Over here in the UK, we have a popular BBC radio series called Desert Island Discs in which celebrities choose a selection of songs that they'd bring with them to a desert island - it's just a way of asking for their favourites basically.
So, how about we do the same with Xbox games? For this weekend's discussion, we thought we'd ask you which three Xbox games you'd pick if you could only play those games for the rest of time (or at least for a very long time!).
Of course, you might want to choose something recent from the lists down below, but we're assuming the majority will go for the classics - Halo, Gears, Forza... that kind of thing. Keep in mind that if you could only play three games though, you'd want to pick at least something with a lot of replayability, so that might change your list slightly.
For example, I'd probably a throw a Football Manager in there. It's not my favourite game on Xbox by any means, but it's absolutely packed with replayability, and I know I'd keep coming back to it again and again for years to come...
So yeah, what's your Xbox version of Desert Island Discs? Tell us down in the comments section below.

COD, Forza Horizon and Starfield! Shooting, racing and adventure!
Elden Ring and Minecraft. But then I would like something like Factorio. Is that on XBOX yet?
Virtua Fighter 5 FS, Coral Island, TES6.
This is assuming that Coral Island is complete, same with TE6. Starfield if I can’t have TE6. I could possibly swap out VF for Yakuza/LAD/RGG 6 as it has VF5FS in it and some other games (plus being a full game by itself). But I have to have VF.
Diablo 4, Gears of War and Red Dead redemption. Thats about all i play now seeing as nothing is coming out that I care very much for.
Ori 2, Gears 5, FH5
Halo MCC, Gears 3, and Forza Motorsports 4
Probably Elden Ring, RDR2, and, to game the system, one of many retro compilations. This would be a most bang for the buck scenario
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Persona 4 Golden, probably.
Master Chief Collection
Rare Replay
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection
I’m the kind of guy who finds a genie and wishes for more wishes.
@Lup Spot. On. Other than Persona. I could never get into that series.
-Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
-Assasin's Creed Odyssey
-Lost Odyssey
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (even though it lacks the FMV of the PlayStation version), Elden Ring, and...hmm...tough choice, not sure I could pick a 3rd without kicking myself that I should have chosen something else.
fallout 4
skyrim
fallout 3
All games that would last me forever
mass effect legendary edition
fallout new vegas
Bioshock collection
Elden Ring
Starfield
Red Dead Redemption
That's enough to wait out those sun kissed days and starry nights....
Much easier to answer for me than you might think.
I will go with:
Skyrim
Fallout 4
Starfield
@Ryu_Niiyama I’m glad to see there’s still Final Showdown players (I play Taka). It was difficult finding matches compared to Vanilla SFIV (I like Boxer, you can tell I like big men).
The Witness
Tower of Guns
Minecraft
Well if there is no internet to verify purchase how would you be able to play?
Forza Horizon 1
Fable 2
Geometry Wars
It took me 2 seconds to answer that
@Yousef- I don’t like to play online (too many sore loser messages from randos) and no one in my fighting game group plays VF but me. However VF is my bread and butter. The reason I bought a 360 was for VF 5 Ver C. I also split time between the versions (I still play Ver C because I feel Vanessa got nerfed too much), and I play Ultimate Showdown sometimes (FS is my main though).
Vanessa is my main but I do play Kage or Aoi for oldtimes sake (started with VF 2 so Kage was my main until VF4). I am mostly a Ryu main for SF, but will switch to Makoto or Elena if they are in game. I like all rounder fighters or tech fighters (Vanessa is pretty much all I have ever wanted in a fighting game character) but try to play a woman when I can (even with the Capcom life problem). So grateful that SF6 has a character creator.
Minecraft
Assetto Corsa Competizione
Last one is a bit tough. Something like Fallout 4 or Baldurs Gate 3 or maybe Diablo 4
Skyrim
Age of Empires 2: DE
Forza Horizon 5
This is isn’t hard to do considering they don’t have very much. Halo, Minecraft maybe sea of thieves. If it was a limited three, it would have to be some thing that has actual replay value and longevity without a true ending otherwise, you just be replaying the same game over and over and over again, which will get boring. Also, I don’t know if there’s a lack of clarification, but when you say Xbox, I would assume you mean Xbox only, so something that’s not multi plat? That would make me choosing sea of thieves and Minecraft redundant. Now we’re talking in general at the moment. The only thing I do play on Xbox is Fortnite and Minecraft that’s it.
Skyrim
EA PGA Tour
Starfield
Rocket League
Mass Effect Legendary Edition
GTA Vice City
stupid question
1. Baldur's Gate 3
2. Mass Effect Legendary Edition
3. Gears of War 5. However, when they release The Marcus Fenix Collection, I'll take that instead! 😂
I went with Gears of War 5 because that has the best Horde, though in reality, I prefer the Gears of War 1, 2 and 3 to 5, so I'm somewhat conflicted.
Strong contender would be The Bioshock Collection as those are also some of my favourite games. Choices, choices, so many choices... 🤔
All pro football 2K8, Battlefield 2042, Microsoft flight simulator
Hmm....
MLB The Show
Persona 5
Spelunky 2
Resident evil 4 remake
Starfield
Fortnite
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Fallout: New Vegas
Planet Coaster
@aria10000 awesome question imo ✌️
Xbox specific (though these are/would be on PC too of course) would be:
Microsoft Flight Simulator
Halo MCC
Gears Collection (when is this coming?!)
Farming Simulator, Flight Simulator, Sea of Thieves - by land, air, or sea!
This is actually a really tough question to answer. If I had to only play 3 games, finite games with a beginning, middle and end would ultimately become tiresome, even if they are as legendary as Mass Effect or Final Fantasy. You would have maybe 2 months of excitement tops. Replaying them every year or so. So it would have to be;
The Master Chief collection (I wish bots were a thing).
Cities Skylines
Minecraft
You get a certain level of agency and customisation to alter the games mechanics, so they could last some time.
Civilization VI
Persona 5
No Man's Sky
"if you had to limit yourself to just 3 Xbox games"
This is just paid market research for Xbox Game Pass Standard isn't it? 😂
That's a tough question to answer. I'd have to go with some sort of football game - either FIFA or Football Manager
A racing game - Forza or one of the Dirt games
And maybe The division 2.
Halo MCC, Gears of War 3, Left 4 Dead 2
The holy trinity:
Oh wait, wrong forum!
Although: You can emulate still on an xbox series S, right?
In that case: Lufia II: Rise of the Sinestrals. i’ll hide it somewhere in the roms folder and nobody will notice I’ll bring a 4th game.
-Pacman Championship Edition Dx+
-Elden Ring
-Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Sure I can't take a Switch to this island? It's far better on power consumption.
/ducks rocks being thrown
Halo MCC, Fallout and Starfield.
Would have to think variety, longevity and exploration, and I think I have the perfect three.
Forza Horizon 5.
Starfield.
Assassins creed vanhalla.
Master chief collection
Civ 6 + expansions
Rocket League,
This goes against my nature though, since I have game pass so I can try a new short game every week. I love finding a new game that really clicks for me that I never would have bought if I couldn't try it for free first.
Halo 3
Mirror’s Edge
Skyrim
Shenmue 2
Outcast: A New Beginning
GTA 4
I’ve actually only played the demo of A New Beginning, but I loved Second Contact and I think it would be good to have a fresh game in the mix.
Halo MCC
State of Decay 2
Monster Hunter World
Stafield, Halo Infinite, Gears of War 2
Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 are two easy picks for me. I thought Halo Infinite had the best campaign since 3 and ODST, plus it’s probably my favorite modern online shooter. Horizon 5 is probably my favorite racing game to this point outside of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The visuals and variety in it are unmatched.
As for the third game… probably Rise of the Tomb Raider. It’s one of my favorite non-Nintendo single player games. It’s fun to 100% and also restart at any moments notice.
Forza Horizon 2, 3 and 4.
Forza horizon 5, starfield, mcc. Honorable mention: Forza horizon 4, perfect dark
I’d probably try and maximise my games with
Morrowind game of the year edition Starfield and maybe one of the first two fables
Got to be
Me 3 most played games are Gears, Halo and Starfield so that. Though I might switch Halo for Forza.
Halo MCC
Skyrim
Age of Wonders 4
Forza Horizon 4
Elden Ring
Microsoft Flight Simulator
Why, is this another new Game Pass tier?
AOE2 for all time longevity
FFXIV for a GaaS, even though I havent played it since it launched on PC. Need something that is going to consistently update if you're stuck with 3 games.
Torn on the 3rd game, a few come to mind. I would need to be stuck on a desert island to play through all the mythic paths in Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous.
1. Mass Effect: Andromeda
2. Starfield
3. Life Is Strange 2
@Ryu_Niiyama it's happens to me too. None of my friends are playing VF. If you want me to add you let me know!
1. Middle Earth: Shadow of War
2. The Division 2
3. Diablo 4
Tetris Effect
Dark Souls Remastered or trilogy if possible
Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown with all DLC
Hello there fellow gamers.
That is a though question. Only three Xbox games Huh?
Okay. i think I got it:
Might just be my ultimate open world action rpg to have.
Although, has I´m currently playing AC Odissey, that one is another really good contender, alongside AC Valhalla.
Yeah, very difficult to only chose three. Should have been six at the very least 😜
Cheers everyone and happy gaming
Always a hard question for me. Then again a portable then a Xbox with magic solar panels I'd bring along to power it on a desert island.
To me OG Xbox/360 are more my go to platforms for games but as not explored them enough makes it tough (well 360 the most explored but even still not enough of what it offered in the more second party games way but have enough general 1st and 3rd party offerings that were big).
Xbox One it would be Sunset Overdrive, ReCore and hmm not sure. I didn't like Forza Motorsport 5-7 really that then and they are a core genre/series I keep the Xbox One around like the others. Maybe Rare Replay as a compilation I guess and if I feel like any eras to play of its 30 games not just the obvious N64+ era stuff many people get it for. Valkyria Chronicles 4 my only no update required only install Xbox One game so for not updates on a desert island that would be fine to me to bring. Probably others exist it's just the only one I have of that kind without a required update.
Minecraft or any sandbox or many paths game for story or many random generated dungeon generators in other games (so if had to pick a tactics game the random ones in Disgaea).
OG Xbox or 360 I'd say Forza or PGR or Sega GT (not played but want to), Blinx, Kingdom Under Fire maybe. I'd want a puzzle game but most of them are PSP or PS1 my favourites there unless puzzles inside other games of course.
Wasn't a mention of 'just 1 console right?' or gamepass games or other factors right?
Limitations of a service to narrow things down to key games want on them hmm for sure of research from audiences hmm.
I enjoy rally but I'm not sure which one. WRC, Onrush, Dirt, Gravel, too many to choose from.
Something like Blur or Geometry Wars are nice but not sure. Halo for Forge maps/modes of course makes sense.
Puzzles, adventure, trying to think what in some I could narrow it down to. Pretty hard the more games I get and go hmm, as I don't make lists of things as I just enjoy what I do then putting a top 10, or a top 3 with more value then others.
Red Dead Redemption 2
eFootball PES 2021
Mortal Kombat 11
Titanfall 2, Fh5, Elden ring
RockBand 4
MLB the Show
Dead Island
Planet Coaster, Forza Horizon 5 and if any RPG so Starfield
Planet coaster, endless dungeon and top spin 2k25
Starfield, FH5, and a third that needs more consideration before choosing.
Forza 4, Forza 5, Halo 2.
All the above are the games I've had most enjoyment with that I would consider 'xbox' games. I was hoping Starfield or Forza MS might have joined that list, but both disappointed me and I've not enjoyed anything else on the system yet.
Of course there's plenty of 3rd party titles you can play on an Xbox that would be high on my list, but I don't consider them to be 'xbox games'.
Yakuza 0, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Taiko no Tatsujin.
High Fi Rush.
Halo Infinite.
Gears of War 3.
Senua saga2, Sea of stars and hades 2 when it comes out. I've been playing diablo 4 but i'm struggling to finish it (main story became too boring, sidequests feel the same).
The fact that I struggled to think of three games on gamepass that I would buy is the reason I'm strongly against renewing it when it runs out in about an year.
This year I already cancelled netflix and disney+ because of all the increases in price and the fact that I'm seeing a lot of old shows showing up as "new content" and gamepass will likely be next. I also still pay for HBO (or max or whatever you want to call it) but the reason I'm still on it is because they kept their prices ok where I live while still honouring their old contract (i still have 4k in the standard subscription). If that wasn't the case then I would have cancelled it as well.
I'd go with Halo 3, Super Street Fighter IV and Gears of War Ultimate Edition.
Guess I should list the games with the most hours
-Skyrim
-Stardew Valley
-Ark
Halo 2, Elden Ring and Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion. I'd swap Halo 2 for the Master Chief Collection if we are allowing compilations.
MX vs ATV legends, Red Dead Redemption 2 & GTA V expanded and enhanced edition.
If I was allowed a top 5 I'd keep the same 3 as above but add Starfield & Diablo 4. This collection of games would keep me content on an island for sure.
RDR2 alone is a staggering accomplishment in world design, gameplay & storytelling. Truly one of the BEST games of the entire Xbox One /PS4 generation. I've done one playthrough back in 2021 on PS5 and now I'm currently on my second playthrough this time on XSX (it's absolutely brilliant, it looks and plays so well on Series X way better than it does on PS5 mainly due to the broken HDR on PS5 and the upscaled checkerboard upscaled 4K (PS4 pro version) compared to Series X that runs the game with a native resolution at 4K resolution at 30fps with no HDR issues. I'm absolutely amazed RDR2 hasn't been patched or remastered for Series X. It's such an amazing game that it deserves more love than it's gotten. Although we know Rockstar was working on a remaster for current gen it was shelved in order to "put all hands on deck" for GTA VI. I'm hoping after GTA VI is released we get a remaster it even an expanded and enhanced edition lol!
Diablo 4 is another game I have fallen in love with, I didn't know if I was going to like it very much but man was I wrong. I'm so glad it came with my Series X lol the replayability with that game is great & if you add on online functionality then you have endless fun.
GTA V is the best selling game of the last 15 years. It's remarkable to think about honestly, I beat the game when it first release on PS360, then I beat two more times on PS4 & now I've replayed the story twice with the expanded and enhanced edition. Once on PS5 and Once on Series S. I am planning on another playthrough at the end of this year this time on my Xbox Series X lol it's a game I enjoy playing and beating about once every 18 months or so. Every time I play I discover something I had never seen before and it really is incredible to think GTA V was developed on PS360 consoles. Just imagine what GTA V could've been had they had the power of the Series S back then yet alone XSX/PS5 lol it's incredible to think about the impact that game has had. GTA VI will be on another level when it's released simply because it will be made from the ground up with current gen in mind. Sorry got carried away lol.
Starfield is another game I was on the fence about until I actually sat down and sank time into it. Now 170 hours later I have traveled the galaxy and beyond. The game has been so much better since the release of the 60fps patch on Series X then I have begun my NG+ playthrough although I'm on a break to enjoy some other games but I will absolutely be back especially once shattered space DLC hits.
TLDR Xbox has some brilliant games I'd enjoy being stuck on an island with, happy gaming ✌️
