We have a super serious day ahead of us tomorrow when Xbox delivers its 'business update' on what's next for the platform, but for today, let's talk about some video games.
Putting all of the multiplatform drama aside for a minute here, Xbox has a really good games lineup planned for 2024. As was showcased at Xbox Developer Direct last month, we have a handful of amazing AAA titles to look forward to from Microsoft's studios already.
Hellblade 2, Ara: History Untold, Avowed and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are all locked in for this year, not to mention what's not yet been announced. We'll definitely have another Call of Duty game to get stuck into in 2024 - and that'll technically be a first-party release as well!
As we're focusing on Xbox studios only, we're going to ignore the likes of Stalker 2 for now - even though we're super excited for that one too! We'll also skip over first-party projects like Fable, State of Decay 3, Everwild and others for the time being, considering we have no idea when they'll actually launch.
So, from what's confirmed for 2024 - which Xbox first-party game are you looking forward to most? Is it Hellblade 2 given how close to release we are, or do you already have your eyes firmly locked on Indiana Jones?
Vote in the poll down below and discuss the lineup so far in the comments!
Which 2024 Xbox First-Party Title Are You Most Excited For? (557 votes)
- Hellblade 2
- Ara: History Untold (PC)
- Towerborne (Published By Xbox)
- Avowed
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

Indy is my first choice but I'm also excited for avowed, Ara and flight sim. It's a good year when hellblade 2 is my 4th or 5th pick, I liked the first hellblade quite a bit.
Indy, Avowed, Hellbalde 2, MSFS 24 in that order.
1. Gears 6
2. Gears Tactics 2
3. Gears of War: The Marcus Fenyx Trilogy Remaster
4. Hellblade 2
5. Avowed
6. Blade
7. Indiana Jones
8. Ara: History Untold
9. Towerborne
Not interested in Flight Simulator as I find it both difficult and boring.
Interesting to note how the games are referred to as First Party and not Exclusive...!
Avowed, even if it did look a little jank in places.
1. Hellblade II
2. Hellblade II
3. Hellblade II
Sorry for the bad joke, but I loved the first one and part II looks great. Looking forward to an intense, if short, game (as devs have said).
About the others, the Indy game looks fun.
Definitely Indy first and Avowed second… if we don’t count Fable or Elder Scrolls 6! South of Midnight’s up there on my list too.
Indiana Jones and then Avowed, I might give Flight Simulator a go as well
@somnambulance same here south of midnight fable and clockwork revolution are the 3 I'm most looking forward to overall 🤣 plus the indies😎
Hellblade 2 would be my #1 with Indiana Jones my #2.
Biggest reason I got the Xbox was for flight sim and the jobs in coop will be great fun with friends.
@Fiendish-Beaver damn, I didn't know 3 new gears games were coming out in 2024
From this voting, it looks like nobody cares about Ara
@FatGuyInLilCoat Man I wish.
Indy on going by what we saw a while ago at the showcase, but that could change to one of the others if and when we get more details and gameplay.
Avowed could turn out really decent, but looked and bit rough in places, sort of not smooth, but again plenty of time to work on it.
Not sure why, but I keep thinking Hellblade 2 is going to be bad. I think it will look amazing, probably the best looking game to date. But the game itself? Not so sure. Hope I'm wrong.
Looking at the voting, to me Hellblade 2 the studio behind Ninja Theory, they should have spent all that time on a third person action game type game maybe a devil may cry type and it would have been up there with Indy in the voting and done far more the Xbox brand of games.
I’m conflicted in that I want to play Indy now but think it is really a 2025 release and Avowed which will be a 2024 release. So I picked Avowed….
Hellblade 2 for me, I really liked the first one and I think Senua is a compelling character.
Initially I would have said Avowed, but after seeing Indiana Jones gameplay I went from not interested to really interested.
You can't go wrong with killing Nazis.
1. Indy
2. Hellblade 2
3 MS FS
By the end of the year something Forza Horizon 6 related
@Fiendish-Beaver
Probably My favourite Xbox franchise Gears.
Gears is well over due its five years this year since gears 5.
Surely this summers showcase we will get gameplay and a tease for 2025 release date.
Hellblade 2 for me. Looks incredible and heard its not a long game which is nice. Will of course play Avowed and Indy as well.
Wishful thinking on my behalf, I'm afraid, @Halucigens...
Mine too, @OldGamer999, we are indeed well past the point at which we should know something regarding the franchise...
Definitely Indy. I’m not really excited about the rest. Maybe state of decay if that was to release this year. Flight sim 24 could be cool if they make the missions a bit like the old Pilotwings as that was really replayable.
Although non first party there’s a few other games I’m interested in picking up;
Palworld
Turnip boy robs a bank
Tekken 8
Star Wars dark forces remake
Slave zero x
South Park snow day
Contra Operation Galuga
There’s quite a bit to look forward to I think. Not all doom and gloom lol.
@Fiendish-Beaver
Yeah, development world doesn’t seem the same during and since covid.
All that hybrid working from home that happens now. I live with and see the effects at my work.
Let alone a collaboration game development process.
For The King was a blast with my friends, so, I'm very interested on Towerborne.
I didn't like The Outer Worlds at all, but I think Avowed has a good change to be a great game. Let's hope for the best.
Indy, Avowed then Hellblade 2 (provided it has a performance mode). Flight Sim deserves some love but it is a storage killer.
And what about 2024 Call of Duty?….not everyone’s cup of tea, but isn’t it now ‘first party’? (even if there’s something weird going on with Microsoft not dropping ABK games onto Gamepass)
@Kieduss I'd be okay with it! Love that game
I think that we will learn tomorrow that the likes of Call of Duty will not go on to the Game Pass for between 6 to 12 months after its release, @Feffster. I think that is just one of the items of bad news we will hear. Unfortunately, I think the money men at Microsoft are being insistent on getting a rapid return on their ABK investment...
Avowed for me but it probably would have been Ara if it was on console.
@Vipor007 I absolutely care about Ara it looks like the next generation of 4x but I don’t have a decent PC.
@Halucigens Same here, I hate to think how much I've spent on peripherals and add ons (realistically over £1200).
FS2024 looks like an improvement across the board and, unless it's announced tomorrow that it's coming to PSVR2 I'm not really too bothered what happens.
Flight Sim 24 looks looks interesting to me. Indiana Jones may be decent. Avowed lost me when they said there would be no romance options despite classing itself as a role playing game.
Only Avowed out of those. Probably won't try the others even if they're on Game Pass.
1/ Hellblade 2.
2/ ....err, that's it for 1st party IP's.
Been bitten too often recently to get too excited for anything 1st party.
Hi there fellow gamers
From that list I have to go with Hellblade 2. Very curious what will they do with both story and gameplay combat mechanics.
As for other first party titles:
We shall see what the future holds.
Cheers everyone and happy gaming
My number One is easily Avowed but I am also very interested in both Indy and Hellblade. The others are not for me but they do look like quality content too!!
Avowed first.
Indy looks pretty sweet, but I'd have far prefered 3rd person (personal preference). I'll be happy to try it though.
Not interested in Hellblade 2 except from a tech view as the tech looks awesome. Apparently there's a small game in there too..
I'd be delighted if we could get another Gears game, but it's been so long!
Avowed then Towerborne, which might be a ton of fun co-op. Absolutely love the studio Stoic who made The Banner Saga.
Indy isn't really a genre I enjoy but that last trailer does have me getting on the hype train a little bit.
Y'all are sleeping on Towerborne. That game looks awesome.
