Welcome to the weekend! We've got a handful of new Xbox Game Pass titles to check out over the next two days, along with cool Xbox Free Play Days additions, the Monster Hunter Wilds beta, and lots of sales on the Xbox Store!
Here's what we're playing this weekend:
Fraser Gilbert, Editor
I've come down with the flu over the past few days, so I'll be spending this weekend feeling sorry for myself! In the process, I'll probably be playing a lot more Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator which just launched earlier this week, along with the free PGA Tour 2K25 demo that's really impressed me so far - I might end up buying it!
WWE 2K24 is calling to me as well after the Royal Rumble the other week, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is sitting in my library waiting to be played, I'm slowly making my way through Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles, and Football Manager 2024 has sunk its addictive hooks into me on PC Game Pass. I need more time for all these games!
Have a good weekend, folks.
Craig Reid, Video Producer
I made a very daft choice this week.
See, when I play games for our video capture and reviews, I often end up hastily ploughing through the narrative to make sure I get everything I need for the footage. Typically, I don’t get to experience the game at a naturally slower pace.
And that brings us to the very daft thing I did. Despite being about 37 hours into the story—me, being the muppet that I am—decided to start a new game on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
But you know what? I’ve absolutely loved playing it from the start again. So yes, I’m a dafty, because KCD2 is going to take up every spare gaming minute I have this week. Yep, that’s the plan!
Happy gaming, folks!
What are you playing on Xbox this weekend? Let us know down in the comments below.

Started Aliens Dark Descent this week. Pretty fun so far. I've heard the game is pretty challenging so I'm just playing on normal, and even with that I'm struggling. Don't know if ill end up finishing it or not because I'm just biding my time until Avowed drops.
While I'm waiting for the release of Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, I've decided to replay one of my favorite games ever made, Banishers Ghosts of New Eden.
Also, I can't get Kingdom Come's romance out of my head. Hans and Henry are so adorable lol!
Hello there fellow gamers.
Having finished my second playtrough of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black on Hard, I´ll be switching gears and continue to play Metaphor Refantazio. I´m at the end game, finishing side quests and maximizing bonds.
Might also dable between Street Fighter 6, Dungeons of Hinterberg and Ninja Gaiden Black.
Cheers everyone and happy gaming weekend to us all
Mostly 4x games while I wait for civ 7. Humankind and civ 6 will be the primary games this week. Halo infinite, flight sim, and Mario golf super rush are also candidates. Holding off on starting a new single player game until avowed.
NG2 Black
Indy
Far cry new dawn
All GPU
On PS5 I'm still on Visions of Mana it's starring to feel a little repetitive now I've also started High On Life humour is a bit hit and miss but I'm enjoying it. On Xbox Sniper Elite Resistance and Black Ops 6. Also playing Medieval Dynasty don't usually enjoy these types of games but I've put close to 30 hours into it so far and barely scratched the surface really like it.
This weekend I’ll mainly be focusing on Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. I never played the first entry, but Warhorse posted a ten minute summary on their YouTube channel and it really helped me get a grasp on the story.
So far, I’m a couple of hours in, but I’m very impressed. The writing is absolutely top-notch, with incredible voice acting and animations that bring the characters to life. The cutscenes themselves are high quality. I don’t think I’ve ever said this about a video game before, but it has a movie-ish quality to it, from its cinematography and direction.
It might be the most immersive game I’ve ever played, with incredible RPG mechanics and dialogue choices that genuinely make me pause and think about my responses. I really can’t wait to dive deeper into this medieval adventure.
On a side note, earlier this week I finished Unicorn Overlord and got the platinum trophy. What a fantastic game, and easily my favorite Vanillaware title to date. I can’t wait to see what kind of game they follow up with.
I’ve also been on an independent horror kick. I saw through Steam that a game called Fears to Fathom: Ironbark Lookout got positive reviews. The trailer seemed interesting so I picked it up. In my opinion, it was quite mediocre. Tonally, the game was great, and it featured great atmosphere, but everything else was subpar. And the way the narrative unfolds seems to be directly ripped out of a “Let’s Not Meet” Reddit story. Nonetheless, I got the platinum and immediately uninstalled it.
I’ll also be chipping away at the Mafia Definitive Edition platinum. I’m playing on classic difficulty and currently on chapter 12/20. It’s been fantastic, but I strongly dislike the collectible system in the game. Technically, the game is considered “open world”, but you are never incentivized to explore your surroundings because the main story is structured very linearly. A lot of collectibles are story related and hard to miss, but some are inexplicably in obscure places that don’t make sense in its design, while subsequently having a “free roam” mode to have more hidden collectibles. I think it’s poorly designed and not implemented in a way that is logically sound.
Eternal Strands. This game is so well done, it needs and deserves far more attention than its getting.
Getting back into Hitman and sinking some time Dying Light 2 and probably Dakar Rally
Far Cry New Dawn for me. Enjoying it so far.
Lollipop Chainsaw Repop and Sniper Elite Resistance.
Hello everyone, I just recently purchased my son a series x like 2 days ago.He loves playing story driven single player games! Any recommendations would be appreciated and hope you have a wonderful weekend ❤️
Civ 7
Been getting that ***** day one since Civ 2. Every single DLC and expansion as well. Not gonna divert from the one more turn path.
Jumping between CP2077 and Starfield, with a bit of Forza Horizon 3 and Dirt Rally 2.0 on the side. Decided to keep 3 games on my ssd permanently as I can get lost in them for hours on end. All 3 satisfy a kind of childish fantasy I have had since childhood of being a badass cyberware-enhanced merc (CP2077), a space explorer (Starfield) and a cowboy (RDR2). Made me decide to get an expansion card later in the year. Have a good one everyone!
I will be wrapping up the exquisite Momodora Moonlit Farewell. After that, only sweet heaven knows!
This weekend I'll mainly continue playing through Tales of Graces f Remastered on PS5, Ninja Gaiden II on Xbox(and possibly Far Cry Instincts: Predator) and Fantasian: Neo Dimension on Switch.
Will probably play other games here and there aswell.
Decisions, decisions. Working through Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth second playthrough on Legend to get my final 3 achievements for 100%. Thinking of maybe going back to Dragon Quest XI S again, but Avowed is coming soon. So that may be on hold.
@Raine1364 Both Star Wars Jedi games!
@Isolte He is old enough lol..Just basically new to the xbox ecosystem! He's not to big on multiplayer games
@FarmDog08 Thank you for the response I will tell him 😊
I'm still working my way through Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and I'm enjoying it a lot. I'm also playing some Starship Troopers: Extermination as the new 1.2 patch has launched and it seems to have fixed some issues on the console side, I've seen much less crashing since the patch thankfully.
Shooting nazi testicles (& other body parts occasionally by accident 😉) in Sniper Elite: Resistance. It is more of the same but that isn't a bad thing in this case.
Usual Minecraft stuff & assuming the Playstation network stops ***** the bed some GT7, hopefully.
Series X - Halo Wars 2, Far Cry New Dawn, AoE4
PS5 Pro - Astro Bot Playground, Wipeout Omega Collection and a bit more God of War. Downloaded, played and deleted the F1 demo - very underwhelmed by the so-called Pro enhancements.
Have a good weekend everyone.
@Raine1364 Abdolutely. They are fantastic games. Probably age appropriate too, depending on his age.
I am making a very long overdue visit to Rapture for Bioshock 2!
I started Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. It was about time. Enjoying it so far, although I think it's incredibly easy.
I also need to continue with Jedi Survivor, but I remembered I wanted to watch Rogue One before that.
Tell ya what im not playing, my ps5 pro lol. (Its currently a brick until psn is back up)
That said, ill be diving back into visions of mana this weekend on the series x. Perhaps a bit of forza.
@Raine1364
Both "A Plague Tale" games if he's old enough for some gore and death and amazingly well written depressing stories.
If he's not against japanese games, the Yakuza games are amazing.
Yakuza games are on Game Pass. A Plague Tale, were but I'm not sure if those left or not.
No time again this weekend for any game play. Have watched a few YT vids on KCD2 this week and I might be swayed to buy it soon. Have way too much life stuff to sort out first though.
@Raine1364
Great games already recommended here I see, but I will add Ryse: Son of Rome. It holds up remarkably well thanks to Cryengine, it’s fairly short but memorable.
Just started Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, only a few hours in and its tough as nails but making slow and steady progress and loving every minute of this game. It's like a Medieval version of Read Dead Redemption 2.
I've started playing the original Forza Horizon again for the first time in many years! Seeing the news of older, delisted games, such as FH3, appearing on the store reminded me I've been meaning to play it again for a while, and I've been having a blast with the nostalgia! Well wishes to Fraser as well!
I have been playing Doom and Quake for some nostalgic FPS… somehow Slay the Spire has snuck up on me again and it’s a good palette cleanser…
Playing Star wars outlaws this weekend, and enjoying it.
God of War Ragnarok
Great game so far, roughly half way through.
On Xbox:
-Visions of Mana
-Wwe 2k24
-Ninja Gaiden II Black
On switch:
-dragon quest 3 hd2d.
If I'm being honest, the more I play this one the less I'm liking it. I'm at what I would call the midway point after looking at a guide. So about 16hrs in, mid 20s for levels.
The novelty and beauty sort of wore off for me. What hooked me right away was playing a beautiful looking old school jrpg. It just got a bit stale though. Should've seen it coming, it's whats expected from a 30 yr old famicom game. Still trying to decide if I want to finish it or move onto something else before XCX comes out.
The Sims (PC) I forgot how addicting this game can be. I am trying to do a playthrough without cheats.
World of Warcraft Classic (PC) Continuing my journey across Azeroth. Currently in Ashenvale. Level 23 Tauren Shaman.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (Series X) Finally finished with Giza and now I am in Siam. The story is really picking up now and I am enjoying it alot.
Continuing my BG3 Durge run on Series X. Broke into the Devil’s house to nick his hammer. He wasn’t best pleased. A very tough fight ensued (although they are all pretty tough at this point) and I haven’t been able to win it yet. I’ll give it a few more tries, but I saved just before going there, so I might skip it as it’s not really necessary for the endgame - I was just interested to see it.
@gollumb82 I bought Ryse for a fiver a while back but the game wouldn’t install past the menu page. Hope you have better luck.
@gravelmonkey
That’s weird. I played it 2-3 years ago on Game Pass and it worked without a hitch.
PCVR Pico 4- Skyrim FUS Modded VR
PS5- Horizon Forbidden West again
Series X-waitihg for Avowed Day 6 on Gamepass
With PSN down, it's definitely an Xbox weekend! Indy and I've restarted Forza Horizon 4.
Whatever you are playing this weekend, have fun!
I’m working through Tales of Arise which I should be able to finish before it leaves GP next week…I def won’t have time for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night so I’ll pick that one up and the DLC while there both on deep discount
Well I started the latest Forza horizon game and I'm playing a bit of immortals infinitum or whatever it's called🥴 but I'm gonna start Hogwarts tomorrow it's either that or the Witcher 3 and I'd say I can complete Hogwarts in less time so I'm going with that haha!!
Happy weekend peoples!!🙆
@Medic_alert I have to do that myself some day bought the remastered trilogy on xbone and still haven't completed any of the games again on that version only 360 they are all great games!!🙏
Just Finished Dragon Age The Veilguard.
102 hours of gaming goodness.
The last 5 hours or so were amazing. Best game I have played in along time and worth every penny.
Shame about the dodgy reviews. Think they have contributed to poor sales figures. It's not a masterpiece it has faults. It is close though.
@Ricky-Spanish I have only ever played the first one.
It is my opinion that Rapture might be one of the best settings for a game ever. It is a little bit of a shame the first game relies quite heavily on the story twist which for me somewhat kills the replayability of it.
But a definite Xbox 360 great.
@Nic-Noc20th-C so glad to see someone else loving Dragon Age Veilgard! I'm almost ashamed to say that I'm 16 hours into my 4th full playthrough. It's my favorite game of all time. The characters are fantastic and so well written and voice acted, the quests aren't just fetch or kill and none of them have gotten old yet, and the combat is my favorite of any game ever. Those haters who keep bringing up Dragon Age Origins need to remove their rose tinted glasses and go try it again. It's old and clunky. And to think Origins came out after Mass Effect.
@Isolte Thank you for the recommendations I will definitely show him this list
@Rog-X I am always looking to save $ I also heard CDKeys is a good place is that correct
@Lup Both of these games are looking really good! Thank you
@gollumb82 How long would you say Ryse is
Microsoft Wordament (Android) - Dailies and Adventure mode as usual.
Halo: Spartan Assault (Windows Phone) - This game has been great so far! Halo makes for a great twin stick shooter!
Microsoft Minesweeper (Windows Phone) - Haven't played in almost a week, time to get back into it.
@Raine1364
I think it took me 6-7 hours to complete.
Also, I totally recommend cdkeys.
My controller has succumbed to a toddler attack and is currently broken so I’ll be dipping into Grim Idle and Vampire Survivors as they don’t require the right analogue stick 😂 I also started God of War Ragnarok on PS5 in the week and that is rather brilliant so far.
Have a good one everyone and get well soon @FraserG 👍
Since last week I´ve mainly been playing
Life is Strange Double Exposure - I've managed to find the time to finish and platinum the game. Its a really good game imo, but I dont think its as good as the first Life is Strange or Before the Storm. Its more of a Hollywood story with a happy ending, which isnt bad in itself but the darker story and impact of the choices (especially the last one) in LiS felt more significant and emotional and theres no moment like that in Double Exposure which makes it a bit less good imo. Its also a new story with new powers but they still chose to go with Max as the lead character, which isnt necessary at all imo. The game is good enough to stand on its own. This all makes it sounds as I didnt enjoy the game but I really, really did and I look forward to more LiS in the future. Also looking forward to Lost Records 🙂
Sniper Elite Resistance - Playing in short bursts, still enjoying it!
Far Cry New Dawn - Had to try the 60 fps upgrade on the Series S, which is great and sort of made me want to play the game again. Hopefully I´ll get to play some co-op with my son but he and his friends have discovered how fun the Far Cry games are in co-op after finishing both 5 and 6 so I might not get the chance...
@Raine1364 I wholeheartedly suggest Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. It is regularly on sale so should not be too expensive.
Removed - off-topic
@Raine1364 Death Stranding is weird, but fantastic.
Indiana Jones is well worth a look too.
If he wants all out action, you can't do much better than Gears.
Jedi fallen order or Survivor are well worth playing too!
That lot should keep him going and cover most bases! I hope he has fun 😄
@Ricky-Spanish Nothing funny about that scenario at all? Why would you wish ill for fellow gamers?
As it happens it's back to normal... which is a great thing..
@Titntin Just a bit of bants no harm meant✌️
@Avaloner I will definitely tell him I know he likes the movies
@Titntin Thank you I will give him your recommendations the Jedi games seem to be the popular votes lol..The Indiana jones that almost looks like a movie
@Ricky-Spanish 👍😄
I am playing the games same as previous weekend:
1 - Grim Dawn
2 - Warhammer 40.000 DarkTide
I'm taking a break this weekend, up in the mountains and away from the screen. I am looking forward to Avowed.
I have been playing my switch- feel like I didn’t use my Zelda OLED enough before 2 comes out. Grandia 2 and Metroid zero mission (last 2d Metroid for me to beat) Will be jumping into Avowed when it comes out
Well here we go with another cool WAYP. The week was some good fun games all around. Mostly Trails Through Daybreak, Emio and Metaphor with some Mario and Luigi and WWE2K24. Didn’t beat Metaphor or Emio but hey man sometimes work gets in the way. Gonna try again this week at least with Metaphor. Did start Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Dynasty Warriors Origins. DK is a charming platformer with excellent level design while Dynasty Warriors is just addicting with its combat. Most of the weekend was spent with the Monster Hunter Wilds Beta. Gotta say it is pretty good like the combat has genuinely improved in a way that I was just downright blown away by. Can’t wait for that game at the end of the month. The monsters look so cool too. Other than the Super Bowl this weekend I’m thinking the rest of this weekend I’m thinking is gonna be some Fantasian Neo Dimension. That game is genuinely charming and has such a cute artstyle and has some great characters and story. Otherwise I’m thinking this week is mostly gonna consist of some Trails Through Daybreak, Emio, Dawntrail, Metaphor, YS, Mario and Luigi Brothership, Super Mario Party Jamboree, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and WWE 2K24. Also gonna try to preorder Clair Obscura: Expedition 33 and DOOM The Dark Ages too for real this time. The wrestling thing this week being the lead up to WWE Elimination Chamber. The Women’s and Men’s Chamber matches are already filling up with hit stars amd I’m excited for more Qualifying matches and other things on the card. Anime of the week gotta go to Dragon Ball Daima and Shangri La Frontier and Solo Leveling and Okitsura and Sakamoto Days and 100 Girlfriends. They all continue to be absolute bangers with Sakamoto Days as the clear stand out by far. Podcasts of this week gotta go to Castle Superbeast, Big Think Dimension, Into The Aether, RPGsites Tetracast, Minnmax, Jeff Gerstmann, Kit and Krysta, Last Stand Media, Easy Allies, Second Wind, Nextlander, Cultaholic Wrestling, Weapon Wheel Podcast and Remap Radio. As always yall stay safe, be awesome to each other. Have a totally awesome weekend and of course Happy Gaming.
@Raine1364 Guardians of the Galaxy is my pick for him!
