A new year begins, and this marks our first weekend of it! Xbox is remaining quiet at the moment (we're expecting things to kick off again next week), but don't forget to check out Carrion - it got added to Xbox Game Pass on Thursday!
Here's what we're playing this weekend:
Fraser Gilbert, Editor
I could get used to having two days of work followed by a weekend! Not sure what the plans are, but I know that Baldur's Gate 3 and Judgment are back in my mind at the moment - two great games that I really need to play more of.
Beyond that, I'm still pretty hooked on UFL, something like NHL 25 might get a bit of playtime as well, and I think I'd actually like to dip back into WWE 2K24 - all I ever do is play MyGM mode on there, but that's all I need to be honest!
Have a good weekend, folks.
Craig Reid, Video Producer
Is it the weekend already? With all the New Year celebrations and late nights, I’ve completely lost track of time - but hey, more gaming time is always a win in my book!
Recently, I wrapped up Indiana Jones and the Great Circle with a neat 1000GS bow. I fully invested hours into that story, and now I’m craving another grand adventure. Up next for me is Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. I’ve heard great things about its narrative and writing, which is exactly what I’m keen to sink my teeth into.
If I find a few extra hours, I’ll probably split them between Marvel Rivals, NBA 2K25, and Insurgency: Sandstorm. Considering the latter is leaving Game Pass soon, it might be worth checking out while you still can.
Happy New Year, and merry gaming!
Ben Kerry, Staff Writer
As usual, I'm heading into the new year hoping to trim down my huge backlog of games, but we all know that won't happen, right? On that note - I'm probably going to spend the most of this first 2025 weekend checking out the Squid Game crossover on Black Ops 6. This event looks very cool indeed; a nice change of pace for Call of Duty.
One other title I might try and get stuck into this weekend is Those Who Remain. This one has been on my 'to-play' list for ages, and well, now that it's leaving Xbox Game Pass this month I might actually get my arse into gear and play through it!
Enjoy your first weekend of 2025, PXers.
What are you playing on Xbox this weekend? Let us know down in the comments below.

I just got Dredge and the dlc during the sale.
Indiana Jones for me and loving every minute of that game.
I
Now I'm finished robocop which is a brilliant game I'm going to continue playing after just starting either Indy or Hogwarts but more leaning to Indiana Jones happy weekend everyone!
Doing my annual Minecraft migration.
For the last couple of years I have had a tradition of spending a year building up a settlement & doing all the creative building fun I enjoy with Minecraft in the area.
Then once the new year rolls around I just put on my elytra & fly 20K + blocks in a random direction, destroy my elytra and start over in the new location. I find it to be a good way to get that fresh start feeling while keeping the same world & it helps keep the game interesting to me.
I have the coordinates of my previous settlements & eventually want to link everything up via a Nether transport hub but that's still in my distant future plans.
Hope everyone has a great gaming New Year.
Just finished Indiana Jones on xCloud. What a game! Made me want to try other Machinegames output, so I’m playing Wolfenstein: The New Order and I’m having a blast.
On PS5: Stalker- Shadow of Chornobyl. Halfway through it and it still holds up.
Gears Tactics, having a lot of fun with a grenadier build for my main Scout.
Hmm.
I honestly don't know what I'm going to play this weekend.
I beat Marvel's Spider-Man 2 yesterday and am still figuring out what I will play next.
@Fishysensei Your profile pic it the best!
Back to work on Monday, but for the past week I’ve been playing Stalker 2 on Series X. I found it takes a bit of getting into, but now I am, I’m having a great time, in a Fallout-but-tougher way. I enjoy the random element of the Zone, where groups of NPCs sometimes clash fatally and you can help yourself to loot, and on one occasion an NPC squad attacked the same objective I was sneaking up on and did a good part of the job for me!
I haven’t noticed any bugs in the 30+ hours I’ve played, so I think the patches have sorted that, however it is sometimes unhappy with quick resume. I really didn’t care for the English voice acting at all, so I switched to Ukrainian with subtitles.
Congratulations to Luke Littler the youngest ever PDC world darts champion which he won last night.
Fellow gamer and sponsored by Xbox for the tournament, with the Xbox emblem on his shirt worn during the whole tournament.
Probably just play Marvel Rivals. While it certainly is a straight clone of OW, playing as marvel heroes is a lot of fun. I'm sure I'll get bored after a while like I do with most multiplayer games but for now it's a nice change of pace.
I finally rolled credits on Dragon Age Veilguard. Thoroughly enjoyed this game and is probably my GOTY for 2024. It speaks volumes for the game when only after some 118 hours of play I was starting to get the first twinges of burnout. I now have a big hole in my gaming schedule, and don’t know what to fill it with 🤔 I want to do another play through on DAV as a mage, but think I should probably take a break from the game first 😂
Darkest Dungeon 2, I think I've got a good team now ready to push further, I've completed 2 of the confessions.
When friends are around, some For The King 2. We finished 1 adventure and we're hooked.
Finished the first Hellblade, such a good and important game. The making of video made it even more impressive. Finding my next game from the Game Pass backlog now. Gears 5 wasn’t it for me. Will probably try Redfall or Diablo IV next.
At the same time playing some Puzzling Places on my PS VR2, lovely game. I also need to keep reminding myself to continue with Call of the Mountain, but despite the visuals it’s starting to feel like a drag. I want to finish it though before I start Walkabout Mini Golf or Pistol Whip.
Thought I’d use this week to summarise my gaming in 2024. I had 650 gaming sessions with my most played games being:
1. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (PS5 - 64 sessions)
2. Persona 3: Reload (XSX - 63 sessions)
3. Diablo IV (XSX - 40 sessions)
3. Divinity: Original Sin (XSX - 40 sessions)
5. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (XSX - 38 sessions)
5. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch - 38 sessions)
7. Vampire Survivors (Steam - 35 sessions)
8. Balatro (Steam - 33 sessions)
9. F1 23 (PS5 - 26 sessions)
10. F1 Manager 23 (XSX - 25 sessions)
10. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (Switch - 25 sessions)
10. Yakuza: Like a Dragon (PS5 - 25 sessions)
My most played platforms were:
1. Xbox (245 sessions)
2. Playstation (157 sessions)
3. Steam (151 sessions)
4. Nintendo (86 sessions)
5. Meta Quest (11 sessions)
I’d like to return to Indiana Jones on Xbox after a two weeks hiatus or so from it. I’d like to start Detective Pikachu 2 after just not playing it since launch… and I’m almost sure I’ll play Overcooked on PS5 as my wife randomly started to want to play this one, so we’ve been doing exactly that.
My time will probably be all for Metaphor until I finish it.
Really good so far.
Zelda - echoes of wisdom - Its really a special feeling to play a new Zelda game 🙂 Been on a family vacation and the switch is just perfect to bring! I really enjoy the game, love the visuals and that its a top down view, brings me back to LttP 🙂 it is however, imho, a bit heavy on the echoes focus and it feels to gimmicky. Need a bridge or a tower to climb on, build it from gravity defying beds. Need to heal during a boss fight, make a bed and sleep in it between boss attacks... But its a minor complaint really! Now we're back home Im thinking about pausing it until next trip, we'll see.
Jusant - wanted a relaxing game on the ps5 in between other games and this is perfect for that!
This weekend I’m being consumed by anomalies in Stalker 2. I’m shocked I’m still playing this game after 105 hours; and yet I cant see myself stopping anytime soon. There is so much to explore and discover, and it’s the most immersed in a game I’ve been in years.
Nothing on Xbox. I caught a cold from new year partying so decided to use my recovery days to plough through the remainder of Pikmin 4 on Switch, which had been left unfinished on my backlog for a while now. Finally ticked that one off the list, nice.
Now I either have the choice of Nier Automata or Ni No Kuni next, but not sure which one I should opt for.
Elder Scrolls / Oblivion (X360)
FINALLY getting into after 18 years
Animal Well on switch.
Wwe 2K24 and Indiana Jones on Xbox.
Can't finish Indy until my 80yr old MIL comes round because she's so invested in it.
So, I'm continuing with Veilguard. Paying more attention to combat, ie primers and detonators, combos etc. Lots to like about the game and not going to dwell on the negatives for now. Reckon the gameplay might get boring after 20+ hours though.
Banishers ghost of new Eden, clearly one of the best games of 2024 a hidden gem for all the story driven adventure game.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (Series X) Still continuing with this wonderful game
Baseball Stars 2 (Series X) I don't know why but I have been wanting to play this game lately. Haven't played it since I had my Wii.
World of Warcraft Classic Vanilla (PC) Still enjoying this game. Just got to Orgrimmar for the first time with my Tauren Shaman
Bought a pdp guitar and playing Rock Band 4 on the PS5. Stupid or not, playing this daft rythem game is providing me and my wife immense fun!
I bought Gotham Knights for under £10 in the sale and I've really enjoyed the first few hours, the production values are very high. I certainly feel that it's a good deal at this price!
Cosy game is Snufkin - in the moomin world and my wife is a big moomin fan.😀
I'll be back to some more Star Wars Outlaws later. I know a lot of people are tired of the ubi open world formula, but I still enjoy that structure.
Whatever you are playing this weekend, I hope you have fun ..
Finished Shadows of the Damned Remaster last night, and I will try to finish up Hellblade 2 later.
I've had a huge smile/terrified expression on my face this weekend so far. Two gaming dreams come true - Indiana Jones (bloody marvellous!) and I've finally got the VR mod working for Alien Isolation which looks absolutely incredible almost 11 years on.
Dead Rising Deluxe Remastered and Disney Dreamlight Valley.
@Titntin every once in a while I pull rockband 4 out of the basement, and without fail a bunch of my friends see me playing it (thanks discord status) and they give me a bunch of grief. Screw em, it may be out of fashion but it's still a fun like no other game even though my skills are pretty gone at this point. Now you've got me thinking about unearthing my lego rock band just to try the keyboard again...
Working till Sunday morning, then 4 days off. Will be jumping back into Indy and the Great Circle definitely. Absolutely loving it, nails the vibe perfectly. Especially in between playing we've been re-watching the movies too, good times.
Probably pick up a few games in the sale too, as a new years treat.
Have a great gaming weekend peoples, and a merry gaming 2025.
Indy for me and loving it. Also still getting through Hellblade 2. Yes I'm a slow gamer.
@Ricky-Spanish I feel Robocop and Indiana Jones are very similar games. They both take beloved 80's IP and turn them into a FPS experience similar to an unreleased movie in their respective series without relying completely on shooting mechanics. Indiana Jones obviously has a much higher budget.
Microsoft Wordament (Android) - Dailies and Adventure mode as usual.
Gravity Guy (Windows Phone) - A decent platformer so far.
iStunt 2 (Windows Phone) - Nearly done with getting all the stars in every level.
Resident Evil 4 remake. Late to the party with this but I'm really enjoying it. Think I'm close to end as I've defeated village and castle areas.
@Avaloner I just hope I enjoy Indy as much as robocop I played nothing last night and just watched robocop 1&2 haha didn't want to play anything else but robocop so I just watched the movies!
Little bit of Indy and DQ3 remake.
@shonenjump86 how is the Dead Rising remake? I loved the first one and want to get this one of its good.
@Cakefish I'm currently playing Ni No Kuni on Switch and I'm enjoying it. It's a mix of Pokemon and JRPG with a light-hearted narrative. Also be prepared to grind a little bit to advance.
Nier Automata on the other hand it's a masterpiece for me, so you can't go wrong with neither of those two.
Currently replaying Avatar Frontiers of Pandora.
Thoroughly enjoying it, again.
Currently playing a combination of power wash simulator, EA Sports WRC and playing through the Halo MCC campaigns on split screen with my 8 year old.
The aim for first part 2025 is to finish the games I started and never got back to in 2024
Namely;
Back 4 Blood
The Callisto Protocol
Gotham Knights
Well here we go with another interesting WAYP. The week was just more GOTY hunt again but with some new things. Trails Through Daybreak, Emio and Metaphor with some Mario and Luigi and YS X. Yeah with YS X we beat it finally and honestly the ending of that game was awesome it totally makes me wanna get the YS remake or whatever it is coming out on the 7th and just play more YS. Yall should definitely check it out. Most of the weekend was spent with Fantasian Neo Dimension. Started that on New Years and it’s seriously super cool honestly it reminds me of Sakaguchis previous work Lost Odyssey and I’m seriously loving it. Rest of the weekend I’m thinking is gonna be some Marvel Rivals or Borderlands 1 or Arranger or maybe Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 as yeah I picked that up to play with a friend and I ain’t ever tried a Warhammer thing. Beating YS X really did take away an easy pick tho ahahah. Thinking that the end of January will be the deadline for GOTY. Otherwise I’m thinking this week is mostly gonna consist of some Trails Through Daybreak, Emio, Dawntrail, Metaphor, Mario and Luigi Brothership, Super Mario Party Jamboree, Bakeru, WWE 2K24, Wuthering Waves and Visions of Mana. Wanna start Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake as the first switch game of the year. Also wanna try to stop at GameStop and get preorders in on the first big games of the year like Dynasty Warriors Origins, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, Trails Through Daybreak 2, Like A Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii and Monster Hunter Wilds. Also maybe get enough digital currency to buy a copy of YS Memoire The Oath In Felghana and Tales of Graces F Remastered. The wrestling thing this week is Monday Night Raw on Netflix. Thinking it could be excellent with some of the matches like Roman Reigns Vs Solo Sikoa in tribal combat, Rhea Ripley Vs Liv Morgan for the Woman’s World Championship, and CM Punk VS Seth Freaking Rollins. With John Cena starting his farewell tour and countless more surprises? Think we might have peak on the way. Anime of the week gotta go to Dandadan and Dragon Ball Daima and Shangri La Frontier and Yakuza Fiancé and Ron Kaminohashis Forbidden Deductions and Ranma 1/2. Dandadan got finished up and honestly it may have the best shot at anime of the year it’s legitimately one of the best things I’ve ever watched no joke. Podcasts of this week gotta go to Castle Superbeast, Big Think Dimension, Into The Aether, RPGsites Tetracast, Minnmax, Jeff Gerstmann, Kit and Krysta, Last Stand Media, Easy Allies, Second Wind, Nextlander, Cultaholic Wrestling, Weapon Wheel Podcast and Remap Radio. As always yall stay safe, be cool to each other. Have a totally awesome weekend and of course Happy Gaming.
@Foxx_64740 I decided to dive into Nier Automata first and then do Ni No Kuni second. I played a few hours and liking it a lot so far, just beat a boss in the desert area.
@GeraltWhiteWolf I enjoy it. Brings back memories of playing the original back in 360 days. The AI survivors is much improved.
