Ubisoft's 2019 shooter Far Cry New Dawn is now live on Xbox Game Pass, and the developer has also dropped its new performance patch alongside this XGP arrival. The good news is that the new 60FPS update looks very smooth on both Xbox Series X and S, and we'll include some footage of the game running on both systems here.
Up above we've got some Xbox Series X gameplay, where Far Cry New Dawn seemingly hits a smooth 4K / 60FPS update on Microsoft's more powerful console. We'll also throw some Xbox Series S footage down at the bottom of this article - Ubisoft has opted for 1080p / 60FPS on that particular machine.
If you're more interested in what New Dawn's spin-off storyline brings to the table, here's a quick introduction your latest Xbox Game Pass arrival:
"Dive into a transformed vibrant post apocalyptic Hope County, Montana, 17 years after a global nuclear catastrophe. Join fellow survivors and lead the fight against the dangerous new threat the Highwaymen, and their ruthless leaders The Twins, as they seek to take over the last remaining resources."
For what it's worth, we think this one is absolutely worth a look as a Game Pass member, especially after Ubisoft's new performance figures. Far Cry New Dawn got a bit of a mixed reception back at launch, but if you manage expectations about this being a spin-off rather than a new mainline entry, New Dawn has plenty of open-world FPS shenanigans for players to enjoy.
Who's planning on trying out Far Cry New Dawn, then? Tell us if you are down below!

Is this any different to every other far cry game or is it the same stuff as usual it's one thing I can't stand about ubisoft games just the same game with a different coat of paint!
I'll give it a download but if it's the same base clearing tower climbing that have been in the game since farcry 2 I'm out!
@Isolte Wouldn't be for me so I only enjoyed blood dragon and fc3 but seems the games formula hasn't changed in the years since maybe it's just me but they basically are all the same game!
But great for those who enjoy the game a 4k 60fps update is always nice!
Yeah, I'll give it a go once I've finished shooting nazi balls.
Nice upgrade. I’ve been playing on Series X this morning and to my eye it looks sharper than it was (with FPS boost) and no frame drops. Not sure if it is 4K or 4K with dynamic res - although it looks fine it is obviously an older title so some of the details are not as good as you’d see in a new release.
Gameplay - yep, there will be the usual copy & paste criticism of Ubisoft games being copy and paste (there’s something beautifully ironic about that) but this is a decent FPS. If you like FC5 then consider this a smaller but enjoyable (and standalone) expansion.
Also worth knowing that it now ‘Gen 9 aware’ - so there’s no need to run it off internal SSD or expansion card, it works just fine off an external SSD.
Goes to show you need a this generation console to run a last generation game at its best and full potential.
And the same with games this generation will run better on next generation when patched.
My point, why they don’t just stay in the limitations of the current generation for 4K 60 fps on consoles and keep each generation within its best game limits.
Played the game last night XSX, runs so smooth and looks very good at native 4K.
@Feffster
Came here to mention the same thing. Thankfully, all of the new Ubisoft patches so far have been XboxGen9Aware rather than full blown "Smart Delivery" releases (I still strongly maintain that the user should be able to choose which version they want to play, Series S|X memory is so gosh darn limited even with the biggest expansion card).
Being able to play these releases from a regular SSD is the best of both worlds and I wish more publishers would go this route.

That's like talking about a Soulslike and saying "is this the same attacking, blocking/parrying and rolling as always with the same respawning of enemies all the time"? 🤣
It's Far Cry, you blow ***** up. Not the one to play if you want good story.
And the last Far Cry game with towers was 4.
@Lup I know your right about souls games but I enjoy them and the far cry games just feel to similar to me and bore me but loads of people enjoy them personally preference and all that ha!
I downloaded this last week as I saw the news but didn't notice any difference. Tried it again today and yes i see the difference now. (Must have been a delay in updating) Is smoother and faster does look kinda new and modern now. Good job done! I'm playing it on series S
I'll be getting this tonight. I always strayed away from it (after the fantastic Far Cry 5) as I heard it was pretty crappy, but after learning that it's still pretty much a Far Cry game (and seeing as though Far Cry 6 was garbage) I'll be enjoying this after all.
@Ricky-Spanish
It's Far Cry 5 with RPG elements
I´ve only dabbled in the FC-franchise. I quite liked FC5. Something about sabotaging and dismantling a cult of American right-wing a-holes forcing their nonsense onto everyone else seemed appropriate at the time of the games release.
Overall, the social commentary was heavily neutered - but I expected that from Ubisoft, and I enjoyed it for what it was. Bounced off of the sequel pretty quickly though. Maybe I´ll give it another chance with these improvements?
