Following three fresh additions to the Xbox Series X|S dynamic background collection earlier this month, Microsoft has added another new entry - and it features some pretty iconic Xbox characters for the company's 50th anniversary.
Yep, live now on Xbox Series X and S consoles, the 50th anniversary background features Master Chief, Marcus Fenix, Doom Slayer, Ghost, Lilith and more massive characters from Microsoft's growing list of IP - including Bethesda and ActiBlizz titles of course.
Interestingly, as the full background image up above shows, this particular addition seems to actually take into account the dashboard's layout. Microsoft has clearly left some space for its dashboard tiles at the bottom - here's a look at how it appears on the Xbox home screen:
I must admit, this new dynamic background looks pretty nice when it's all applied, and I might have to rock it for a bit and see if I can actually stick to using one of these for a while. Having said that, prying me away from that beautiful Split Fiction theme will be a tough task.

I usually praise MS for their dynamic backgrounds, but this looks like something my 9 year old could do with MS Paint...
And still no gears of war one 😂 I bet, the fact that Microsoft own the franchise and the studio blows my mind 🤯.
I hope they do one for Doom The Dark Ages, also the doom slayer and terror billy from wolfenstein not being optional profil pics or backgrounds is a crying shame.

It looks disgraceful for a dynamic background celebrating 50 years with mostly things they bought in the last couple years kinda crap!
The majority of these 'dynamic' backgrounds are not very impressive and verging on lame.
The animated wallpaper that came to Andriod eons ago looks better...
Is there an Xbox OS limit on available resources or something?
The recent Shattered Space one is so bad with that ZX Spectrum like spaceship bumping it's way across the screen.
It seems they even celebrated it by using Copilot to make that background 💀
@IOI Ai is all every tech company cares about these days as its the buzz word. The amount of crap they try and sell you with copilot now is mind boggling.
@GeeForce Hey! A ZX Spectrum like dynamic background would be awesome! MS own Ulitimate so we could have some really nice backgrounds, My namesake included.
Iconic XBOX characters ? I guess an “Xbox exclusive” wallpaper would be a empty background by now.

Lol, yeah Ultimate (Play the Game). Spent many hours (days, months!) playing their games. Enjoyed revisiting many of them on Rare Replay, have you played that?
Nice try Microsoft, but the Split Fiction theme is just too good to replace for now!
I love that they included Raz though! Psychonauts 2 is the best first party XSX game in my opinion.
This looks kinda lame. I just stick with the original Xbox background, it's the only one I really like.
@GeeForce Yeah most of the animated backgrounds are really disappointing, just minimal animation on a lot of them.
Well the good thing is that the dynamic backgrounds are free. The not so great thing is that there is a limited selection of backgrounds. But apparently the ps5 doesn't have dynamic backgrounds, at least that is what I heard.
