So, the bad news is that Assassin's Creed Shadows is not available on Xbox Game Pass at launch, but the good news is that you don't have to pay full price if you want to try it on day one.
This is thanks to Ubisoft Plus, which allows you to pick up a month's subscription to the service for £14.99 / $17.99 and receive the Assassin's Creed Shadows Deluxe Edition for 30 days when it launches on March 20th, along with all the other 60+ games in the Ubisoft Plus catalogue on Xbox.
Alternatively, as we've covered elsewhere on Pure Xbox, Ubisoft Plus is running a 40% discount on 12-month subscriptions right now on the Xbox Store, allowing you to pick up a year's worth of access to the game (along with all the others) at a decent price.
It's not impossible that Assassin's Creed Shadows might come to Xbox Game Pass in the future like some other Ubisoft titles, but we're assuming it'll be at least a year before that happens, if not longer.
In terms of whether it's worth the money, our resident reviewer PJ O'Reilly went hands on with the game recently for Pure Xbox and found it to be "an incredibly atmospheric, and deliciously dark slice of Assassin's Creed". The reviews have been impressive as well, so I'm personally eager to give it a try and see what it's like!
Don't forget that Microsoft Rewards can come in really handy for situations like this - if you have any spare points collecting dust, you can redeem them for an Xbox Gift Card and then use that towards Ubisoft Plus. With any luck, you'll be able to complete the game in 30 days and won't even need to wait for it to come to Xbox Game Pass!

Ubisoft+ doesn't refund like Game Pass does in the first month in Australia. I burned 2x month subs trying and re-trying the dud Star Wars Outlaws with Ubi+. But Ubi+'s Starlink Battle for Atlas turned out to be a solid fun 7-8/10, and that's worth at least USD 18.
PS: This article is really useful also, thanks Fraser. The "Try before you buy" or "Sub for a single-playthrough, which is all you'll ever do for 7/10 games" is best practice.
But it's not a real assassin's creed game though...
I did this after it released. Played shadow, mirage, avatar, skull and bones. So £100 of games for £15.
@JaffeGaffe Please specify what makes something an AC game?
