Today is the big day, folks - Dragon's Dogma 2 is officially out on Xbox Series X|S! Yep, Capcom's long-awaited RPG sequel has landed, and here at Pure Xbox we're very happy with how it's turned out after more than a decade since the release of Dragon's Dogma.
However, with this release developer Capcom has officially raised its prices, with Dragon's Dogma 2 coming in at $70 day one for the very first time in the team's history. So, does this one seem worth the price of admission? Are you tempted to buy Dragon's Dogma 2 for $70 even with the whole microtransaction controversy that's going on?
It goes without saying that we definitely think DD2 is worth the cost - we've just scored it an Outstanding 10/10 in our full written review. However, the community has expressed concerns with those aforementioned DLC packs, along with the game's launch-day performance - outlet IGN says it may be worth waiting for a few patches if performance is of the upmost priority to you.
This developer has absolutely been delivering on quality lately though — it just won Metacritic's best-rated publisher of 2023 — and Dragon's Dogma 2 is continuing that trend into 2024. The question is, will you fork out $70 for it, or are you happy to wait for a price drop before picking up Dragon's Dogma 2?

- Absolutely, it looks well-worth the price!
- Potentially, I'm going to read up on more impressions over the weekend
- Maybe, if I can afford it!
- I want it but I'm going to wait for a price drop
- I'll wait and hope it hits Xbox Game Pass
- If they improve the performance I might buy it
- Nah, I have no interest in Dragon's Dogma 2 at any price!

One of the worst optimized games of this generation. Can't even run at a locked 60 fps on PC. That's a huge red flag.
Believe it is not optimised that well at all.
Simple wait for patches and the price to go down.
Strange industry, where the later you buy the cheaper you get the game but at better patched quality. Once the public vote with their money and buy later, things might change.
We hardly have much physical stock, so think there was a bit of rushing going on there to get the game out to shops.
I'm going to wait them out on a $20 or $30 sale.
I am kind of happy to see them get heat for the microtransactions. From my understanding, the game doesn't run well anywhere and doesn't currently allow a second save file. To have these issues and the typical "were working on it" response but also a full slate of mtx at launch is pretty infuriating.
This game absolutely looks like its well worth the price.
And all people talking just about fps….. why?.
After seeing Exoprimal, the RE games, and Monster Hunter all coming to game pass in the past year or so - It wouldn't surprise if this makes its way to the service in 2025. I can wait until then
Too much to play on Game pass to pay full price for games these days. Definitely one I'll play at some point in the future. Baldur's Gate 3 is first though.....
I don't care about the FPS stuff, I'm just not interested in the game.
@Friendly not just FPS. It has a bunch of slowdown and technical issues. There are a lot of people that I've seen with buyer's remorse and are waiting until a few patches have come out. We should be concerned about how games run. I truly don't care about 30 fps on consoles, but if you have a $2000 PC setup and it can't run at a higher frame rate, then there's some kind of underlying issue with the optimization.
I’m not that interested in DD2 just because the first one never clicked with me, but I’d buy it at full price if it had.
$70 and single player micro transactions? no, I'm not stupid.
More interested in Avowed, but i am sure DD2 will be decent numbers as fan’s have waited a long time for it.
Like always I Will Wait for a sale then buy it, by doing this it let devs time to polish the game and it costs less money, the only exceptions to my philosophy are Nintendo Games , since they rarely drop in Price and habitualy they are not broken on release like so many games these Days.
This game deserves all the flak Diablo 4 got for being $70 and having COSMETIC MTX and than some!! I will wait for a sale as I did with Dark arisen on switch. I regretted getting DD1 day one on 360
Was really looking forward to DD2 but will now pivot to something in my backlog until BG3 goes on sale… I can wait…
Rushed out the door, poor performance on current hardware, and day 1 mtx selling F2P style tedium removers.
Everything about this games screams wait until the remaster next gen. The core game sounds excellent. We just need to wait a generation until the game actually works correctly.
Ironically it was much the same with the first game. It sucked until the Dark Arisen remaster/bundle. The era of "Capcom can do no wrong" has officially ended. It was a weird era, though. Capcom was a four letter word for the prior 15 years.
Preordered it on PS5. Part of me got it because I’ve heard “if you love Elden Ring…” and then there’s the whole thing where Capcom’s been so solid lately. I never played the first one though, so I’m being trusting… which is hard in this industry, but I’m a guy that trusts Square, so logic evades me, huh?
Another part of me got it because… what else is coming out this year? Might need a time sink
I was thinking about splurging, but got cold feet and may just hang with the backlog until I hear more and figure if this is really for me. The price does not bother me, seems like it would be entertaining enough to justify. Microtransactions don't bother me either. You can choose to ignore them, but the fact that some will buy maybe helps recoup cost and fund the next game. If there were more cosmetic and optional pkay accelerating microtransactions, maybe it would keep overall cost down, so games don't make the jump to 80 too soon
I’m having so much fun. Got ambushed by a griffin (and an Ogre of course I am in a party of all women so f them fricken ogres. ) and got tossed off the griffin and as I was watching my character flail to her death one of my pawns caught me! I just started laughing in anxious relief. Yeah this game is gonna eat my life. Bought the deluxe edition. Let’s go! The griffin tried to ambush an oxcart to get food and I got my revenge haha!
Didn’t expect to encounter drakes so early though.
I pre-ordered it but just requested a refund today after learning it has micro transactions.
I'm gonna wait for a sale. By that time it should be optimized a bit better at least
I have preordered so did not pay full price tbf but I am way for the weekend and I will have to see some proper gameplay up to Monday to see if I return it or not (like I did with Jedi survivor) and buy a second hand copy down the line
Was really on the fence - I really dislike games that don't run at 60FPS as a general rule (IMO it's much better to have a game that runs smoothly - CPU-taxing advanced physics and AI and being able to make piles of potatoes that behave realistically in Starfield is fine - but things like that are very rarely worth sacrificing smooth 60FPS responsiveness for.)
But DD2 isn't too bad - on series X it feels similar to Elden Ring in quality mode I would say.
If anyone is on the fence over the framerate, I would say that it's one of the most bearable sub-60FPS action games I've played as far as how it's responsivness feels - certainly a lot better than playing DD1 at 30FPS
Yup, I got it. On PS5 though.
It's £53.98 on steam.
I thought Dragon's Dogma 1 was overrated so I never really had much interest in this one.
I got the game for PS5 for £60 and have zero regrets. The performance is nowhere near as bad as I was expecting and the gameplay is fantastic. I might even get a copy for my series S on discount.
Before that launch I was 100% on the fence especially with the unlocked 30fps.
The motion blur effect used to smooth out the FPS seems similar to the one used on Forza 5 for it's 30fps mode..it's surprisingly well implemented. I think it's something to do with shutter technology.
I'm not really hung up on the mtx, it's all pointless stuff you can get in game anyways. I have seen a lot of misinformation about it online being P2W (not surprised). There isn't anything that makes the game especially easier so I don't plan on buying any dlc except anything that adds content.
Sounds like a buggy, micro transaction riddled mess. Not sure how it received 10/10's.
Picked up a hard copy yesterday and put about 3 hours into it so far (on Series X). The FPS sure isn't smooth even out in the wild, and combat can get confusing with no lock on. But it's a lot of fun. Pawns, so far anyway, are good company and make you feel part of a team. Scenery is amazing. Everything looks so detailed - a real step up from the likes of RDR2.
I'm not getting involved in MTX so that doesn't affect me personally. Would rather keep exploring and experimenting. Looks like each vocation has a completely different combat style, so that should help things keep fresh too.
I guess that I would buy it when I finished the first one (wich I didn’t even started)
@JustinSane i see. Guess Capcom has to work on some patches which is a shame. Usually their games come out in an excellent state.
@Theaussiegamer92 Luckily you don't need to play the 1st one if you don't want to.
I was really looking forward to it. But they need to fix the game, bugs, performance, and then maybe I’ll get it on inevitable holiday discount for $40-50 if it’s not coming to game pass
I don’t pay $70 for games. Might when it is on sale.
So much games here unplayed. That is reason 1 for not buying it now.
Got DD2 on PC for $60.
I bought it on PS5 after seeing how horrible the performance is on series X with extremely muddy visuals. I would definitely advise anyone thinking of buying it on X Box to watch the Digital Foundry video before purchasing as it really isn't good right now and it's probably a good Idea to wait to see if they can fix the issues before pulling the trigger.
90% of my friends love these games. I tried the first one 3 times and just don't get it. Still, I'm glad my friends are happy.
The price of games is a problem. It’s not necessarily that the developers don’t deserve more, it’s a matter that there is a lack of consistency in 3rd party titles. It’s a Capcom game, there is a good chance of it being marked down by at least 20% in the first three months.
