Re: Lima Sky's Doodle Jump Bounding to Kinect

Crunchewy

The original was Papi Jump, which was free (rather, still is). Doodle Jump made it look prettier but was basically a copy... and then they decided to try to take down other apps in the App Store with the word "Doodle" in their name, even though Doodle Jump wasn't even the first with that word in the name. Ridiculous. Lima Sky claimed this attack on other indie devs wasn't really their fault, but that's a bit hard to believe. I vote for not supporting these folks.

Ah, just checked the reviews on amazon (us) and they aren't encouraging. Sounds like to doesn't work nearly as well as the videos have implied. You character is choppy and has a kind of glow around them, the evaluation of your scenes is poor (says you were improvising when you were saying the lines), etc. Sounds like it will be worth picking up at firesale pricing, but not for full price.

Re: Talking Point: How Would You Bring Halo to Kinect?

Crunchewy

I wouldn't bring Halo to Kinect all. FPS aren't going to play well on Kinect and having them will just make Kinect look bad. It isn't for so-called "core" games at all. Let Kinect be what it is - a great casual games system. It might be useful for "augmenting" physical controls in a game, but I'm skeptical of that working for core type games that require precision. Forza 4's head tracking, maybe. I have to try it. What I want is a new Pinball Hall of Fame with head tracking for "looking" onto the playfield. That would be pretty awesome. Lean forward and to the right to get a good look at a shot with an upper right flipper. That kind of thing. It would feel natural and be genuinely useful. Aiming a gun in Halo? I don't think so.

Re: Kinect to Receive an Official Microsoft Controller with Buttons

Crunchewy

What developer, other then Microsoft for a little while, is going to sink any money into supporting a combination that so few people are going to have, and even if they do, are going to want to use together? This is a completely ridiculous idea. If they want to have a controller, they should just make one for Kinect.

Re: New Dance Central DLC Has a Freaky Vibe to It

Crunchewy

For me, Super Freak is way more interesting then "current hits". YMMV. Of course, I don't actually own Dance Central, so my point is moot. I have been considering it, but all the top 40 hits are a major turnoff. One of the reasons I chose Dance Masters was because it wouldn't be subjecting me to the music I hear playing at the grocery store.

Re: Rumour: Angry Birds to Make a Nest with Kinect Controls

Crunchewy

Unless there are some major improvements in accuracy, I can see this being infinitely frustrating. Plus it's unclear to me how you would release the slingshot since Kinect can't see fingers. So I really doubt it will support Kinect. Obviously it's going to come to XBLA, but not to Kinect.

Re: First Michael Phelps - Push the Limit Trailer in its HD Glory

Just think Kinect Sports sprint, but that's the whole game, but with your arms. Spin your arms and spin your arms some more. Woohoo! ;^) Ok, so actually I have no idea how they turned this into a game, but you can be absolutely positively sure that I won't be pre-ordering it. Who would, especially given that trailer that doesn't show anyone playing the game?

Re: The Gunstringer Rides into Xbox Live Arcade on Kinect

Crunchewy

Is Kinectaku just presuming this is an XLBA title, or do they actually have info stating that? The blog post makes no mention of XBLA at all. So far all Kinect games have been retail discs, and so far there seems to not really be a way for XBLA games to be launched from the Kinect Hub.

Re: Microsoft Still Developing Kinect Dashboard Features

Crunchewy

I want to see ESPN3 let me, at the very least, have access to my favorite sports when in Kinect mode. You can still access them using a controller, but via Kinect you get a much more limited version of ESPN3 and far fewer choices of things to watch.

Unrelated to Kinect, ESPN3 desperately needs to save your place in on-demand events when you quit. Trying to watch a cricket game is painful as it stands now, unless you do it all in one sitting.

Re: Features: Five Kinect Games to Move You in 2011

Crunchewy

I'm curious about the "head tracking" in Forza. What exactly is that going to do? As somebody else pointed out on another message board, if you look to the left you'll see... the wall? You're turning away from your TV screen. Head tracking of that sort makes no sense whatsoever.

Re: Here's a List of Useful Kinect Voice Commands

Crunchewy

It stays in recognition mode for a while after you first say Xbox, so for example, you can go page to page by saying, "Xbox next next next next". It's very slickly done, but we did run into the problem today that it doesn't recognize my 9 year olds voice well. It works flawlessly with mine, but not my kids. My 8 year old hasn't tried yet, but I don't have much hope. I hope they'll improve this in an update soon

Re: Kinect Shortages Claims are Ploys to Increase Demand, says Analyst

Crunchewy

The fact that amazon is discounting all Kinect games $10 already and it's not shown to be a sale, doesn't seem to bode well for Kinect game sales and perhaps the sensor either. They said 2.5 million have sold, which sounds good, but that's still only a fraction of the Xbox market, let alone the Wii market, and one wonders how many of those purchases were from people hoping to sell for profit rather then actually use it. I hope it's a big success, because it's such cool tech. I want to get it, but am worried it might prove to be a long term flop.
