It's been almost a week now since Harold Halibut made its debut on Xbox Game Pass back on April 16th, and ahead of release we were extremely intrigued by what this unique stop-motion adventure had to offer.
Here at Pure Xbox, we ended up giving Harold Halibut a "Great" 8/10 score in our review, praising it as a "heartfelt and handcrafted tale of human existence" that features "deeply funny writing guaranteed to put a smile on your face".
Nevertheless, we also acknowledged at the time that it wouldn't be for everyone, as it sometimes falls into the trap of slow pacing and repetitive gameplay. Ultimately, that was reflected in the game's Metacritic ratings for Xbox (78), PS5 (69) and PC (68), with some critics going as high as 10/10 and others dropping to as low as 5/10.
Harold Halibut is a divisive game, then. With that in mind, we're intrigued to see what you think about this new Game Pass title so far, and whether it's been grabbing your attention since it dropped on the service a week ago. Tell us below!
What Score Would You Give Harold Halibut So Far? (193 votes)

I really want to give this one a try, hopefully will get too it. My backlog grows much faster than I can clear it.
Great and unique art style and I liked the Sci-fi story. However, does get boring due to the lack of gameplay and just walking from one character to another. Found myself almost falling asleep in parts due to the glacial pace.
Overall I did like it and if they did another game in this style needs some gameplay like puzzles. It would also have benefited from having choices with consequences like Telltale games.
Sadly, I found it incredibly boring after 3.5hrs. I was looking forward to it after all the hype.
I had a friend show it to me, and the art style is exquisite… just a shame the actual “game” part of it isn’t all that interesting. I gave it a 6/10. Was considering resubbing to Gamepass before trying it to experience the game, but I’m glad I didn’t. Until Silksong then…
Only played for about an hour it is a slight bit boring I think a game like this needs good funny humor but it's all just a bit dry and Dull but I might go back at some point down the line
Not going to vote as I've only played it a bit yesterday, and it's only getting going so I can't comment overall. though I've liked what I've played so far with some interesting characters and a great setting. Looking forward to putting more time in this week.
Been watching my son play it the past few days and it's a really beautiful game. The art style is amazing. I am enjoying the story as well.
To me, it looked like it was a case of Style over Substance - All the effort going to create a great looking game with an impressive Artstyle but didn't bother to build a 'Game'.
A great story or great writing isn't enough on its own in a 'Game' for me, neither is Great artstyle or graphics. Its the Game-play that matters most to me. I've played enjoyable games where the story or writing is generic or even 'non-existent', but the Game-play is Solid and fun but don't finish games where the Story or Graphics are great, but the game-play is 'dull'.
I think I'd rather watch this as a CGI TV/Film than play it - if the Story is that good because the Game-play itself doesn't make me want to try it...
I've given a 5/10 at this point. I've started it, but only an hour or so into it, so I can't really pass judgement just yet
I am leaning more towards agreeing with what seems to be the general consensus though. It looks fantastic, but gameplay wise, it's boring.
Shame really, because I really want to love this game.
It’s a point and click adventure from the past. I like that type of game so I gave it a 8/10. Modern gamers want something more which I understand …
Fell asleep while "playing" , beautifull art style but boring story.

Kinda underrated. But maybe I’m the target audience. Seems like a bit of a throwback to 90s PC games.
