What a week we've had on Xbox Game Pass! Following the arrival of the excellent South of Midnight a few days ago, we were treated to Blue Prince on the service yesterday, which happens to be one of the highest-rated games of 2025.
So, I'm personally very intrigued about this one - what do you think so far? Obviously avoid spoilers please, but we're keen to hear if it's living up to the hype - it's been mentioned as a Game of the Year contender on multiple occasions:
For those who aren't aware, Blue Prince is a puzzle game where it's your job to explore a 45-room mansion and discover the location of a hidden Room 46, and... that's about all I've discovered as I haven't had chance to play it yet!
Welcome to Mt. Holly, where every dawn unveils a new mystery. Navigate through shifting corridors and ever-changing chambers in this genre-defying strategy puzzle adventure. But will your unpredictable path lead you to the rumored Room 46?
So, for those who have been digging into this one already, what do you think of Blue Prince so far? Is it a game you'd recommend to other Xbox Game Pass members, or should they avoid it and play something else over the weekend?
Let us know how you're getting on with Blue Prince in the poll above and comments down below.

It obviously isn't. It's a nice puzzle game. Nothing less, nothing more.
Tried it but it's not for me. I like puzzle games but the roguelike/roguelite whatever aspect is what I really dislike. There are few roguelikes I like so yeah.
It’s had such glowing reviews from journalists/podcasts where I have a lot of overlap in interest. Hearing it mentioned alongside games like outer wilds lets me know it’s not for everyone - and that’s okay! As outer wilds is one of my absolute favourite games - im intrigued to see how it compares in terms of puzzles and emotional impact. I’m a few days in so far and looking forward to playing more.
It’s alight. A little weird but inventive and passes the time. I played it while waiting for South of Midnight to download and I don’t think I’ll go back to Blue Prince
I am not usually a fan of puzzle games but this game has generated enough of a buzz that I will give it a go eventually but I am in no real rush to dive in.
I haven't started South of Midnight yet and that has a higher priority for me.
Like others, South of Midnight is top priority for me right now. Then I need to go back and finish Avowed before Expedition 33 later this month.
I played for only about half an hour and then went back to South of Midnight. Maybe I'll try it again this weekend.
Not to be that guy, but I do have a feeling this won't be nearly as good as critics are saying. Felt the same about animal well and balatro last year. Both were duds for me unfortunately. I'll give it a shot since it's on GP at some point though.
Wow. You people have no taste.
Not got round to trying it myself, but I'm keen given the huge wave of acclaim it's received.
I hit day five and I’m loving it, so far. I don’t play a ton of puzzle games, but I’d say it’s my favorite since Portal 2 so far. With that said, it is absolutely not a game for everyone.
I only had my first session with it yesterday. I wasn't sure how I felt it about it after I stopped, but I found myself thinking and even dreaming about it last night, so it's certainly left it's mark!
@Titntin
Didn't you throw a bit of a wobbly when Push Square scored Blue Prince a 7/10?
Yes you did, and I quote: "Push just rated it a 7.... Just to show how out of touch their reviewers are.."
Burt now you've played it for yourself you're not sure about it? Perhaps PS were actually right after all...
@NishimuraX I certainly criticised what I thought was a poor review.
After it had got in my mind last night, as I previously mentioned, I've played it all morning, last run 40 rooms.
It's a fantastic slow grower with some sublime design choices and a game that gets under your skin. You need to play it a while to see if you 'get it', and now I have, I love it and would definitely lean far more towards the 'glowing' reviews.
I would still entirely disagree with the push square assessment, but thanks for your interest! 😉
PS. I played this this morning instead of continuing with South of Midnight or AC shadows, both of which I'm absolutely loving. I think that's a pretty clear indicator of how the game grabbed me 😄
IV only played a quick run but it's deffo a top tier game. Not even my style of game tbh but think IL do a run a day or sumat lol. Probs is goty quality but reckon it's about niche. Id compare it to pentiment (didn't play it as not my kinda game) but got great reviews and everyone said was great but was very niche
I’ve played a few days on it and unlocked a few things but I do not see the point of the game. I cannot understand how you progress. 90% of the time all the rooms dealt are the same and give nothing in return
The reviewers who reviewed this must be die hard puzzle fans as there is no way this is a game of the year contender.
