Ahead of an upcoming network test hosted by FromSoftware, the Japanese developer has announced its release date for Elden Ring Nightreign. The multiplayer spin-off to 2022 mega-hit Elden Ring comes to Xbox on May 30th, with pre-orders now live for the upcoming title.
Nightreign is another cross-gen release from the team, meaning Xbox One and Series X|S players can get stuck into this experience in just a few short months. Here's how FromSoft describes its new Elden Ring adventure:
"ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN is a standalone adventure within the ELDEN RING universe, crafted to offer players a new gaming experience by reimagining the game’s core design."
Join forces with other players to take on the creeping night and the dangers within featuring 3-player co-op.
Take command of uniquely skilled heroes, each possessing their own abilities and distinct flair. While individually formidable, their skills create powerful synergies when they unite as a team.
Overcome a relentless environmental threat that sweeps through a land that changes between each game session and defeat the magnificent boss of that night!"
This latest extension to the Elden Ring saga follows on from last year's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, which was just as well-loved as the main game itself. Nightreign is a standalone experience this time around though - meaning players don't need to own the base game to enjoy it.
Elden Ring Nightreign slashes its way onto Xbox consoles on May 30th, 2025.

I was hoping to play this on Friday I got accepted to the beta but got was one of the unlucky few who got a wrong code to download the game they sent me a code for the game on playstation so I'm waiting to get my new one hopefully before Friday please God 🙏
@Ricky-Spanish same here. Took one look at the code and realised there’d been a mistake, then got the email to confirm that they were aware of the issue and working on it. Still no new code yet though.
@ChopperCampbell Same for me no new code yet hopefully by tomorrow it will be sorted it's not like we are getting much time to play the beta so don't wanna miss that first 3hr session to play!!
I'm not sure this game will be for me as it seems that the focus is more on the co-op than on the solo adventurer. That's a real shame as I loved Elden Ring. Indeed, I have the Collector's Editions of both Elden Ring and the Erd Tree, and have all 3 Collector's Editions of the books too...
I'm so confused by this game. Is it essentially Elden Ring 2 (in regards to gameplay) or is it a totally different feeling game. I just don't understand what this is suppose to be. I nuked ER via begging for help through multiplayer, so if it's like that, I'm in.
@Kaloudz It's a totally different game in the Elden universe with some dark souls mixed in with co-op you have classes to choose from but I don't know how many I love the games so I can't wait to try it!
@Ricky-Spanish Thanks dude. Will the gameplay be the same? (Hard, but doable if you hide behind someone that is better lol). Open world exploration etc.. ? Even though it's a smaller world size.
@Kaloudz Yeah it will still be hard not as much exploration as before you have 3 days and nights to explore level up I suppose possibly fight smaller bosses and every night the map gets smaller changes and the last night you all fight the proper boss and each time your play the map will be different and the bosses change.
A full game with getting to the main boss after 3 nights should take about 40 they say.
That's the jest of it from what I know and remember haha 😂
Hopefully I can play Friday and I'll tell you the full experience 💆
@Ricky-Spanish I'll be here with open ears mate. I loved Elden Ring (and Wo-Long) and have been dying to try something similar since. I do own the full Dark Souls 3 game, but I've never loaded it up as I heard it's so so hard, and lacks the same ability to call for help - such as Elden Ring.
If Elden Ring 2 can pull it off, I'll pick it up. I must say though, I'm a sucker for stepping off the beaten path and exploring nooks and crannies, so that's a big thing for me if the sequel allows that, albeit on a smaller scale.
@Kaloudz Dark Souls 3 is awesome (as are the other two) but can be quite tricky at some points. There is a summon system which is similar to Elden Ring, so if you have a co-op partner you can play through together. Only issue with random summons at boss fights is that there are far less people playing now, so chances of a decent partner will have decreased since launch.
Man they are doi g everythi g in their power to make me not want to play it. Roguelite and only being able to play alone or with 2 randoms is such a bad idea. What makes the souls games so amazing is their hand crafted nature. Also coop its either 3 or nothing what ki d of bs is that? C'mon now. People modded elden ring so you can play together. You're telling me a handful of people can do what a big company cant? I just hope taht all who get it have fun and get a wonderful experience. I'll be waiting for the next offering.
@ChopperCampbell Thanks man. I looked and apparently the "look for group" thing on Xbox is still fairly okay (34 at the time of this post) so hopefully I can scavenge at least someone high level to carry my lame backside through when I get round to it haha.
@Kaloudz If you have a friend that will play dark souls 3 co-op you can use a co-op passcode so that you get matched together and the summons sign appear easier that's how I helped my friend beat the game years ago I can't really remember exactly how you do it you would have to Google it but it makes co-op easier because your summons sign will only appear for a player with the same code used I love all the dark souls games ha
@Fiendish-Beaver no co-op? Don't you still religiously play horde?
@Ricky-Spanish Thank for that buddy. Since speaking to you about it I've been reading around and it's actually not as hardcore as I was lead to believe. I'll definitely need help on bosses but I'll probably make this my post-AC Shadows game.
@Kaloudz Glad to help I'm gonna download it myself and play again only beat it the once years ago and talking about it has me wanting to play it again!
Happy gaming✌️
I do, @Jenkinss, every single weekend. However, I usually only play with one friend as a duo, with 3 bots to make up the team. I never play with people I do not know, and none of my friends play any game that is remotely Souls-like, thus I wouldn't want to play this game with people I don't know...
@ChopperCampbell Did you get your proper code yet??
I'm still waiting 🤷
@Ricky-Spanish still waiting too. Even went to the website we originally signed up on to see if a new code was somewhere under My Account (or whatever they call it) but couldn’t find anything.
@ChopperCampbell Ah sure hopefully we hear something before tomorrow they cutting it a bit thin had everything sorted so I had nothing to do but play that in the morning I'll let u know if I get the code 🤞
@Ricky-Spanish I’ll update you if I hear anything too
@ChopperCampbell Still nothing for me buddy 2 hours till the beta starts and no code hopefully you get better luck mate 👍
@Ricky-Spanish no joy either unfortunately. Did get an email apologising and saying they were still working on delivering the correct key. Given it’s now the weekend I’ve zero expectation that a code will be forthcoming.
@ChopperCampbell Just checked there I got the same email not to hopefully myself but sure what can you do 🤷
It seems nobody was able to play a proper game anyways on ps or Xbox the servers kept kicking everyone out to the main menu so we didn't miss out on to much we were saved the frustration of that at least 😂
@Ricky-Spanish Got my code at 01:38am. Too bad the email notification woke me five hours early for the day shift, I’ll see if I can keep my eyes open long enough after work to give it a try.
@ChopperCampbell Yeah got mine aswell mate hopefully get to play a bit tonight if the kids don't act up hope you enjoy buddy 👍
