If xbox continues to demonstrate that this much money is being left on the table then sony and nintendo execs will have a harder time keeping their games exclusive to one platform. It's hard to imagine a future where playstation games are not releasing on Nintendo and maybe even xbox (if xbox goes the pc route then it might not be up to sony).
It's been a slow death for exclusives but it looks like it's just a matter of time.
Deathloop was already an epic store giveaway. This is the second time they have had it as a freebie.
The outer worlds, Elder scrolls online, the evil within 1&2, wolfenstein new order, prey, ghostwire tokyo, dishonored/dishonored death of outsider and every fallout except 4 were also an epic freebie.
I'm not sure about the pillars of eternity ip ownership but that was a giveaway too. Epic giveaways are great and bethesda has given away pretty much their whole catalog there, most of them after xbox bought them.
@Millionski i think the next step for xbox and playstation is to move beyond just the box in the living room. Xbox has play anywhere and are going more towards a pc based system. Sony is rumored to be working on a pc store with cross entitlements similar to play anywhere. You can still buy the box if you want to, but they need to expand beyond that as the only place to play their games.
I believe the industry is much worse if you need to buy box A to play this set of games and box B to play that set of games. It's annoying to have all those different boxes and libraries if you can afford them and prohibitive to those that can't afford all of them.
@Xboxian360 if exclusives were the reason to buy an Xbox, no one would have ever bought an Xbox to begin with. They went decades with very little first party support. 1st party content was their greatest weakness until the last 2 years.
There are about to be more xbox hardware devices available than any other generation. There will be the Microsoft devices, officially licensed 3rd party devices and probably a more fleshed out xbox environment on pc. You are also ignoring that Nintendo and Steam compete head to head with Sony already and will continue to do so. It will be even more so when Steam's "home console" device comes out and other pc companies release their own "console" pc like they did with handhelds. Sony has never seen more competition than they are right now. Xbox isn't going anywhere but Sony wouldn't have anything close to a monopoly if they did.
You seem to be making the same mistake the FTC made when they tried to redefine what the industry is. The companies are evolving beyond the single home device restriction and the industry will be better for it.
Exclusives do nothing but make it harder for people to buy and play the game.
@Xboxian360 how does selling more copies of games make anyone less competitive? Arent the headlines of "xbox dominates playstation best seller list" indicative of more competition? Xbox isn't going anywhere.
It's not my jam. I gave it a few hours but wasn't willing to commit anymore with all the other stuff waiting to be played. I probably shouldn't give a score with the 3ish hours I put into it but I gave it a 6.
I want them to lean into the xbox is a pc strategy. So a handheld that only has xbox store/interface is not something i want. Hopefully they get windows into a more gaming focused state. It seems like steamOS is lighting a fire inside microsoft and showing them that default windows is not the best choice for every device. They need a version with no bloat and is gaming focused.
Steam deck kind of already has the solution with the desktop mode as a separate thing to use for the computing side of setting it up and the gaming mode for ease of use/console feel.
It was a great month for gamepass. Doom dark ages is currently leading the game of the year for me even though I still believe it is worse than the other two from the doom reboot trilogy. Another awesome game in the excellent doom series.
As a consumer, I view the gamepass model as far superior. I do not want the company to force me to buy the game at full price or subscribe to a monthly service to get access to that game in the distant future. Xbox gives the consumer the decision, buy to own or play it with a subscription. Pro tip - buy 1 month of gamepass, use %20 discount to purchase to own a couple games the savings will be more than the month of gamepass so you save money and get 1 month of gp access.
By "healthier" he really means less appealing. FOMO/exclusion is the only card Sony plays. Now that Sony releases are so few and far between, what will ever make their subscription appealing?
I doubt i will be home with nothing to do on a sunday at noon so I will probably catch the replay later or just read a summary. If I end up being free, then I will watch it on screen 2 while gaming.
1. I already have a rog ally (I like it, with some reservations).
2. The price is going to hurt on this one (and all other consoles). I think the rog ally was already close to $700 when I bought mine years ago.
3. The real xbox handheld isn't very far away.
Doom the dark ages mostly. I will probably emulate some ps2 as well. I can continue my saves in burnout 3 or mvp baseball 2003 and I have almost 100% the godfather.
The current remastered version of bioshock 1 is incredible and already visually great. The controls are not outdated. There really isn't a ton of room for improvement.
I would much rather see them do a remake of something else. Sid meiers pirates (or any of the old SM games), the bigs, the darkness, xcom enemy unknown, etc.
Doom Dark Ages is an interesting case for the multiplat topic. It is the biggest Id launch ever yet is absolutely dominating on xbox. 2/3 of the players are xbox players. People do not seem to be shifting away from xbox. Xbox in no way loses by releasing games everywhere even when multiplat is day 1.
I am always glad to see the FTC defeated. It is a completely flawed agency in need of major reform. Now they need to drop the case vs Meta/Facebook. The FTC is using the same flawed narrow market definitions they used against xbox. They claim Facebook does not compete with TikTok or youtube because those are "video sharing sites" not family/friend based social media. I hate meta/facebook but that is crazy to suggest they dont compete with tiktok or yt. Just like suggesting xbox doesn't compete with Nintendo or steam was crazy.
The FTC also categorized Kroger grocery stores as "traditional grocery stores" so that they could make the claim that Kroger does not compete with walmart, costco, amazon etc. It is insane to claim walmart and costco do not compete with grocery stores. It blows my mind that they were successful in blocking a Kroger merger.
None. If it's not on gamepass I'm waiting for a sale. I refuse to pay $80, I refuse to pay $70, I don't like paying $60. There are zero videogames past, present, or future that I consider worth $80.
I don't think people realize how many sales it takes to offset the upfront money a gamepass deal provides.
According to a leak, xbox expects big AAA games on day 1 to require $100M to $300M. At $70 per game, that is 1.4 million to 4.3 million copies. Doom the dark ages is at 3 million players even with gamepass.
Publishers don't care if gamepass reduces their sales totals because odds are the up front amount more than covered whatever dip in sales it caused. Plus gamepass is only a temporary rental where the gp players might buy the game to keep later.
Don't worry the "this is doing poorly" narrative won't go away. They will just blame it on gamepass as if thats a negative for the game. If anything that is better for xbox than a one time purchase but those doom (pun) and gloomers refuse to believe that. It would be interesting to see a breakdown of where pc gamers are for this game. If pc gamepass/playanywhere has more Doom DA players than Steam, I think that would be a huge deal and a big win for xbox.
Fun games but I dont know if it will ever get to be a major franchise. It will probably be one of those franchises that will always have a small dedicated fan base but will never be a household name. The upcoming game will probably show up on underrated or "games you probably missed" lists.
That's the dream, all stores competing on one device. I hope this happens, they also need to get the full xbox console digital store playable on the xbox pc app.
It does seem strange how few the rumors or leaks have been for the show being only a couple weeks away. Most years we seem to have the whole show just about revealed by now.
It should be another great show. 2026 is going to be another stacked year for xbox. They are on a roll right now. I imagine there will be lots of new announcements as well.

I don't care what critics or award voters think as long as I find them fun and xbox games lately have been amazing in my eyes. They also omitted flight sims 76 from their graphic, another game I adore.
I'm waiting on better performance from the game before I go back to it. I will keep an eye on updates for a little bit but I'm not sure how long I will be willing to keep 120gb on the drive.
Might end up deleting and moving on. Disappointing remaster so far for one of my absolute favorite games.
It's a great game but it's my least favorite of the recent trilogy. I replayed Eternal directly before diving into this one and that game is better in almost every way. Still a great game though and I really enjoy it. I think I'm settling on a score around 8 to 8.5.
We had double jump and dozens of unique glory kills, we had it all.
@acmiguens I don't think ps6 and the Series X successor will be much more powerful than current systems (but they will be expensive).
I also don't think there will be many (if any) games next gen that cannot run on ps5/ series x. They will run better on ps6 and nexbox but i think the days of games being flat out unable to run on the previous gen are just about over. If developers are targeting the widest audience possible then they will continue to target mid range pcs/switch/switch2/ps5 and maybe even ps4. A series x level handheld would miss out on single digit (likely zero) games that the series x successor has. Just like how the series s still has not missed out on anything the series x offers except split screen for baldurs gate 3 for a brief period.
Games have hit a plateau. Developers pushing limits of hardware are rare and getting rarer.
Even though PC has been my go-to since before this gen released, I feel like owning both series x and s has been well worth it.
I plan to continue pairing the future xbox consoles with pc. Having gamepass ultimate makes them a perfect pairing. It still blows my mind how seamless it is to pick up from the same save on my consoles, desktop, handheld, cloud, etc. Transferring a save on 2 Playstation or 2 Nintendo devices feels like outdated tech compared to xbox.
I wonder how many of these twitter clout chasers actually had a physical copy pre-ordered and actually canceled it. Probably not very many. Xbox should be able to see the real data, it's ultimately up to them if it seems like a real issue. I doubt they would see a difference in sales if the whole game is included on disc.
It sounds like it's centered on management positions so it doesn't sound like its whole teams getting let go. It probably won't affect xbox too much from a project standpoint.
The large bank i work at does this too. They promote a ton of people after they have been there awhile to manage small teams. Then they realize there are way too many small teams and eliminate managers to consolidate to larger teams. Then the process ends up repeating a few years later.
I was on the fence for launch before the price announcement but have decided to wait and see. I will probably end up with one someday but from what I have seen so far, I don't think I will be missing anything if I never get one.
They need to prove to me that the price increases are justified. I found the switch 1 to be a neat curiosity at first but that quickly wore off. I haven't wanted to play it for a few years now. I don't know what the switch 2 can do to seem appealing to me but I know they haven't shown that yet.
I believe nintendo is the worst platform to buy or play 3rd party games on so it comes down to if i find enough exclusives interesting to justify the $450 +$80 x each game. So far, zero games fit that bill for me.
I have heard from friends having major issues with crashes later in the game on series x. I still haven't had a crash on xbox pc app but I am not anywhere near late game with my 10 hours. Performance hasnt been great even without full crashes.
I am juggling a ton of games right now and this one might take a back seat until I am a little more confident there won't be issues.
Hopefully Doom is ready for my no life playthrough.
They shouldn't really point to pentiment as an example of a "failure". That game was not designed with top of the charts in mind. It is a very low budget passion project.
