The rumours were true! Xbox and Ninja Theory treated us to a fresh look at Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 as part of The Game Awards 2021, and it's looking every bit as incredible as we'd hoped. No release date yet, though.
"Debuted at The Game Awards 2021, watch the Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II gameplay reveal. Coming exclusively to Xbox and Windows PC from Ninja Theory. Captured in-game by the development team."

OMG this looked awesome! I was totally shocked it was gameplay. The only give away that it was real-time was a few hitches here and there - something totally fixable by release.
Well done Ninja Theory!
Wow. Not very often we see leaps in graphics of this magnitude. One to watch for sure. Can’t wait to see more.
Visually looked unreal. Or should I say it looked real? Super impressive. Can only hope the game will look this good
Looks amazing but expected no less after the first one. Shame no release date, was hoping for a cheeky late 2022 but more realistically 2023 now.
I thought it was CGI until Geof said it was gameplay. This at another level.
Game looked amazing..
Go Senua! My most anticipated game this gen 😍 Games have surpassed films as a source of entertainment so bad it's not even funny anymore.
This looks unbelievably good but i wish they show a bit of ingame UI. If someone said it's a prerendered CGI with very controlled third person cinematography i would have believe it.
This looks better than I even imagined. What a horrifying boss monster.
Really hope they don't ruin the message and themes of the first game by going big and "AAA". That said it looks fantastic.
The game looks beyond real, that's for sure, but...
We have to talk about Melina Juergens's incredible performance, here !
This woman got cast by accident, for f... sake ! She was a humble video editor, working at Ninja Theory, who just accepted to fill the part until they find a real actress.
And the team was so stuned by her performance that they asked to keep her at the main character.
It's incredible. Her story, her performance, everything.
She was extraordinary in the first one, and she gave me chills in this trailer.
I'm so desperate to play this game, IT IS THE ONE that makes me decide for a Series X instead of a Playstation. And I'm saying that as a lover of PS's narrative IPs.
But this game, fellows.. I just could not pass this game.
I feel like im in the minority but I really didn’t enjoy the first game, I finished it but didn’t find it very enjoyable, found it quite annoying actually.
This looks phenomenal though, I love me some good visuals and this definitely delivers on that front. It’ll be on Gamepass day one whenever it’s released so I’ll try it.
@Fenbops No, I tried to get into it but the gameplay was too slow and plodding for me so never finished. Will attempt again before this is released (I have time)
Game looks great. But that wasn't 'gameplay'. I have no doubt it will continue to look like this though as it's going to be a very linear controlled game. I am digging the more mature god of war tone to it though with the giant...hope the rest of the game throws things like giants at us.
Jaw dropping. Ninja have most certainly raised the bar graphics wise. Amazing!!!!
Wow, that’s some lord of the rings( the early 00s movies) level graphics! Awesome, I look forward to play it when it’s ready
Game pass convinced me to purchase a xbox one x and hellblade was the first game I downloaded. It was experience like I've never had playing a game before and the audio alone, is spectacular. I enjoyed the combat but the journey throughout the game, was mind blowing.
2 years ago, we saw the reveal of the second game and the series x. I knew the system I was going to pick up and hellblade 2 has been my most anticipated game since. The trailer they showed at the game awards last night, was remarkable and couldn't believe what I was watching. Ninja theory have put in some work into this sequel and have to thank Xbox studios for putting fate in them. If the game doesn't release till 2023, so be it. I believe in this studio and can't wait to be blown away again.
Looks really great! People always talk about the Bethesda purchase but Ninja Theory is the most appealing new Microsoft studio to me. Have yet to be dissatisfied with any of their previous games.
To be honest, it looked very much like that CGi reveal, that 'quality' that gave us our 'first' impression of what to expect from the 'next' gen Xbox hardware.
Since then though, expectations have been somewhat tempered by numerous titles, their 'disappointing' visual/performance metrics and over-use of CGi 'in-engine' trailers that look far above the quality of the 'Game-play' worlds we get at launch.
Halo: Infinite is a good example - the Slipstream in-engine reveal in 2018 looked incredible but the Final game release is not on that level at all.
This 'game-play' trailer looks incredible, like the initial reveal...
No date? Gameplay looked good but I was not a fan of the gameplay/combat in the first. Hopefully they have added more nuance in.
@Korgon Same here. The Bethesda deal was all well and good for several reasons, but I've always been more intrigued by the Ninja Theory and Obsidian acquisitions. Both developers have made some really good games, and now they have more money to work with. The PlayStation Studios stable of developers rightfully get a lot of praise, and I believe Ninja Theory and Obsidian can both reach those levels too. Hellblade 2 seems to be shaping up to be a prime example.
@BAMozzy I think Halo looks really great, but NOT in its cutscenes. And I can't understand why. Seriously.
Even the soldier's wife, in the hologram he's holding, at the very beginning, is a joke compared to the first trailer. Like... in the trailer, she really looked like an actual person, here she's... a joke, I don't know.
And what's driving me crazy is that the game actually looks better than it's cutscene counterpart. It's crazy.
@Bobobiwan Yes, the cutscenes leave a lot to be desired. The whole one-shot moving camera effect is also not utilized as well as in God of War or even this Hellblade trailer. But those ghost projections with chief or Cortana in the air, during the gameplay, are beautiful.
Finally watched the trailer yesterday and my opinion on the game has not changed since the debut trailer... This will be the game that is able to compete with anything from PlayStation. Their games are usually very high quality and a lot of them are 3rd person cinematic games, and this continues to look like it will be able to stand right next to them no problem.
That is obviously meant to be high praise. Basically, my expectations for this have been extremely high and will continue to be after this absolutely gorgeous footage. This is also one of the cases where, although obviously this is my most anticipated Xbox game, I'll happily wait so those expectations can be met.
@Bobobiwan The Cutscenes are not the best - the human faces really do look 'odd'. The main game isn't quite so bad because its 'look' is very 'gamey' and that's OK when you are playing a 'Game' but you want the Cutscenes to look more 'real' for that cinematic experience - especially as they seem to be trying for believable Human characters.
Compared to the 'realism' of the 2018 'in-engine' reveal, the final release is disappointing but doesn't matter 'too' much when you are playing - it looks Gamey and that's OK.
But compared to the 'realism' and character models of games like RDR2, Death Stranding, Hellblade 2 etc, it doesn't compare.
Everyone said it, wow, just wow, + exciting until the end. I loved the first game but this is on another level. Can’t wait! Still some people can be negative. The overall look was awesome!
@BAMozzy You've just said everything, pal !
Still, I'm enjoying the game very much, and I guess, in the end, that's all that matters !
This looks incredible!! I’m a big Playstation exclusive fan an this looks up there with the best of them!! Lets hope!! 🙏 🙏
