Today, we're seeing fresh reports of another Call of Duty title heading to Xbox Game Pass, although we're not sure of the exact nature of this drop right now. First mentioned by XboxEra and then corroborated by Insider Gaming, the original Modern Warfare 2 is apparently coming to the service in March or April of this year, although there's a few different versions of the game that this could be.
While the reports clarify that this is not 2022's Modern Warfare 2, it could be either the 2009 original or the game's campaign remaster from 2020. Both outlets mention this campaign remaster in their reporting, but neither can confirm whether it's that release or the Xbox 360 version at this time.
The original source actually mentions prominent leaker eXtas1s in its reporting as well. Back in December, the well-known Xbox insider mentioned that a Call of Duty game was coming to the Game Pass service in the coming months.
Here at Pure Xbox, we don't have any extra information to add to this reporting other than sheer logic, but to us, it would make sense for this to be the 2020 campaign remaster. The Xbox 360 original is still rife with hackers these days, and it'd be odd for Microsoft to start its mission of bringing classic COD over to Game Pass with solely the original Modern Warfare sequel. There's also the fact that ActiBlizz seemingly wants to keep its online playerbase playing recent Call of Duty titles, which adds further reasoning for this to be the campaign remaster.
While none of this information is confirmed for now, we're seeing enough sources reporting on this to expect that it's likely to happen in some form in the coming months. We'll just have to wait for an official Game Pass announcement closer to the time to confirm which version of Modern Warfare 2 this is!

Drip drip drip!
It will be nice to play the multiplayer on this again I say it will be packed the first week or so hopefully they give us all the map packs aswell.
I reckon it'll be the campaign remaster. They wouldn't want to splinter their own audience away from the current multiplayer product
I would love them to remaster MW3 as they did MW1 and MW2, it's weird that they remastered two in the trilogy but didn't finish the ongoing story.
The best one if original 😎
@kevinm360 I also think it's the 2020 remaster for the same reasons you mentioned. This remaster is very well done and still looks like a 2024 - 2025 title, with Activision always being ahead technically and graphically.
There's no way this will be the multiplayer. They wont stagger their userbase so soon after the release of the latest CoD. I reckon it will be campaign (which will be nice, but baffles me as to why they don't release MW1 Remastered first?).
Nice if we start getting older CoDs and this one is awesome. But why not MW1 first?
It’s crazy that PS5 players are getting Halo before Game Pass gets old Call of Duty’s.
@IOI lol you managed to spin it. Props man
I hope its a remastered campaign of mw2. Its one of the best in the series.
this was the fortnite of my generation 😂 THE GOAT!
There must be a very complex agreement made behind closed doors if you look at the timetable and release schedule for those old COD titles. It is outright shocking to see that only a few games made it to gamepass up until now.
@Sol76 I see 0 reasons to not put a bunch of older COD games. Not a single active MP player will quit BO6 to play older titles esp since BP is only on the BO6 now.
Most people will just play couple of hours for nostalgia and thats it.
Kinda dont see a big risk for MS.
The only rational idea I have for these cod into GP delays is they are holding off to cover for months where they wont have major releases in GP.
Lets say there is no manor titles in June 2025, so here you go we are adding all BO series or something like that.
Be cool for the original MW2 to be brought onto Game Pass and would give the servers a boost probably only for short time but it’s more likely to be the single player remaster in my opinion.
I didn't even realise there was a remaster of MW2. I'd only heard about the first game where it was only bundled with a special edition of the newest title people didn't want because Activision resent their customers.
