![Talking Point: Are You Looking Forward To The New Forza Motorsport This Year?](https://images.purexbox.com/74f28f40fad25/talking-point-are-you-looking-forward-to-the-new-forza-motorsport-this-year.900x.jpg)
Over the last couple of days, our racing game focus has been squarely on Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown with Nacon finally unveiling official gameplay, but don't forget there is another huge Xbox racer in the pipeline! Forza Motorsport makes its grand return on Xbox Series X|S later this year, and we want to gauge how excited the PX community is about this one roughly three months out from launch.
At the moment, any hype surrounding the new Forza title feels weirdly restrained. It'll have been six whole years since we last saw a track-based Forza by the time the new one launches, and to be honest, we just expected to see a wee bit more excitement about it this close to launch.
Of course, there's a rather large spaceship-shaped blockbuster coming sooner than Forza in the form of Starfield, and Bethesda's new RPG seems to be scooping up any Xbox-flavoured air right now like a giant otherworldly vacuum. We'll expect the focus to shift more towards Turn 10's racer shortly after Starfield's September 6th launch, but still, you'd think the first FM game in a long, long time would still be getting decent attention from Xbox fans.
We did get treated to a deeper look at the title recently as well. The team showcased a lengthy gameplay demo right after this summer's Xbox Games Showcase, and while we'd still like to see more raw, uncut gameplay, we definitely know the direction Turn 10 is taking with Forza at this point.
So, how are you feeling about the new Forza Motorsport as things stand? Do you want to see more gameplay too, or maybe even a playable demo to see how the physics have changed since Forza 7? We know it's been a busy year with lots of news on Starfield and the ongoing Activision Blizzard deal, but, should we be showing Forza some more love?
Vote in the poll down below and let us know how you're feeling about Forza Motorsport in the comments section!
How Excited Are You For Forza Motorsport? (652 votes)
- Super hyped - it's been ages since we've had a new Forza Motorsport!
- I'm looking forward to it, but I want to see more
- Eh, I'm not that excited to be honest - I expected to be more hyped!
- I'm not bothered this year, all my focus is on Starfield/other 2023 titles
- I don't like the FM series, so I'm not fussed at all

I’m looking forward to it, I prefer track racers to open world FH.
But it’s been hard to get ‘hyped’ for something that kept getting pushed back.
(Plus I don’t think I really get ‘hyped’ for anything till I can actually play/use it)
Prefer the Horizon games but I'll give it a try when it comes out.
Absolutely mega hyped. Been so long since FM7! GT 7 was a return to form for that series but there's definitely room for improvement and I fully expect FM8 to do so! After what feels like forever it's great to have the Forza/GT main racing series back again!
Probably more hyped for Forza Motorsport than Starfield in honesty.
I'll give the game a go but the type of game isn't my jam really. Currently the climax of ABK is just killing anything else in gaming it seems and then starfield is stealing the show after that. I hope they do some marketing push for the game and I'm sure it will be a hit in the sim racer crowd....but definitely not a game for casuals.
They definitely need to keep making great games for select fans vs trying to get mass appeal on everything so I'm hoping the sim racers are pumped.
I thought we'd see a lot more of this in the last showcase, but what we saw seemed strangely underwhelming? Im sure the game wont be as they have not delivered a dud yet, but I'd wish for more than 20 tracks if I could.
Without a wheel, i like gyro steering on a more serious game like this, so I was a little down on it at first, but since I got a xim. Nexus for xbox im all set up and waiting patiently for this to drop...
Really like FH but not much into the sim type racer. Probably give it a try on GamePass just to see though.
I will definitely play it day one on GP. And yeah, I feel like Redfall had way bigger hype than FM
@swagbag7 Too often? The last one was 2017. I think your confused.
I like the Forza Motorsport games, but they're not something I get hyped over. They're the sort of games that I install, keep installed and chip away at until the next one comes out. Knock out a few races in an evening then go play something else.
I was really hyped for it but it has been dampened by their gameplay showing recently. Whilst I think the Car-PG thing might have a little more legs in terms of progression than GT7 does, graphically the game looks a step down from GT7 and that's a little disappointing considering the game has been in the oven 18 months longer than gt7 has been. Also I need to try out fleshes out the driving mechanics are as I'm also not sold on what's been shown or there lack of.
The always online kills it for me.
I can count on two hands the number of hours I've played Forza online. Ans I've been playing since the OG in 2005.
Even had the multi screen setup with multiple Xbox for Forza 2.
But between the fatigue of the of yearly releases for nearly a decade kind of diluted most of the hype of these. Always online is just the nail in the coffin for me.
And the worst part is, while I have Horizon 5, it doesn't even properly support wheels properly in that things like tachs dont work.
Hell yeah! Attention is a bit low because it releases a month after Starfield, but this game seems to be everything I’m looking for in a sim racer since GT7 didn’t deliver single player wise.
I’m saving all my energy for Starfield… there is only so much hype in my body - nothing to spare…
Absolutely! It's been my most anticipated Xbox game since FH5. Can't wait to get lost in the tuning and collecting
Generally not the biggest racing fan. I'll try it out for a bit probably thanks to gamepass of course. But I'm more hyped for starfield, baldurs gate 3, like a dragon gaiden and persona 5 tactica tbh. Those are the game I'll absolutely play day 1 and will spend a ton of time on.
Not anymore, the live services announcement killed my enthusiasm. I was going to buy the version with the DLC, but now I won't even bother spending a penny on it. I'll just stick to it strictly as a free GamePass title because there is absolutely no reason to purchase it, it's not like I will ever actually own the game even if I do.
@swagbag7 Motorsport is a completely different animal to Horizon. They are not comparable and usually appeal to different demographics. For those of us who have wanted a more sim like proper track racing experience on xbox, its been a 6 year wait.
My curiosity is around the tech used to create the game more than the game itself. Wondering if it's going to use true next gen features promised at launch for the Series consoles like Direct Storage and other Velocity Architecture goodies. I'm personally more of a Horizon player because I enjoy the open world. I'm definitely going to give it a try while I still have Game Pass.
I think hype is subdued because this has been one of the best years in gaming recently. Final Fantasy 16, Tears of the Kingdom, Street Fighter 6, Spider-Man 2, Mortal Kombat 1, Starfield, Resident Evil 4, etc..
Racing games are always niche, especially sim ones (and I say that as a fan). It’s probably hard to stand out in this year’s slate of GotY contenders.
After a massive Forza Horizon intoxication, players are more than ready for the best racing simulator in the market!
Honestly think people are meh with forza motorsport, simply because at the start of every single race getting rammed of the road is very annoying and frustrating.
Forza Motorsport is really ok. I prefer Horizon, but that’s really ok too. Like others in here have said, Motorsport doesn’t look quite as good as GT7. But what do I know? I’ll probably play the game for 3-5 hours total and have fun in that time.
Having Xbox Games Showcase Extended clash with the big Forza Motorsport info drop (both events happened at the same time and Motorsport wasn't present at all in Xbox Games Showcase Extended) felt counter-intuitive. It honestly gives the impression Microsoft are expecting Motorsport to go the way of Halo Infinite.
I’m looking forward to this but for me, it’s just one step closer to the next iteration of Horizon.
I would've been more excited, but the lack of qualifying is a massive downer. I don't understand how they can't implement something in a motorsport game that is very much a big part of motorsport. GT4 did it on the PS2, Project Cars 1 & 2 do it on Xbox/PS too so it's all puzzling - especially how "everything is built from the ground up" on this entry
They milked this franchise into the ground, too many games in too short a timescale and it was really outshine by Forza Horizon too. I am hoping that the larger gap between games and the jump to a new gen may help to rejuvenate the franchise... I am sceptical, but changes are required.
I’ll wait and see. I’m currently playing pgr on my original Xbox. I actually thought I was sick of racing games till I played this again and realised it was just modern racers I didn’t enjoy 🤷🏻♂️
I am. But if it’s not 4k 60fps with ray tracing on series X I’m going to join the backlash against it - they’ve dug a hole for themselves
I can't wait! I played a bunch of Forza Motorsport 5 earlier this year. Fun refresh.
@Lavalera
A man of culture.
I'm pretty excited for it. Loved forza 3 and 4 on the 360... My main issue is how they decide to monetise it. I despise dlc car packs, esp as there's usually a car that outshines everything else in racing games
Looking forward to playing it but would like to see more about how we build the cars up, engine upgrade etc, it's a new way of doing it compared to other FM so please show more.
I can't wait for the new Forza Motorsport! I love racing games, I own Xbox consoles for the Forza games both Motorsport & Horizon & the Halo games. I'm not into open world games such as Starfield.
@EvenStephen7 I'm not sure I would consider Forza Horizon 4 and 5 as niche
This is the game i bought the series x for. I still feel like the series hit its high point in Forza 3 and 4 on the 360. I really hope this is actually good. I was really excited about Gran Turismo 7 but even that was a let down. We will see.
No, not looking as good as GT 7 which also has VR (which is kind of cheating really, cant beat that) but might give FM a swirl anyway since its on GP
Online required no they made me care less.
Advertising was hiding so much, so much graphics and sound focus or bits of customisation mentioned but not shown, I didn't see the extended so I'm kind of confused what the game adds and the major one barely showed upgrades so I started to loose interest with that. I may check the extended as it will clear things up but I still don't know.
The career structure, I haven't looked further but I am not sure.
If it had varied event types I'm curious about. Old or new types.
RPG progression. Never liked any in racing games of PS3/360+ era and preferred Alfa Romeo Racing Italano/Corvette Evolution GT RPG point systems in actual stats for the car/player.
Not into modern RPG progression systems in racing games. They just felt too restrictive or less fun then car rewards deciding what I do next. Not a bar to fill.
No more level restrictions I hope.
The pit or whatever position thing feature is cool but enough for me to care about a whole game no. It is though so far the only thing really attracting me to Forza Motorsport 8 right now.
Even the new tracks I mean eh. Maple Valley back for licensing wow great but otherwise eh.
No original tracks annoys me still all licensed sigh. But we haven't had any in years so not surprised.
I've tried with Forza Motorsport 5-7 and 5 was fine, 7 was good enough and 6 gave me GT7 issues just not as bad.
I want 8 to be good but it has struggled to get me interested and I really want it to.
Otherwise bike and a handful of other racing games do the job right now in wait for it.
I don't take the marketing seriously many games haven't appealed and GT7 was so disappointing with so many lies of nostalgia which I ignore that type of marketing but they made the game even more tedious then past games which I mean did they learn what players like at all?
So with marketing hard to tell I'm just confused what the game offers.
Been discovering a bunch in the retro and modern space car and bike just the notable car racing games haven't really done it for me.
@x3King84 I do it's just many haven't really appealed to me much. I'm exploring bike games now (Ride 2&3, Motorcycle Club, RIMS, SBK08) so I have been many car racing games these past few months/year now on all platforms old and new.
I have others like Grid Legends, Gravel, Onrush. For modern ones but most of the time sixth gen racing games more. GTI club on PSP. Burnout 1&3 on PS2. Researching so many niche ones from Japan like Advan Racing or Next Magazine Toyota for PS1 games.
Forza Motorsport 8 seems alright but it's going many directions not really into. Or I'm so confused on what it actually offers a bit of both really.
@x3King84 Instead of it being more street/supercars like a GT/Forza/NFS and so on it's more race cars (still varied types of compact, sports, super classes but their racing versions/models) at least for Legends it is from what I remember than past Grid games.
There is a damage model always had in the series.
The events vary from race, drift or time trial. Some city, some circuits. Some point to point. As I'm not into open world racers I focus on circuit ones (sim or arcade) mostly or any on highways (Gear Club Unlimited) or street ones closed off (Need For Speed ProStreet, Nitro, Underground Rivals, Blur, Project Gotham Racing among others).
But Burnout Paradise Remastered was fine, The Crew, Forza Horizon, Test Drive Unlimited and NFS Unbound I assume are ok. Besides past entries in said series before their newest entries TDU, The Crew come out.
I found the event generator while basic suitable for getting trophies/achievements, upgrading the car which you may or may not need to do to beat events (or unlock events which I was not a fan of the stage 2 upgrades roadblock it was tedious not going to deny that) along a basic skill tree.
You can upgrade the car/your team but I never felt that upgrade system did much no matter the lowest to 30% so I filled it in, got no trophy and did the rest. XD
The upgrades of the car you need to get past event roadblocks.
The cars a bit of sim a bit of arcade so not as realistic as GT/Forza but still enjoyable to drive, much better than Grid 2019 was which was a major issue I had with that game the driving was awkward.
You have a career and a story mode (cutscenes, tutorial, a few changes up happen), I never checked the DLC or multiplayer they aren't my thing and I think most people gave up on the multiplayer which is sad.
The game is probably comparable to R Racing Evolution the Ridge Racer spinoff, has a story mode to introduce tracks and cars but and has cutscenes to tell a racing team story journey, then has the career to do a bunch of event types for the rest of the singleplayer offering.
The story mode is pretty alright it does the job for explaining things of the gameplay, a fair dramatic racing team story line with people cheating, what it's like to race without your team mate (didn't really change much towards doing races really at least not compared to other Grid entries with the team races).
It's a good enough time I felt the cutscenes were well done, would I say it's better than TOCA1's story no but for a modern racing movie kind of cutscenes it's good enough just not as good as say the Ford movie that was excellent regardless of being a focus on the car brand.
The career goes between different types of race cars but they still vary like your GT/Forza of compact, sports, super and more just race car versions of them instead.
Past Grid games offered Touge aka Japanese mountain highclimb drifting (miss this feature in Grid 2008) as well as more appealing sports/race cars from what I remember.
It takes from Grid or TOCA if you've ever heard of or played those on PS1 or PS2/Xbox/PC back in the day.
That's as far as I remember at least.
Compared to Project Cars 3 which has the issues I had with Need For Speed Shift 2 somewhat again. I haven't played Assetto Corsa or iRacing or others. Grid Legends isn't the best racing game I've played but for modern gen ones it's the one I found myself wanting to beat and did Platinum it, it has it's awkward moments or tedious bits but I still had a lot of fun with it.
I never end up beating most if not all racing games I own even GT/Forza I come back to them and get close to around I think 80-90% but some events are too tough for me or I'm good enough leaving them there.
I am more so focusing on Wreckfest (non-licensed cars, even sofas, lawnmowers, arcadey but still weighty/heavy) it's like Flatout, currently or Ride 2 & 3 (street/racing bikes) for modern platform racing games at the moment in-between non-racing games on a number of old and new consoles.
That or Burnout 1 & 3 on the old arcade racer side.
Very much so.
Put off picking up Motorsport 7 the last couple of years in anticipation of the first release on the latest hardware.
