The team behind Tales of the Shire: A Lord of The Rings Game has announced that the LOTR title needs another delay to be properly ready for launch. Previously planned to arrive next month, Tales of the Shire is now set to release for Xbox Series X|S on July 29th, 2025.
Developer Wētā Workshop took to social media to reveal the news earlier this week, where it told fans "we appreciate your patience and cannot wait for you to experience life in The Shire this summer". Here's the team's full message:
"Dear Fellow Hobbits,
A good Hobbit feast takes time, and so does Tales of the Shire! We're taking a little longer to ensure that every Hobbit, on every platform, can enjoy the same cosy experience. The game will now launch on 29th July 2025.
We want this game to feel like a warm hug from Middle-earth, and we are making sure that no matter where you play, you'll feel right at home in The Shire. From foot-hair styles to the fluffiest cakes, every detail will be just right.
We appreciate your patience and cannot wait for you to experience life in The Shire this summer. In the meantime, arrange the table, polish your silver and get ready for a feast fit for a Hobbit!
Looking forward to welcoming you to Bywater.
From the folks at Wētā Workshop Game Studio"
In Tales of the Shire, you'll create your own Hobbit and spend your days customising your home and looking after your garden - as well as cooking, fishing and exploring the town of Bywater as you progress through the game's story. To bring this 'Hobbit Sim' to life, the team needs those extra few months to polish things up.

Before someone complains, it was delayed on all consoles.
ill happily wait without compliant this ones been on my wish list for a while!! i cannot wait for it
Take as long as you need imo. This game, despite the few issues people took with the trailer, could be pretty huge. A life sim set in this (already) lore-rich universe. Day one for me.
@Lup Yep! As the quote says. We just like to get Xbox in the heading 😅
@Kaloudz
After a few games last year that released with bad quality reviews SW outlaws etc, we seem slowly to be getting back to delays and releasing games of better quality and that is what should definitely happen.
@OldGamer999 Agreed 100%. I've never been a fan of release now and fix later. This game up your street too? I've got that old Stardew Valley itch and this seems to be the right thing to scratch it.
I just hope it has a decent save system. I spent dozens of hours in Coral Island and it wiped my save 😭
Yet, another example, if Six Month Rule was followed. This would not even be an issue.
I'm only in if it includes the scouring of the shire.
@Lup my complaint was actually what it always is: that's not the title of the game.
