Following a busy February for Xbox with the release of Avowed, March is looking a little quieter for the team, with no major first-party releases currently set to launch this month. However, Compulsion Games' South of Midnight is coming in April - and we want to know if you're excited for the next big release from Microsoft.
As you probably saw, we wrote up an extensive preview of the team's follow-up to We Happy Few last month, and came away mightily impressed by what we played. The jury's still out on the full version of South of Midnight for sure, but our overall thoughts from just a chunk of the game have us incredibly excited for the full release over here at PX HQ.
The team's take on a Southern folklore-inspired adventure feels really unique in the gaming space right now - we can't quite remember the last time we explored a world like this on Xbox! It definitely stands on its own within the Microsoft portfolio as well, and we're very curious to see how it lands with the wider player base next month.
Plenty of other critics also covered last month's South of Midnight preview; a roundup of which we'll throw down below so that you can get even more of a flavour of what to expect with this upcoming Xbox title. Beyond that, it's just the slow, agonising wait until April 8th for the Xbox Game Pass release (or April 3rd if you're opting for early access)!
On a scale of 1-10 (10 being super-excited), how hyped are you for South of Midnight? Give us a rating in the poll below.
Feel free to tell us why down in the comments!

As a game pass experience I'm happy enough to experience this for its unique art style alone.
I suspect the actual gameplay to be a little poor, so my excitement has reservations, but maybe it will suprise me.
I'm actually keen to check it out. I love that we can toggle off the option for (was it called?) stop motion. It looks very unique and certainly looks like it plays well.
Excited about both south of midnight and expedition 33. And i have not even beat Indy and Avowed yet.
I gave an 8 so I'm looking forward to it hopefully it lives up to expectations I'm glad you can turn of the stop motion effect while in gameplay I wouldn't of been able to play the game otherwise!
@Millionski Haven't played avowed yet and I might not but Indiana Jones is a great game not challenging at all but looks amazing with a great story and the gameplay is good definitely worth a go for nothing if your on Gamepass!
I gave it a 7 and only because my backlog is so big that any release tempers my excitement… again more a reflection of me…
It looks really interesting and I'm very much up for something new.
However that is always a gamble and much will depend on reviews for me. But fingers crossed it turns out great.
4/10. I'm cautiously optimistic for this one. I like the look and atmosphere of the trailers but the gameplay doesn't look like something I will love. I can't wait to try it for myself on gamepass though.
South of Midnight is honestly the best looking first party game to come to Xbox since Halo Infinite for me. I gave it a 9/10. I’m more excited for South of Midnight than I am for Doom and I’m really looking forward to Doom.
I’m hoping it plays a little bit like Kena, but with a better story.
Went with an 8, will try on GPU of course.
Then I said that about Indy and Avowed and they both great games for me, which I play.
I think Doom will be Xbox big star AAA this year , I can’t see id not making a great Doom.
Then of course hope the COD campaign will be as good as last years or better.
Not overly excited or hyped - Doesn't seem the kind of game I play and whilst I appreciate them trying to go for a Stop-motion art-style, it seems more stuttery/juddery than Wallace and Gromit and I find it very 'distracting'.
Game-play too doesn't seem the type of game-play I'd normally play, certainly wouldn't be a game I'd consider buying if I didn't have Game Pass Ultimate. At best, it seems like it would be a game I'd buy in a sale IF it reviewed well and/or was recommended by a trusted friend/family member. However, I do have GPU so I may 'try' it at some point in the future but unless something changes between now and release, its not on my 'play-list'.
I am excited for Atomfall and it's all I am really excited for atm
With regards to South of Midnight specifically I will take a look because I can thanks to gamepass. However, I am not sold on it right now nor do I have any other expectations for it.
I voted "10", but after thinking more, I think I'm more like a 7 or 8. I'm hopeful that this game plays well. I'm sold on the art style, world, and story. I currently subscribe to Ultimate Gamepass so I'll probably be checking it out day 1 or at least soon after release.
I'm still finishing Avowed (I think I'm past the point of no return, so I'm close) and after that I have Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii which is gonna be long.
And I wanted to clear some of my backlog! I can't like this!
Still haven't played Dynasty Warriors Origins nor Abyss and Assassin's Creed Shadows is this month.
Shadows is gonna eat all my free time so I want to at least finish one more game before that.
@Lup "Clear up some backlog" Good luck to ya.
I've finally gown around to Guardians OtG, great game. I am resolute in my determination to finally play that 15+stack of games sitting there in physical form, still in shrink wrap. Easier to hide the digital stuff for a bit
I have Gamepass and will definitely check it out. I liked Avowed very much so if this can be as much fun that would be cool. I guess I'll find out when it releases.
If it gets a physical, definitely
I don’t have gamepass anymore sadly, might resub to play this.
The quality of Xbox games is really up to par, last games like Call of Duty Black Ops 6 to Indiana Jones and Avowed. You can tell they take the time to fine-tune their games and don't hesitate to delay releases if they think the game isn't up to standard, which is a very good thing! I am very confident; the art direction looks really appealing. I'm looking forward to seeing more about the gameplay, but just the story and the art direction already seem great, and I have high hopes for the rest.
I'm cautiously optimistic. Reminds me a bit of Kena Bridge Of Spirits. I hope the combat is a bit more interesting than what they have shown.
I’m cautiously excited for this. It looks great but I hated We Happy Few. Of course they aren’t the same game, so I’ll be going in with an open mind.
One of the games I'm looking forward to most 😎 from the showcase this n clockwork revolution got my eye. Hope this turns out to be a sick game n with how last couple Xbox games have been it's looking up something different too🙂
Oh boy, Ben my lad, you better believe I'm hyped.
Id be more excited if i had the time to play it. I still havent gotten to avowed yet...
I think it looks great and i’ve been looking forward to it since that initial reveal.
However is it possible THPS3+4 drops before this? 😮
Edit: damn July 11th.
I’m not gonna get hyped til I see how it turned out.
I will be playing AC Shadows but I have South of midnight preloaded already.
I'm BEYOND excited for this game - looks great!!
I normally would never vote 1, but you had to put the words not interested at all next to it, and I'm really not interested at all.
