These days, crossplay support is more prevalent than ever in our favourite multiplayer titles, and we have Xbox to thank for a lot of that - Phil Spencer and his team were heavily pushing the feature for years before it become commonplace.
For a while, we tended to think of crossplay as something that you opted into - a tool to play with our friends over at Push Square and Nintendo Life, for example - but these days, it's actually the default option for many online games.
That comes with its own criticisms, of course, as combining Xbox and PC can lead to an unbalanced playing field in some circumstances. In general though, crossplay has been a massive benefit to so many people over the past few years, and we've really been reaping the benefits of it here at Pure Xbox.
But what do you think about it? Is crossplay something you engage with regularly, either with friends or simply when matchmaking online, and what do you think about it overall? We'd love to hear from you in the poll below.

Cross play has been a game changer for my family.
We have multiple platforms and my kids have friends on all platforms.
Games likes, Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft etc are all regularly played with friends. I just wish some of the older games had cross play as I’d like to enjoy games like Destiny 1 with my son without having to buy another console.
We live in a modern world with interconnectivity. So cross play is (in my opinion) the best way forward.
To be honest I never used it with friends. Most I use it with is randos on games like Call of Duty since that's the default for multiplayer. I have thought about using it since I have an Xbox Series X/S and my son has a PS5 but we really don't have any crossplatform games to play since most of the games he owns on PS5 are single player games.
The question you should be asking is would people like the in game option to enable/disable cross play and who with. Currently a lot of the choice is not with the consumer its being dictated by XBOX.
Every game should have the options in game and not removed forcing users to go into their console settings. The options should include cross play enable/disable and if enabled then the choice of playing with console, PC or both.
Right now XBOX is dictating this and it absolutely stinks. I didnt buy an XBOX Series X to be forced to play FPS/PvP against PC users I want to play against all console users. And if I had known that XBOX directly asks devs to pull the option from XBOX games whils PS users get to keep the option I probably wouldn't have gone the XBOX route.
Crossplay is almost a must have for me.
I was dissapointed that dragonball sparking zero didnt have (yet)
With call of duty its always crossplay. I play it on pc and they on PlayStation.
I don’t play online much but every now and then my friend will get me to play something through crossplay
I use it with friends once in a while. It's mostly something I use with Randoms without thinking about it. I play Halo infinite on PC/Steam a lot and notice most lobbies are more xbox focused. Call of duty seems to lean consoles too. I'm sure there are plenty of other games that I am unaware that crossplay is enabled.
It's not something I think about or notice unless I have to link up with friends on a different platform or it makes it obvious which platform everyone is on. The more players the better in my opinion.

Agree. Crossplay on CoD with PC/Mouse is just so unfair, even if they're not cheating they still have a massive advantage using a mouse because you really can't match their movement using a controller.
I hate crossplay for CoD so I switch it off in the Xbox settings, even then I still get PC players playing with their Xbox account, it's a joke.
I'd be fine with console only crossplay. I wish crossplay had never been added to CoD, had no problems getting games before crossplay and can get into games quickly enough in the older ones without crossplay.
I try to avoid crossplay when I can in multiplayer to avoid PC based players.
I use it all the time as i don’t see a reason why it shouldn’t be a thing. Don’t matter to me if you are on PS5 and i am on Series X. However for shooting games, the PC can be a bit of an issue. I deal with it. But i do wish it was just console to console. PC is a different thing to allow it for some games. However most of my Diablo 4 friends i play with are on PC and that don’t make a Differnce. I like it overall and use it a lot. Glad Sony quit blocking it.
@PGS_71 Crossplay is set up through input control on CoD. Unless you change the option yourself you don't play with mouse and keyboard players.
I’m on the boat of it being a game changer. I don’t play as many online multiplayer games as I used to but it’s been really nice when I do. The bulk of my buddies are on PC and PS5, so being able to just turn on my Xbox and play with whoever is incredible. Crazy to remember things weren’t this way in the past.
I dont really use it all that much, but my daughter does all the time. I have all consoles and pc, but she only has a switch. (She can use all) As im not much into buying multiple copies, it makes things much cheaper and easier for her to play and me to not worry about where i buy things.
I dont play mp games much anymore, but shes 9 and plays nothing but mp games(friends only) so its great knowing she can play with friends regardless of platform and I can monitor what she plats still. No hassle at all.
cross play & cross progression are one of the best things to ever happen to gaming . it’s suuuper convenient
Darktide, Space Marine 2, Diablo 4 with friends on PC.
Its in several games i play a lot. Diablo 4 & Minecraft being the main ones but its not something i actively use.
I love it. Up until a couple of years ago I always played on PlayStation, so that's where my friends are. I think it's amazing that we can all still play together and it doesn't matter who is using what system.
@PGS_71 you don't need a pc to use a mouse and keyboard in COD. It is one of many games that have that perk on xbox. I'm glad xbox and playstation allow that as an accessibility feature in a lot of games.
It's hard to see it as an advantage when it's available to everyone. Just like controller sensitivity sliders are available to those that can play with high sensitivity on controllers. It doesn't make it unfair to those that choose a lower sensitivity and don't put it in the practice to use the higher sensitivity.
@BacklogBrad
I know you can use a mouse with Xbox but the vast majority of Xbox players use a controller whereas the vast majority of PC players use a mouse.
Yes you can increase sensitivity settings for a controller but it's never gonna make the difference for using a mouse. I think most people agree that mouse and keyboard provides an advantage over Controller, just Google it. Of course if you are of the opinion that it's fair to put mouse players in with controller players then of course you are entitled to your view, I just don't agree.
@Tasuki
Are you saying there is a way to prevent mouse players joining a CoD lobby? I'd love to know how, please explain. Thanks
@PGS_71 It's in the options of CoD usually under the crossplay or network options. It's called input device and you can toggle it between Controller only, Mouse and Keyboard only or both.
Also as someone else pointed out you can use mouse and keyboard on the Xbox as well.
@PGS_71 but it's an option that is available to everyone no matter where they are playing so it shouldn't really be considered unfair.
I'm just curious where your opinion would end for fairness in input devices. Elite vs base xbox controllers? What about 1st party vs 3rd party controllers with turbo buttons? Stick extensions that give more precision to the joysticks? Fight stick controllers for fighting games? Etc
@BacklogBrad
I'm not trying to convince you to agree with me, I simply gave my opinion which is shared by many. You only have to look at the top players in any crossplay CoD game, they are nearly always PC mouse and that's not a coincidence.
We will just agree to disagree. Thanks
@Tasuki
I just checked MW3 on Xbox and no such option exists.
Crossplay is pretty much the standard when I'm playing online games with friends. The multiplayer games I play the most (Fortnite and Sea of Thieves) most of my friends play on other platforms so Crossplay is a must.
I think it needs to be a standard feature as it's really annoying when you can't play games with people because of restrictions. I even had a problem on PC where my friends were all playing a game, also on PC, but I couldn't join them as they had it on Steam, and I bought from the Microsoft Store.
