The most exciting announcement I saw in that show was Psi-Ops getting ported. Hopeful that means either an Xbox port or BC support to be announced soon. Also reassuring to see that the franchise isn't completely vaporware. Maybe we'll finally get the conclusion I've been waiting 20 years for.
Just Dynasty Warriors for me. The Stuntman one looked interesting but I guess it's exclusiva.
@Lup Not sure yet! Will continue updating the article for the next hour-or-so with any additional confirmations (they often trickle out post-show).
Update: It's not exclusive, just got a press release confirming it's Xbox as well.
@FraserG
Niceeeee! That's all I was interested in!
Can't believe Onimusha 4 came out before 3. Hoping it gets released on all consoles. Fingers crossed that 3 is announced at the Summer Game Fest or Xbox's thing.
@Bueno_Excelente you mean xbox state of play?
As much as I love PlayStation, this showcase once again showed me why I’m losing steam on their exclusives. The third party adventures that have the same type of gameplay gets exhausting. Don’t get me wrong, Wolverine and God of War look great—I’ll be buying them, no doubt—but I feel like I’ve seen these worlds 100x over. It all feels the same.
For those wondering, Runescape: Dragonwilds, Silent Hill: Townfall, The Lost Wild, Kemuri and No Rest For The Wicked are all unfortunately not coming to Xbox alongside their PS5 launches.
No Rest For The Wicked has been confirmed for Xbox "at a later date".
No silent hill townfall for xbox..more depressing news. Really feel like giving up on the brand these days, the negativity is becoming a bit too much to be honest.
Oh wait. Onimusha is on xbox?! Welp let me edit my wishlist.
September is absolutely ruthless for releases if you game across both machines.
Stuntman looks sweet!
I'm looking forward to some of these games: Rayman Legends Retold, Tomb Raider... I'm still watching the trailers. Stuntman Hollywood looks like a lot of fun.
Funny that gory, I mean "horror" Ill game censors genitals after dismembering bodies and piercing heads.
Not really interested in any of this, my wife will probably like the Dune game. The biggest thing from the show for me is No Rest for the Wicked getting 1.0 in October. Sadly I'll have to wait longer for the Xbox version since Xbox is in such a sad state that devs just openly say porting to us is low priority now. We're in that phase of the death spiral.
Edit: disappointed that Light No Fire wasn't at the show, their house is usually tied to Sony and we're overdue for news.
Xbox needs to fight back with some exclusives on Sunday or else they’ll be the laughingstock once again.
The state of play ruveals are not really exciting though…
@Sindayl They'll likely do that, seeing what Asha is doing and the most upvoted feedback on Xbox Player Voice (not on Twitter like PS fans say), but that will start next year at the earliest. The most they can do for now is hide the PS logos as Sony hides the Xbox logos.
@PennywiZe666 Townfall will probably just be a timed exclusive like Silent Hill 2 (ie. Sony money hatted it). I’m 99% sure it will come to Xbox eventually.
I thought I also heard it was originally just a VR release. So if it was initially developed for PSVR that also may be a reason it’s just PS initially.
@Jenkinss The No Rest for the Wicked devs (who also did the Ori games) had a falling out with Microsoft after MS cut ties with them due to workplace controversies. And now they seem to have a beef with MS and I think this is more about that than the console itself.
@Banjo- The fact Asha takes big advice from Twitter sacks should be concerning you not making you happy. Seriously a CEO from a Trillion dollar company letting Twitter dictate her actions for the company is a terrible look for her and puts questions on her skill at running a company.
@awp69 Yep, I remember reading bitter statements from the owner of the studio when Xbox stopped funding their games.
@Banjo- Considering that helix is literally built around non exlusivity (access to multiple store fronts meaning access to game purchases with no cut for MS) and they went multi platform to bring in money they clearly arent/wasn't making, I get the feeling the reason she hasnt announced anything is because they aren't going to do it.
Time will tell though.
@Weebleman PS5 ports are not paying off for the most part, but I'm curious to see what they do with Steam. By exclusivity they mean the Xbox store (console+PC) that will be available not just on Helix, but also on PC. That is what is supposed to compete with Steam, if they decide to partially or completely launch their first-party line-up on their own (overhauled) marketplace. They have announced that they are reconsidering exclusives and will take a data-driven and a strategic-driven approach.
@Banjo- the PS5 ports, forza aside, likely sold less due to the delay. Most folks have either played or moved past them by the time they arrived. Indy is a prime example. Had that launched day and date then I imagine it would have sold far more as the hype train was in full effect.
Regardless though, they basically have the same architecture and are fairly easy to port over. Low sales is not no sales and that means money. Fable for example will likely do very well because it will arrive when marketing is in full flow (and if it carrys the trend from previous ones, it will also be brilliant).
In regard to steam, its 3rd party games that they will lose sales on and there are plenty more of them than first party games. Console makers make far more from those than their own in house titles. Its a big gamble giving your userbase access to a place that will offer more of them, at a cheaper price.
Obviously this is if steam (amongst others more than likely if it is essentially a PC. Epic, GOG, etc...) is available on there, which all signs point to it will be.
Those sales subsidise the consoles. If they aren't there you have an expensive box that cuts yourself out of the loop. So any extra revenue coming in helps with that.
Edit: Plus, they already did exclusives for PC & Xbox. It didnt move the needle. The data on that hasn't changed and the people looking at it will see exactly that. Going back to it isn't going to change that.
@Weebleman Being the biggest publisher, Xbox could and should have a solid PC/console storefront that would still sell tons of third-party games. I mean, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight sold more on Series X|S than on Steam. Of course, Steam is generally the most popular choice for gamers, because PC is huge and Steam has built a community, but that's exactly why Xbox has to find their place there. That doesn't mean that they'll beat Steam, but that they will be successful in the PC/console market. That's also why they need to allow other PC storefronts, because they want Xbox on console and PC, and having (some) Steam users on Xbox Mode will benefit Xbox in the long term.
@Banjo- as I just edited above, they already had that exact thing and It led to their games going multiplatform because it wasn't selling enough of them. What makes you think going back to it will be any different.
@Weebleman I don't know where do you want to go with this conversation/argument, but it's not me, it's them who said that they are reconsidering exclusives and will take a data-driven and a strategic-driven approach. So maybe ask them or tell them what to do?
@Banjo- im not having a pop so please dont think I am. Its just everything you suggest will change the way its going, already happened and it led to where we are now.
They looked at the data, took a strategic approach based on it and went multiplatform.
Lego batman as you say sold more on xbox than steam. It sold even more on PS. The folks who made it benefit most from that. Thats a strategic decision and the data shows that games on all 3 platforms makes more money. I simply dont see MS looking at that and going backwards to appease people when it didnt bring enough to the table in the first place.
On a different note, did you enjoy the fatal frame remake?
Edit: absolutely not an argument my man. Just because we disagree doesn't mean its not a conversation between two folks that enjoy games 🙂
Uhh, that was okay. Saber is working on a new Stuntman, and I feel like that was my biggest takeaway haha. Hey, I'm looking forward to that one!
@Weebleman I'm tired, but before going to sleep, I couldn't resist watching this handy round-up. I watched the Rayman trailer in 4K several times. Some people say it looks bad. I don't know if 4K makes a difference, but I think it looks great. Stuntman Hollywood and Tomb Raider are also on my radar, and I guess I'll wait until Silent Hill comes to Xbox.
On that note, it's difficult to answer because it's one of my biggest requests and it's a niche series that I want to protect, but I also think that it could use a patch to make the frame rate smoother, because it's not really smooth on any console. I hope so, because Koei Tecmo upgraded the last remasters for the current consoles and maybe they even patch this remake for the next-gen consoles. I'm very happy with the graphics and content, though.
Good night!
@Banjo- I thought Rayman looked excellent also. Im looking forward to all those you mentioned. Tomb Raider looked lovely didnt it.
Yeah, im with you on the patch. I love it but it just needs tidying round the edges.
Goodnight sweet prince, happy dreaming.
I got updates on Control: Resonant, and Tomb Raider, those are both exciting. No real surprises though!
Hopefully Geoff gives us the goods!!
Worth mentioning that Dune will be on GamePass day one.
@Kraven For me this was a pretty weak showing. The 1st party games shown were fine but nothing special. Like you, I will end up getting them at some point as I am a sucker for action adventure titles. Out of all the other stuff, I am excited to get my hands on Rayman and Control, but that will not be until the end of the year for me. (trying to be good an not get games day 1 😂)
This SoP felt safe, which is perfectly fine, but I do miss those amazing high moments of the E3's in the past
That was honestly probably one of the best State of Plays in some time and has made me regret not owning a Playstation even more than before.
Wolverine, Until Dawn 2, Silent Hill, The Lost Wild, No rest for the Wicked & Psi-Ops are all games I would absolutely love to play. This show featured a lot of horror games and they were damn near all exclusive to Playstation. 😫
Xbox needs to come out this weekend with an absolute showstopper showcase. Reveal the games, don't show the Playstation logo anywhere on the show & leave that information for blog posts and articles afterwords. The show will be all the better for it.
@FraserG next Xbox will play steam and windows. So it'll be fine
If there’s one game I forgot in the showcase, it’s Dune Awakenings. Surprised to see it as the opening picture here.
Loved Rayman, Kemuri, the new Tomb Raider and The Lost Wilds.
Shame two won’t make it to Xbox.
It was a good show, not the best, but plenty of single player games I want to play.
Biggest complaints were not enough new games announced, and GoW: Faufey, which though it looked excellent, was only “in production”, no date not even 2027.
Still a LOT of games I want to play and most will be available to play soon. That’s enough to keep me more than happy.
Looking forward to Tomb Raider, Onimusha, Stuntman and Rayman.
I'm hoping The Lost Wilds will get a PC release so I can play it on Helix.
GOW Laufey looks epic, shame it's likely years off.
@oopsiezz Did you sell your PS5 Pro?
@themightyant There wont be many single player announced for Sony for many years unfortunately. Its still only been a year or two since they binned about 12-14 live service games that were deep into development
That was the best show I've seen in years. And yes the logo debate is kinda irritating but, after 5 or 6 trailers with only Sony logos each time, I did start thirsting for Sony, ngl. Relieved this morning to see that some of them are cross-plat. Wolverine and God of War looked proper current gen though and made me worry for the Xbox show. Praying The Coalition come through hard!
Dune and stuntman are my favorite ones
@jumpin_jeeps I am a PS only guy and even I have no doubt that Xbox are going to have a banger of a showcase, especially Gears going back to its roots.
I'm hoping for a shadow drop of Halo Campaign Evolved but realistically I reckon that's still coming out end of July as the leaks suggest.
We not getting the dinosaur game 😥
@TDHorizon I keep wondering what a launch lineup will even look like going forward. Or is that a thing of the past?
@jumpin_jeeps We will have to wait and see!
