It's been a great few days for new additions on Xbox Game Pass, and the one that was getting a lot of attention during the early part of the week was Eternal Strands, which is the first ever release from developer Yellow Brick Games.
We've been playing it just like a lot of other Game Pass members recently, and we mentioned in our Eternal Strands preview that it feels "very single-player Monster Hunter-like" while also taking inspiration from the likes of Dragon Age.
"There's merit in Yellow Brick Games' single-player taking on monster hunting, and we're curious to see what the community thinks when Eternal Strands hits Xbox Game Pass this week."
So, now that it's been a few days, we're really keen to hear your thoughts on Eternal Strands so far. The reviews have been a bit all over the place, with the Metacritic sitting at a high of 77 (for Xbox) and a low of 69 (for PS5), so there are definitely lots of different opinions floating around amongst the critics out there.
But what about the millions of players on Xbox Game Pass? How is it faring with those people? We'd love to know your thoughts down in the poll below, and please feel free to elaborate in the comments as well!

Not sure why but this game is giving me “The Gunk” vibes. Am I enjoying … yes … Is it a great little AA gamepass game? Again yes
Played for a small while so far (Sniper Elite took me away but I plan to return as soon as I am done there) but what I played was pretty solid stuff. I love anything that has resource scavenging in it though, so I'm biased. Lol.
Tried and got bored of it soon enough as I'm not into MH, but I definitely recommend it to anyone with a passing interest in this as it's not often you see a debut game so polished and innovative, way more than any recent AAA game.
@AlwaysPlaying loved The Gunk. Thanks
It's pretty much meh/average. I uninstalled
@LonelyMuthaShutYo Of course you did.
Looks great but not enough enemy variety story is awful
I dunno with it. It’s polished I’ll give it that.
But it’s just a little i dunno, average? I just feel meh with it. A lot of running around early on with little actually going on.
Xbox One Game of the Year!
Takes a bit of time to get going but it’s a fun game once it does. Another win for GamePass for me!
Gorgeous visuals, I must say. I mean during the daytime, it's one of the prettiest games I've seen in a while, from an art direction point of view. The big monster slaying is also a lot of fun, but everything in between is very average and can get tedious. Too many systems in the game. Could have benifited from being a bit more streamlined. And losing 80% of your resources (that you've been collecting for the last hour) upon death must absolutely get in the bin.
I really tried. But this is very clearly AA and made to a price and the decent art design can't disguise combat that feels old clunky and unsatisfying and pretty poor story telling (although that's variable and some actors do a good job with their script)
I only played just over 4 hours, but I just didn't gel with any of it and uninstalled it last night. Shame, but thank god for Game Pass or I could have wasted money on this.
Good luck anyone who wants to try it, do give it a go as I watched reviews from several people who enjoyed it. They were are wrong though, it's a big miss....
I want to like it but it def feels clunky af in the combat dept. I also hate that I spent so much time collecting epic and rare items then died and only got to keep 3
Eternal strands has been a pleasant surprise for me. I wasn't expecting it to keep my attention but it's allowed me to step away from my role as Indiana Jones for enough time to enjoy it's clever strand magic weaving. The graphics are decent and I've been pleasantly surprised by the story. Overall after 3 hours in I'd say this is a solid 8/10 and just one more reason I'm genuinely happy with my subscription Xbox gamepass ultimate.
Personally the game didn't catch my attention right off the start and I didn't feel any need to keep playing. Not bad, not good just confusing and uninteresting, at least for me. If I am not impressed or interested in a game right away it hard to keep playing.
I'm late to the commenting party, but after 43 hours it's a great game in my books. Not the best game in the past decade but certainly better than most games in the last 5 years. All the game really needs is more inventory, and some polishing.
