A few weeks ago, we mentioned how Xbox's Hellblade 2 had received more nominations than any other game at the BAFTA Game Awards for 2025, so it's a little disappointing to see that it only took home one of those awards today.
That award is for Technical Achievement, with Hellblade 2 beating Astro Bot, Black Myth: Wukong, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Tiny Glade and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 in the process, so it outlasted some strong competition!
Elsewhere, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Sea Of Thieves also appeared on the nominations for various categories, but unfortunately couldn't win any awards on the night. Here's the full list of winners courtesy of BAFTA:
- Animation: Astro Bot
- Artistic Achievement: Neva
- Audio Achievement: Astro Bot
- Best Game: Astro Bot
- British Game: Thank Goodness You're Here!
- Debut Game: Balatro
- Evolving Game: Vampire Survivors
- Family: Astro Bot
- Game Beyond Entertainment: Tales of Kenzera: Zau
- Game Design: Astro Bot
- Multiplayer: Helldivers 2
- Music: Helldivers 2
- Narrative: Metaphor: ReFantazio
- New IP: Still Wakes The Deep
- Performer In A Leading Role: Still Wakes The Deep
- Performer In A Supporting Role: Still Wakes The Deep
- Technical Achievement: Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2
As you can see, although Xbox might not have won many first-party awards at the BAFTAs this year, plenty of third-party games on Xbox did, including the likes of Balatro, Vampire Survivors, Metaphor: ReFantazio and Still Wakes The Deep.
If you're interested, the full list of nominees is still available on the official BAFTA website as well.

I'm not too worried about it. Most of these awards (Academy, Emmy etc) are more about what the committee happen to like at any given moment rather than a comprehensive analysis of which games (or movies or tv shows etc) have excelled above their peers.
Technical Achievement ain't nothin' to shake a stick at, as my late grandmammy used to say.
Glad to see Still Wakes the Deep FINALLY get recognised for it's acting, though it's writing also deserves a nom. It just sounds like real human dialogue compared to most games 'scripts'.
Let’s be honest what did any of the big three really release last year that was up to their old standards.
Sony jumped in at the end of the year with Astro Bot which took 5 awards and has done well.
But last year wasn’t a big vintage top end AAA year from any of them really.
Not when you look back at say Forza Horizon 5, TOTK and God of War R.
Noticed I picked one from each with past big quality AAA games to keep all things even.
Hopefully this year will perk up a bit with something massive from each of them.
Ghost of T 2
Mario kart world
Xbox I’m not sure, was probably Fable.
Fable won't be out this year, @OldGamer999. 2026 is my bet. Doom is likely to be the biggest and best that Microsoft gaming release this year. However, when it comes to the awards for next year, I expect Mario Kart will be the talk of the town (despite it holding no interest whatsoever for me!)...
Xbox got it's headline with most announcements. From these awards I really would like to see an equal spread for deserved achievement and I was gonna say it's a diverse list, but Astro bot won so many awards 😂. T'would be nice if it were like one award per game. But whatever. It's crazy because there are so many games in any given year. I wonder how actually everything is narrowed down. Or even if it is. Like how many great games are just forgotten or missed for not being more well known? 😢
Anyway, the most surprising for me is Vampire Survivors.
@Fiendish-Beaver it sounds like Xbox needs to release Forza Horizon 6 this year 😒 (if only 😂)
Its not harsh at all, they could be nominated for every award and win none if the panels things otherwise, it how things work.
@WildConcept6 T'would be nice if it were like one award per game. This just sounds like participation awards and would make the whole thing pointless. It would also make some awards more important than others if you could only appear in one category.
A more important award from people who actually know about gaming was on the 19th of last month.
'Balatro' dominated the Game Developers Choice Awards, taking home Game of the Year and Best Debut alongside Best Design and the Innovation award.
