This week, Xbox announced the delay of the next chapter in the Fable series, with the anticipated fantasy RPG now scheduled to arrive in 2026.
To make up for this, Xbox also showed some new "pre-alpha footage" of this massive project, and we've now rounded up some of the more interesting bits - highlighting a little more about what you can possibly expect when it does finally launch on Xbox.
So, here you go - five things you may or may not have noticed in the latest gameplay footage. Enjoy!
1. Horse riding

We're likely getting a much bigger experience in the new Fable (it is coming from the developers of the Forza Horizon series after all) and apart from what we're guessing will be the usual teleportation abilities like fast travel, it seems horse riding will also be a way to traverse the land of Albion. Now just imagine horse drifting!
2. Hobbes return

Hobbes have been a staple pest in the Fable series and it looks like they're back in this new outing to be sliced and diced once again. The protagonist in the latest footage certainly makes quick work of them with a few swift swings!
3. Monopoly

While we can't say for sure, Fable's real estate and property game also appears to be making a return - with what could be property signs popping up all over Albion in the latest gameplay footage.
4. Seamless transitions
One comment made by Xbox's "head of premiere broadcast" Tina Amini was how there appears to be almost a "seamless transition" between the cinematics and gameplay - with Xbox head Craig Duncan acknowledging how it's all "very real" and "very playable".
5. Chicken kicker

Chicken kicking has quite the history in the Fable series. For example, think back to Fable 2 and you might remember the Xbox 360 achievement "The Chicken Kicker". Well, at the end of the latest round of pre-alpha footage, Xbox showed the player's character kicking a chicken!
So, those are just some of the things we've spotted in the latest round of Fable footage. Keep in mind, this is all "pre-alpha footage" so it is techncially subject to change between now and the game's launch.
What was your highlight of the new game footage revealed? Did you notice anything else? Let us know in the comments.

Can't wait for this game!
It LOOKS absolutely stunning, but I wasn't blown away by the combat gameplay which looked pretty basic and rigid to me. But hopefully it will play better than it seemed. Fingers firmly crossed for this one, as I love Fable.
I mean look at the visuals in that last shot - absolutely stunning. Don't think I've seen a game with that much splendour since Plague Tale. Love this spread too - just makes it all the more exciting and the wait feel all the longer, but this looks like it's gunna be worth the wait and more.
@Kaloudz I agree, the gameplay footage so far looks amazing! Especially that last shot indeed, i don’t know what but it’s so compelling and makes me want to explore the world.
Does anyone know what engine is being used for this game? Is it Unreal?
Can’t wait to play this. Once i seen the horse riding, i thought is this going to be open world a little like RDR2 but in fable world. That would be a killer game. Also the graphics on this look insanely good. Playground games is a top notch dev team.
@LogicStrikesAgain it’s there own engine called Forzatech
It's looking great! Give them more time to make it the best it can be. With the amount of games Xbox is releasing this year we can happily wait for it. Perhaps a launch title with the new Xbox?
Really looking forward to buying this, though I hope they do a Collector's Edition as I would prefer to buy it.
I did wonder whether one of the 'spotted' was a PlayStation logo, as it is rumoured to be arriving day and date there too... 😉
@Prestige-worldwide Well, that’s one pretty looking engine that’s for sure

The realistic art style is something I thought wouldn't work for the series but it does somehow. It looks great.

This makes me miss Fable Fortune.
@Prestige-worldwide @LogicStrikesAgain Mostly right, the engine is ForzaTech but it wasn’t developed by Playground games, it was developed by Turn 10 studios, makers of Forza Motorsport, not Horizon.
Take your time.
But let me have the male and female.
@Steel76 Jesus, you must have a hard time dealing with real life where people don't look like your favourite plastic doll.
The protagonist in this game is exactly who they should be showing and I know I'm not alone in being grateful she doesn't look like a dead or alive beach babe. Do you think an adventurers life begins with immaculately applying make up?
Looks good. Hope the Heroine is like Sparrow’s ancestor (like grandma or something) as I thought the fable 3 time skip was too much. Even though it was only a generation. Also I love her freckles.
