The Call of Duty machine never stops, and today, fresh details about this year's entry in the series have emerged courtesy of Insider Gaming. The reputable outlet has put out a new report that focuses on developer Treyarch going all-in on Zombies mode - with six maps planned; set in some "out there" locations.
The report says that these six maps will be spread across the game's life cycle - so we probably shouldn't expect to see all of them on day one. However, we can expect to see some familiar faces here - IG claims that the original Zombies cast is "likely making a return" in this year's game.
"Insider Gaming has learned that Call of Duty 2025, which will be led by Treyarch Games, could have a total of six round-based zombies maps during the games lifecycle. Details of what Call of Duty 2025 is shaping up to be is already an open secret, including that the game is a Black Ops 2 sequel and that the original zombies crew is likely making a return."
As you can see in the above quote there - it's looking like this year's Call of Duty game will be tied to the fan-favourite Black Ops 2 in some way, which is a rumour we've heard a few times now. If Treyarch is indeed leading development on COD 2025, we'd expect it to be a 'stop-gap' title of sorts - similar to 2023's Modern Warfare 3 which came to be in a very short time frame.
The report closes out by discussing some of the game's more "out there" Zombies locations, which may or may not make it into the full release. The team has reportedly been messing around with levels set in post-WW2 New York, a Japanese temple, Vietnam, Afghanistan and a space station. Of course, this year's COD game is expected to feature campaign and multiplayer modes too - all of which we should learn about officially in the coming months.
Liking the sound of this, folks? Tell us if you'll be playing COD 2025 down below.

I thought they were spacing these out to be 2 years per game?
Treyarch are the best in the CoD cycle of devs, so even if this is a filler year, with them at the helm, it should be pretty damn solid!
Got back into COD Campaign and Zombies this year and enjoying due to GPU of course.
How every gamer or general public have not seen the GPU value since the end of last year and now, I will never know.
Think Xbox should buy Ubisoft very soon so I get Assassin’s creed shadows and Farcry 7 on GPU.
@Trmn8r They are! The interview you saw and or article about the interview showed and said it would start from the 2026 COD going forward.
Been saying it for... well forever at this point, but they should just bite the bullet and make a CoD zombies game.
@Deshalu I must've missed that part. I thought it was starting right after Blops 6.
If they don't bring back 4 player split screen, I'll skip it and stick to Black Ops 4. Like I have the last few.
@Trmn8r no cause Phil Spencer and somebody else from Activision talks about this black ops is gonna be more of what modern warfare 3 was to modern warfare 2. Kind of a glorified DLC.
It’s supposed to be Sledgehammer or Infinity Ward is doing the 2026 call of duty that’s supposed to be the first of the two year cycle.
There will still be a call of duty every year. It’ll just trade off between Treyarch sledgehammer and infinity Ward.
Raven software will still do Warzone
I want another Modern Warfare, I can't stand Black Ops 6.
I loved Cold War and MW2 and MW3.
But Black Ops 6 not, small maps the whole time with high speed running and jumping.
I'm tired.
I just want a semi-serious arcade mil sim, like it used to be, led by IW. No zombies or weird stuff and no Fortnite crap. I’d pay for a setting to display mil sim skins instead of weird stuff.
@EightyTwoStu call me biased but i still think no modern COD game is better than any of the ones on xbox360
Modern Warfare 2
Black ops 1 & 2
World at War
it was just a different & better era man
