The big Xbox Game Pass release of this week has undoubtedly been Avowed, which means something like Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader has sadly gone under the radar a bit - but that certainly doesn't mean it's not worth playing!
In fact, this "classical RPG" received some pretty impressive reviews back at launch in 2023, reaching the high 70s in terms of its Metacritic average and racking up a "Very Positive" score on Steam based on over 20,000 user ratings.
Prior to its Xbox Game Pass launch, Rogue Trader also surpassed one million buys across all platforms:
Owlcat Games Studio Head in January 2025: "Reaching such a milestone in one year with our third game is a sign for us that we, as developers, are working in the right direction.Together with the fantastic team at Warhammer, we were able to create the СRPG of our dreams, one set in the grim dark future of the 41st millennium, and we will do our best to bring more stories to the endless universe of Warhammer 40,000."
So, with Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader now officially part of the Game Pass service for Ultimate, Standard and PC members, we're keen to see what you think of it so far! It's early days, but have you had a chance to try it yet?
Let us know your thoughts in the poll below, and please feel free to elaborate in the comments as well!

One of the best modern crpgs.
Narrative and storytelling fits the world of WH40k really well and the characters are top notch. Combat is fluid enough even if there are some OP skills in the early game.
But yeah. Absolutely great. A true steal for the Game Pass.
I haven't the stomach for tactical games. They're usually too hard for me lol.
Loved it when I played it at release. I don't think it shines quite as brightly as Owlcat's previous game Pathfinder WOTR which many consider the greatest CRPG of all time, but it's still terrific and I don't think I've ever played anything that nails the 40k universe like it. I learned a TON about 40k here. I thought I was going to like the strictly turn based combat more, but I found myself pining for WOTR's RTWP/turn based hybrid system. Owlcat writes incredible companions and Argenta is definitely in my all time pantheon. Pasqal, Abelard, and Heinrix are first rate as well and I'll never get tired of Abelard introducing me upon our arrival everywhere. My other small complaint vs WOTR is I went from having probably the most memorable romance plot I've ever played in a game by 1,000 miles (Galfrey in WOTR) to one which really didn't do it for me at all (Cassia).
I'm not sure how the difficulty is now, but when I played (on hard), Cassia was totally broken and trivialized a lot of encounters by herself. I'm sure there have been many balance patches since.
As a CRPG I'd give it an 8.5, and as a piece of 40k media I give it a flawless 10.
owlcats stuff is up there with some of the best CRPGs of all time. Other than larian there aren’t many who can compete.
@Jenkinss great summary which is appreciated.
I believe there have been two massive patches since launch, which balance some of the skills which were over powered at launch.
Have downloaded it but not played it yet - can’t tear myself away from Avowed! Will hopefully give it a go over the weekend.
@Kaloudz I'm generally the same, but there are a few outliers; namely, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Marvel's Midnight Suns, Mario + Rabbids (the first one) and Disgaea 3. For some reason those all really gelled with me.
It is probably the game I play once I finish Avowed.
Not for me. I have to give up on the genre. I tried multiple times multiple titles and it just isn't for me.
I already owned it on ps, but if you are into crpg I can not recommend this highly enough.
@Markatron84 I was going to try the Alien game that plays the same as this one, that got added to GP recently but the moment I see grid-based maps, it's game over for me lol. I might get round to playing that cover-shooter Alien game though, before the new Alien series releases in a month or so.
@Kaloudz if grid-based combat is what turns you off, I recommend Midnight Suns. Your movement is a lot more free than in most turn-based tactics games and there's not even a cover system.
@Markatron84 Thanks brother. I'll give that a looksie. Is that on GP?
@Kaloudz it isn't on Game Pass, but it does go dirt cheap on sale quite regularly. Although, I suppose if it's not a priority play for you, you should wait as it's bound to wind up on there at some point.
@Markatron84 Haha, I'm a cheap skate. I'll probably happily splash out a £5 for it if it hits sale so I'll deffo keep an eye out for it my man! Thanks!
@Timppis one review I read said there’s a lot of reading in this game - is this right?
@Nightcrawler71 There is MASSIVE amount of lore and dialogue if you wish. You can skip a lot of it but many of the puzzles and side things require reading and figuring things out from the texts.
I'd agree with the review on this one.
@Timppis good to know, thanks 👍
Its a fantastic game, full of love for the IP and well I already owned it from when it came out and started another playthough when the DLC came out.
Is a little janky on controller when trying to move pathing wise and also properly react to traps in the environment. Feels like they are patching it up though.
