Remember a few years back when Platinum Games' Scalebound just wouldn't die? The cancelled Xbox exclusive kept cropping up in conversation thanks to recurring rumours and remarks from Platinum staff - and now the game's original lead has brought the Xbox title up once again.
These days, Hideki Kamiya has formed his own studio — Clovers Inc. — but that isn't stopping the former Platinum dev from talking about Scalebound. This week, his new studio posted a clip of him "reminiscing about the development of Scalebound" - which Kamiya himself reposted, alongside a cheeky "let's do it, Phil!" message.
Hideki Kamiya: "Let's do it, Phil! "
Of course, Kamiya is referring to Head of Xbox Phil Spencer there - probably with a very slim hope that the Xbox boss would see his message and consider reviving the game again. However, with the amount of times this sort of thing has happened in recent years — and Phil's apparent lack of interest — the last thing we have on our Xbox bingo cards for 2025 is bringing Scalebound back to life.
Even so, it's interesting that Kamiya is still bringing this up even when he's moved on from the original developer. Would he have to start from scratch nowadays? Would Kamiya & co. even have the rights to work on it? Would Xbox just go back to Platinum if this ever happened? Honestly, who knows - but we certainly wouldn't hold our breath waiting for Scalebound to come back, even with this new social media message from Kamiya.
Who expected to still be talking about Scalebound on Xbox in 2025? Tell us of your disappointment down below.

Haha, I get the feeling that in 300 years time, someone will somewhere still be bringing this game up!
I'd love to see it happen next gen. Would be huge.
Always felt like they bit off more than they could chew, especially the co-op aspect which wasn't Platinum's forte. But the ideas on show are still as interesting today as they were then. Fighting giant monsters even from the back of a Dragon. If not Scalebound, perhaps a spiritual successor from someone... although Crimson Desert might already fit this shoe.
I really liked the idea and concept - although the co-op aspect didn't appeal at all. The idea of having a Dragon Sidekick in an Action game appeals.
The XB1 wasn't a 'great' piece of Hardware with 'weak' CPU and GPU - even for that time which I think was more of an issue with realising the Ambition and Scale. It also didn't have the best Data Transfer so Open Worlds may have had too much pop-in and/or frame rate/visual quality issues that may have been part of the struggle in getting their ambition over the finishing line.
I do think that modern Hardware and game engines may be the Answer to finishing the project and it being of 'presentable' and 'Marketable' standards - its just whether or not MS trust and/or have faith in the studio to 'back' it again.
Really wanted this game to get released. Would love them to go back to it and try to get it to work. Even just a single player experience would be great.
I wish they would this game would be amazing
I miss the days when I had to play Platinum Games' past titles in order to enjoy this game.
Do it Phil! If he manages to do it, a lot of the bad press will leave for a while
@themightyant Always felt that the online co-op aspect was what made the game get canned. They if they revive it, it should be single player only
