Anyone fancy a new Xbox controller to start the year? Microsoft has unveiled one today in the form of the Pulse Cipher Special Edition, which follows on from the Sky Cipher and Ghost Cipher editions that were released last year.
Obviously the big difference is the blood-red colour scheme that leaves a striking impression at first glance, and we're pretty big fans of it! Everything else is as standard - all the usual features that you get with official Xbox controllers.
"Like its predecessors, Sky Cipher and Ghost Cipher, Pulse Cipher provides players with a nostalgic transparent look infused with a futuristic twist. Despite being third in the series, this controller is special in its own right."
"Players can catch a glimpse of the silver midframe through the red transparent top case to reveal the mysteries found within. This vibrant design and colorway make a bold statement where modern gaming meets enduring nostalgia."
If you're interested in grabbing one of these, pre-orders begin today for Xbox's Pulse Cipher Special Edition controller over on the Microsoft Store website in select markets, with the price coming in at £69.99 / $74.99 USD.
The official release date is February 4th, so perhaps it'd make a perfect Valentine's Day gift for later in the month!

They need to release more games and less controllers. 2 of my special controllers have unusable drift and YouTube didn't help. I'll have to take them apart or try out that one repair center mentioned in a previous article. Wish they'd stand behind their quality and offer paid repairs behind the warranty.
Wow a new see through controller and it's red this time so amazing!!
If they could make one that doesn’t give me hand cramps, that would be swell. Used every controller under the sun from 8-bit onward and never had this issue with anything but the series controller. My Xbox one controller finally got stick drift, so now I use an excellent but wired controller.
Love it, shame that due to the pile of drifting Xbox pads I won't buy any that doesn't have hall effect sticks.
I'm quite content with the out-the-box controller that came with the XSS. I have slight stick drift but I'm holding out for the next controller I keep seeing news about. Wasn't there someone doing something with a digital screen on the front?
@abe_hikura Stick drift? I have that on my XSS controller. Never really bothered me but when Blops 6 implemented the Red Light Green Light mode from SG, I stood no chance.
@Kaloudz that is kinda like doibit in real life with angry squirrels in your trousers.
That's the thing with stick drift it's not a issue, until your playing just the right game for it to be annoying lol
@abe_hikura Sorry mate, what does doibit stand for? I'm out of touch with the modern lingo. 😅
And that's exactly right. I can just about play FPS but third person becomes annoying when the camera constantly tries pointing to the ceiling 😭 I'll have to see if there's a DIY fix.
@Kaloudz no slang just phone keyboard updating to be slightly off. Was supposed to be "Doing it"
From what I can tell the only DIY fix is replacing the whole stick module... that said my friend has a rubber band connecting the stick to his little finger that's just the right tension to keep the stick slightly off-center. Seems to work for him, though he dose have to take it off to restore blood flow lol
@abe_hikura I was almost going to try that until I read the blood flow part 🤣🤣 I'm surprised really because I am not a heavy handed gamer and this is my stick drift. I'm guessing it's common for the current gen controllers?
I LOL'd at the keyboard malfunction. Spellcheck is so reliable ain't it? I once sent a mass email with "kind regards" at the foot. Spellcheck found it prudent to alter that to "I'm desired"...
The embarrassment..
@Kaloudz yeah apprently it's the mechanical part of modules. if they get dropped, clicked at a slightly weird angle, the pad gets left face down, too warm, too cold or basically anything and they just drift.
The hall effect pads use magnetic sensors instead and they can't fail that way (supposedly).
I'm not even sure how I'm the keyboard has changed but I'm hitting B and . When hitting space and spellchecker is apprently blind to rando Bs and .s.
The controllers on XBox are what the exclusive AAA games are on PlayStation. At least XBox has a lot of controller editions😅
I have stock black Series X controller. Also white for spare that had gotten on sale.
Maybe if Series controllers had more emphasis on premium as was the case with that of X360…….
Looks nice! Might pick it up. Lots of first party Xbox games coming out this year to use it with too.
@abe_hikura Wow. Fair enough. I guess mine probably falls down to being too cold. It's like a freezer in my bedroom 🤣
@Kaloudz Same here, I'm parked right next to the chimney and the temperature plummets the second the sun stops trying. I ended up getting one if those little tealight heaters. No idea if it's actually warming but I can pretend it is lol
@abe_hikura Yeah I'm on the chimney too 🤣🤣 gotta love those morning pigeons don't ya?
I stopped spending the money on first party controllers after my third one got stick drift. Not sure what MS changed, but their controllers used to be solid AF. I still have X360 controllers that are 20 years old that work like a dream.
I started buying PowerA controllers for $25 and will continue to do so until MS starts putting hall effect sticks in their controllers.
MICROSOFT: FIX YOUR ****.
@Kaloudz that they are but then again at my old place we had ravens that would scream down the chimney if the bird feeder was empty.
@abe_hikura Had to Google that see that ravens are the US term for crows. Man they're loud as hell 🤣 beautiful creatures though.
@Kaloudz beautiful, intelligent and can hold a damn grudge/deliver shinny rocks.
@abe_hikura 🤣🤣 I'll have to take your word for the grudge part. The main pest here are seagulls. Birds that are suppose to be at sea, but spend most their time 30 miles from shore, scavenging.
@Kaloudz I used to live in a sea side town, learnt real quick to never have open food containers. Think I was 5 when I first saw a guy get his burger ripped from his lips, then try and chase them down
@abe_hikura 🤣🤣🤣 yeah that sounds about right. I love close to the seaside and the gulls just don't give a crap. They'll have the ice cream off your cone without a second thought.
You only have one pair of hands so don’t see the point having so many controllers but I guess people like to collect them? Love how this looks but don’t need it to be honest.
