wasn’t even allowed in unless I bribed my way in with gold, and so I did.
The townsfolk that resided there was being held captive, abused and being treated like slaves by the Queen Regent’s guardsmen. As a result, I couldn’t purchase any items from the shopkeeper. However, I did find the original ruler of the town inside the local cathedral and he presented an opportunity. He was organizing a group to fight back against their captors, but there was a problem — all of their weapons had been confiscated. He suggested I secretly bring him a few swords and I agree to aide him. He needed four total and I already had two in my inventory, so the job was halfway finished.
As I’m leaving the town, I get approached by two men. Brothers, in fact. The same brothers I decided to help out when I first began my journey. They told me they know where their weapons were being held, a storeroom safeguarded by two soldiers. Since I helped them out earlier they wanted to repay the kindness by causing a distraction, allowing me to slip in unnoticed. It sounded dangerous, but I couldn’t turn down the offer. One brother began clapping, causing a ruckus and drawing their attention, before hurriedly fleeing and having the guards chase him.
Once the enemies were out of sight, I creeped inside, procured the remaining weapons and handed them out to the select townsfolk that wanted to rise against their captors. When the moment was right, the people of Melve took one last final stand, eventually making the guardsmen retreat. The town was restored to its natural order, but the people felt unsafe there. They had recently survived a dragon attack, and the Queen would most certainly exact revenge. The residents decided to pack up their bags and relocate to another settlement — the same village the female resident I saved long ago was now residing. But before they left, I managed to purchase the grimoire I had been searching for.
Several days later, I make my way to this new village. The people I rescued were there, and everyone was happy. The female resident I saved from a dragon attack was also present - a woman who was clearly smitten with me since that fateful day. She, too, thanked me for my services and asked if I’d like to accompany her on the beach later that evening. Of course, I obliged. With the stars and skies above, our toes in the sand, and a campfire burning behind us, there were two other things on fire — our hearts for one another. One thing lead to another and we decided to become romantically involved.
All of this happened naturally and randomly. If I hadn’t had taken my Pawn’s advice I would have missed a really intriguing quest line. Moreover, the brothers I helped during my fifth hour in the game made their presence known 95 hours later. These types of moments have occurred often, in ways that were unexpected. This is why Dragon’s Dogma has blown me away and has become my favorite RPG of all time. Long live the Arisen.
I gave a list of games last week that I was planning to look at through June. Open roads was on that list, but I just couldn't get on with it, so that got kicked out pretty quickly. Then I saw that the bookwalker was leaving gamepass and decided to look at that too - same story as Open Roads for me unfortunately.
That has kind of killed my optimism for trying something new at the moment so I've gone back to EA Sports PGA tour for a while.
Hoping tomorrow's showcase reinvigorates me.
Happy gaming everyone 👍👍
Busy weekend as usual but might be able to squeeze in a couple of hours in AC Valhalla.
Finished:
Redfall - not as bad as rumored, but still became a slog. Shooting is pretty good, storytelling is not.
State of Decay 2 - so much potential but isn’t as immersive or varied as it could be due to cardboard NPCs and repetitive goals.
Gears of War 4 - same boring gameplay, with maybe the worst dialogue I’ve ever heard in a game.
Playing:
Wolfenstein TNO - so many micro cutscenes to interrupt you. Too much story, weird tone clash. Gameplay is pretty fun though once they finally let you off the leash.
Got kind of hooked on Humanity. Great little puzzler for those who like puzzle games. Also still playing Jedi Survivor and can't wait for tomorrow's showcase. Hoping for some updates and new reveals (especially Gears of War!)
Bramble: The Mountain King - I'm almost done! last of the three games leaving game pass after finishing High on Life and The Bookwalker.
Diablo 4
Balatro
Slay the Spire
Possibly picking Planet of Lana back up that I put down to play the games leaving game pass
I'm playing through High on Life before it leaves Game Pass. I think the "humor" is terrible to be honest. Its simply not funny - there's nothing clever about swearing just to swear, and it comes across as trying way too hard and falling flat every time. And that's a shame, because I think the game itself is actually quite good. Now that I'm over the halfway point, I have unlocked enough weapons/modifiers/abilities to make combat so much more enjoyable that it was during the first few hours. The way that the weapons are useful for both combat and exploration is actually pretty smart, although I don't think they quite push the limits of the potential there - maybe they do by the end, I haven't finished it yet of course - but the concept there is easily my favorite aspect of the game. The weapons are super annoying (when they open their mouths), but also, super unique and interesting to use. I almost gave up on the game a couple hours in because I thought the game was irritating and shallow, but I'm glad I didn't, because it's actually irritating and deep, and the depth is more clever and fun than the irritating is offputting and ruinous.
Also can't wait to play the Alan Wake 2 Night Springs DLC!
@RaZieLDaNtE
Odyssey is such a great game. One of my favorites. Hope you enjoy it!
@everynowandben I just played through the game in the last week. The humor was very hit or miss with me, probably more misses than hits. A lot of the dialogue, especially for Kenny, almost seemed like it was improv'd with a lot of repeating the same words. There were some parts I found pretty funny like the dying teddy bear who asked you to stay with him and then multiple times when you walked away he would come back to life and call you out for leaving. In fact, they used that same kind of positional audio a lot like when you would walk away from an npc that was still talking, the dialogue would change. I also am a fan of JB Smoove who voiced Gus which I actually didn't realize until the credits rolled.
I agree with you, the weapons being useful for combat and exploring/environmental puzzles was very enjoyable. Overall, I had a good time with the game and glad I crossed the finish line before it left game pass.
@The-Grezzly-Bear I finished Bookwalker yesterday and I enjoyed it quite a bit but I can also see how it won't be for everyone. I liked the concept of having the 3D apartment environment and then the isometric levels when you go inside the books. It was neat how you sometimes had to go outside of the book to get an item in the real world and brick it back into the book to get through some levels although I think they could have done more with that.
Viewfinder - finished and platinumed. Very good puzzle game, pretty unique and if you like these kind of games I can really recommend it!
Destiny 2 The Final Shape - rocky launch as expected, but didnt even try to play at release given the history of previous releases 😊 That said, Im enjoying the Final Shape. They´ve brought back a lot of things for this, maps, locations, characters, guns that never should have been limited by power levels etc. Some very nostalgic moments so far, guessing more are to come as I havent finished the campaign yet. But I have a good feeling about this, that it might actually be a good ending to the Light and the Darkness saga. Still, I´m going to put Destiny 2 down when I´m done regardless of how fun it feels now. Dont want to be sucked in again, I can already feel it tugging at me, wanting all my playtime and Id rather end on a high note than playing until the inevitable wall of total fatigue and weariness hits.
Cities skylines 2 and fallout 76 on xbox. Probably a couple rounds of halo Infinite as well. (Cities skylines 2 is so much better than at launch. Amazing game)
Also trying to get through astral chain on switch. I'm not digging it but trying to power through.
I remain entirely out of step with my peers, and my gaming interests remain entirely my own, so it should come as no surprise to anybody that this weekend on my Series X will be all about one of the greatest video games to ever grace our planet - Alba: A Wildlife Adventure!
I am trying to clear some space for all the shadow drops on Sunday! But seriously need to mow the lawn and assist in the gardening … but then some Brotato Assassins Creed 1 and see if I can get into Octopath Traveler….
Ice Age Village (Windows Phone) - Felt like a resource management game and this will fit the bill.
Microsoft Bingo (Windows Phone) - Time to start on the next game I'm deleting when I beat
I started Hellblade II finally, so I'll probably play through some more of that. I feel like I can't play through more than one chapter at a time, so I don't think I'll finish it until some time next week.
I was looking through the list of games that may leave Gamepass in July and saw Arcade Paradise on there, so I will try to start that up too.
More Fallout 4 on Series X. I noticed that the last time I got an achievement on it was March 2017! This means I’ve forgotten enough about it to get a different play through. The new visual upgrade is good, don’t get me wrong it isn’t suddenly Hellblade 2, but it looks much nicer than it once did.
Diablo IV. The newest season is pretty good. Gonna hit lvl100 for the first time.
Im also playing the new Alan Wake 2 DLC. And if I have time I'll hunt down some more outfits in Stellar Blade.
Last week was able to finish Hellblade 2 and it truly is a special game, especially considering it was made by a indie size team. Once I saw the really short credits you can’t help but praise what they’re were able to do with a small team. Was playin inmortals of aveum and was having some fun but in the middle part things drag and become difficult in the not so fun way so had to stop 🙃. Did try the new graphics mode and it look pretty good but with some stuttering in cut scenes. This week will finish Psychonauts 2, truly one of the best 3D platformers I’ve ever played, the story is simply nuts in the best way possible 😂.
XDefiant (Series X) Grinding out more guns and unlocking more parts for them. I am reallying loving this game as it's filled that FPS gameplay that I have been missing since CoD died.
World of Warcraft (PC) Now that I got my Troll Paladin to 70 I am grinding out mounts. Might start a Death Knight here in Pandaria Remix.
Mega Man V (Nintendo Switch) Like alot of us this release took me by surprise. I have been wanting to replay this game and since I don't have my 3DS anymore this was great news having it come to the NSO.
Grand Theft Auto IV.
Humanity, lords of the fallen, octapath traveler...gamepass is on fire!
Trying to finish 2 games that are leaving Game Pass.
Bramble and the Mountain King and The Book Walker.
A little Ace Attorney Trilogy and Double Dragon Gaiden on the side.
@Lup Hello and thanks friend. I´m enjoying it very much.
Good to know that more people like AC Odissey.
It is a very different AC game, but it is, so far a pretty good open world stealth action rpg.
And Bramble and the Mountain King is quite a interesting game,
that´s for sure.
Cheers and have a good one

Well here we go again with a special birthday WAYP. Yep that’s right it just so happens June 8 is my birthday 🥳. It was a pretty great one won’t lie. Got to play some AI The Somnium Files Nirvana Initiative and the Alan Wake 2 DLC Night Springs. Night Springs is particularly excellent and makes me wanna platinum that game. Also saw Furiosa. Excellent movie and great times with friends. My best friend also got me the rest of Spy X Family so now I proudly own it all. Enjoyed Summer Game Fest and am super looking forward to the Xbox Games Showcase. Thanks to SGF that rounds out the rest of my birthday purchases as I got the SF6 Year 2 Character Pass because I need that Terry and Mai, Destiny 2 The Witch Queen and preorders on SMTV Vengeance and Concord. And in total from other family I also have copies of Monster Hunter Stories, Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble and Trails Through Daybreak. All for all an excellent time. As for the rest of the weekend I’m thinking a nice meaty session of Persona 3 Reload after work. No switch sadly. As for the rest of the week I’m thinking a rotation of games like Paper Mario and Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth. More progress on Nayuta and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. I actually just resubbed to FFXIV for Dawntrail so I think I wanna knock out the Endwalker Pandemonium raids before that too. And I also kinda definitely have decided I wanna really focus on and learn Unicorn Overlord and beat it this year. It’s a really neat game. Otherwise it’s probably just more of the other games I listed. Anime of the week gotta go to Kaiju No.8, Delicious in Dungeon, Urusei Yatsura and Go Go Loser Ranger. That last one is exceedingly awesome. Oh and special shoutout to Shameless again. Here in Season 10 they really managed to make me feel super sad with the leaving of Fiona from the show. Podcasts of this week gotta go to Castle Superbeast, Big Think Dimension, Into The Aether, RPGsites Tetracast,Minnmax, Jeff Gerstmann, Kit and Krysta, Last Stand Media, Easy Allies, Second Wind and Nextlander. And of course we wouldn’t be quite done without a big fantastic awesome shoutout to my dear friend over at twitch.tv/akibread and their amazing streams please give them a look. Again it’s been a great birthday weekend and I’m excited for all the game reveals at Xbox and this months Nintendo Direct. As always yall stay safe and be good to each other. Have a awesome rest of your weekend and week and Happy Gaming.
