Control Resonant Early Access Is Exclusive To PS5, But At Least We Get 'Play Anywhere' On Xbox

Sony and 3rd party devs are still doing stupid stuff like this? Thought we moved past this nonsense... Well, make sure you do not pre-order then for Xbox since they hate you and give you less. I'll be waiting for a good sale or Game Pass now.

PC players also won’t be able to get the early access. If Sony paid for this, it’s a low blow. This is one of, if not my most, anticipated games and I have a PS5 along with my Series X. But I won’t be supporting this stupid move. No deluxe edition for me.

Alan Wake 2’s delayed physical release aside, Remedy has a good track record of providing physical editions with at least the full base game on disc. I’m not trading permanent ownership to play a game 2 days early, that’s asinine. Is PS5 exclusive early access ‘unfair’? I guess. Is it irrelevant? Absolutely. If you can’t wait two days for something, it isn’t worth waiting for.

Well it’s £49.99 to buy the game which is a good price for nowadays.
It’s not the £69.99 for wolverine
Or £74.99 for Mario kart world.

Don’t need early access anyway. Also will wait for reviews on this one, especially as September is getting stupidly stacked and we not had the Xbox showcase yet.

They are asking for the same price (or more) on Xbox and favour PS version for two days. I don't know if it's worth the embarrassment.

Back in my day, deluxe edition usually included the first dlc or expansion. Now it's just in-game skins, outfits, trinkets, and tchotchkes.

It's a silly move and will rightly garner bad PR for the game. Which is a shame, because it looks interesting

Third‑party publishers who still play these kinds of little games, it’s ridiculous. Too bad, it just ends up being bad PR for Remedy. On the PlayStation side, they’re still clinging to these micro‑exclusives — that shows their desperation!

48 hours is nothing. That's a bad timed exclusivity deal.

Remedy probably needed the money after Firebreak was a disaster.

Remedy have been pretty open about needing cash so they made a deal with Sony. Im not even mad at it if it helped Remedy make their game. Whats dumb is that it cost the samd. But what I do find weird is that they didnt approach XBOX to have it placed day 1 on GPU in exchange for some advance money. Control is already on GPU so it makes sense.

I would be more excited about Quantum Break 2

It took AW2 15 months to break even for Remedy. So for them to go and pull a stunt like this one, when you actually need every sale on every platform it’s weird to put it mildly.
But we are where we are, and as a potential customer on Xbox I’ll make my choice accordingly.

This is just bizarre, I will be buying it on PS5 but I’ll just get the standard edition, early-access for any game honestly feels like a ripoff.

Playstation does this and then this weekend, Xbox will gladly hand them more games. This is ridiculous.

@Banjo- It has been standard even for the past Remedy games that they would have story DLCs months after the launch. Personally I prefer to play the complete / "Ultimate Edition" rather than the more expensive launch version.

I wonder though how much Sony/PlayStation was actually willing pay for a 2 day exclusivity on a digital deluxe version of a single player game? Usually a 48 hour early access is offered on multiplayer games where players want to get an early edge over other players. In this case the early access only helps with story spoilers.

I bought a 4080 after playing a few hours in AW2 because I wanted to play it maxed out. The videocard came with a code for AW2. Now I'm running a 5080. I still haven't completed AW2. LOL

Control Resonant is not multiplayer and it's not one of the most anticipated games of the year either, regardless of its quality. I don't know how much Remedy got from Sony, but I don't think it was much nor it was worth it for Remedy and Sony, because of the negative PR and because Sony fans would have bought it on PS, anyway.

This is what Sony have been reduced to as next to no devs are selling exclusive rights these days

You posted news that the PS5 (this is an Xbox website) has early access (two days) to a game and Xbox doesn't? Is this a joke? lol. This game will be trash. Hard pass. This website is getting to be the same.

I loved both Alan wake games didn't like control at all!
But I hope this does very well so I get more Alan wake games😊
Most likely remedy got a decent sum to make this early access exclusive to playstation I don't blame them personally it's a trivial perk too most and free money for them why not??
The Xbox population is by far smaller than playstation they can get these things.
In reality it's nothing.

Am I in the minority here over being nonplussed about the 2 days of early access? In the scheme of things, that's nothing. Even if you're paying the same amount for the XSX vs PS5 version. It's 48 hours

It's a dumb move by Sony to do this and the people who go "who cares" are likely the same people that got mad when Shadow of the Tomb Raider had a year exclusivity on Xbox before Playstation. It's something that shouldn't even be a thing.

I'm surprised anyone ever sees 48 hour early access and gets excited. These games rarely come out of the gate at their best anymore. And in a years time, the DDE will be 50% off. Early access ain't gonna mean much then.

I'm not trying to downplay it, just.. who really jumps for these early access releases when it takes months for modern games to even be at their best?

2 days 'early' access that will be 'worthless' to ANYONE after that date or anyone who isn't interested in pre-ordering or playing it 2 days before it goes on sale to EVERYONE. Games are NEVER at their best on release day, let alone 2 days earlier. Bugs always exist and patches will come, let alone additional content/features added post launch. Early players are Play-testers to find the bugs/glitches/issues in the 'real' world and/or with thousands/millions of 'real' players rather than a handful in controlled environment.

Play Anywhere will still benefit Xbox/PC gamers for months after it releases and when the game is cheap on sale. A few days early access is NO incentive to buy after its general release day and is a 'free' way to encourage pre-orders. The game is ready to release and often released to reviewers so its no 'cost' to the Publisher and they may 'gain' a few extra pre-orders - therefore a no-cost to publisher/dev offer to incentivise pre-ordering. Its not like they had to pay to make something exclusively for those who pre-order.

If one can’t go without spending more money for the sake of playing a game a couple days earlier than normal, ESPECIALLY knowing how bugridden most games are at launch these days…it kinda sounds like one has larger issues in one’s life than games in the first place. Maybe don’t spend more money to be an unpaid bug tester and just…wait?

@Deadlyblack Hypocritically, they get mad at Xbox for releasing a first-party bundle with additional content and 4-day early access, but if Sony pays a third party for timed exclusivity or early access, no problem!

That doesn't change the early access thing, but it does arguably make the Standard Edition a better buy on Xbox compared to PS5, as you get a free PC version thrown in at no extra charge.

Yeah, Play Anywhere is a winner and it will only get better.

I'm totally ok with two days of delay. I'm not fine, however, with a 6-year delay (I'm looking at you, Square Enix).

Tbf the folks over at PS seem a bit miffed by it as well.

It reminds me a lot of when Xbox locked down timed on the next gen patch for Like a Dragon. Both very cloak and dagger and rather odd choices.

Can understand timed exclusivity on a game or on DLC (even though I don't like it) but this doesn't even make much business sense to me for how long the window is.
