Xbox has today unveiled its latest new controller in the form of the Ghost Cipher Special Edition, which features a transparent silver design complete with a bronze d-pad and triggers. It's set to launch on October 8, 2024.
You can pre-order the controller on the Xbox website today (in select markets), and it's available for £64.99 / $69.99.

In addition, six new transparent designs have been added to Xbox Design Lab specifically for the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, and they're all classed as part of the Cipher Series. The list of these is as follows:
- Astral Cipher
- Candy Cipher
- Ghost Cipher
- Pulse Cipher
- Surf Cipher
- Velocity Cipher

The Series 2 designs are naturally more expensive than the Ghost Cipher Special Edition, and to be honest it's that latter that we're most excited for anyway - we're really liking the design (aside from its non-transparent bit on the back).
But what about you? Will you be picking any of these up? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Don't like it. The Starfield controller is still my favourite across all current gen consoles. The retro ps5 might take first place though.
Design lab is so cool, i have never made one yet. But i want too. They better do a Gears of War E-Day special controller. I will for sure buy that. Overall tho, i stick to the stock Black. I do however like the white Series X. It’s slightly tempting. But i really don’t need it. These ones shown today do nothing for me tho.
You really cant say you get no choice with xbox, so many controller options! My faves were the forza special editions, we have two of those..
gonna get me a translucent green controller
Those do look pretty sweet, but my eyes are set on that 40th anniversary PSOne DualSense. My Starfield controller will have to do, besides it matches the headset.
Funny thing—it seems the worse the game, the more awesome the special edition controller for it is. Starfield is a dumpster fire and that controller is sick. Concord is…I don’t know, whatever is worse than a dumpster fire—a porta potty fire?—and that controller is freakin awesome. Shame we never got a Redfall pad, I bet that would have been amazing too.
Can’t decide if it’s kinda cool or hella ugly. Would need to try in person.
@Balaam_ Is this how playstation fanboys cope with Concord?
@BIG3 I love my astro ps5 pad, that's pretty sexy but the star field one is pretty good too
Seriously….who cares!
Get the elite v3 out there! these old pads are so ancient tech and terrible
Looks like my Elite Series 2, but boring with the hand motors covered.
Need to get that Elite Series 3 out already.
Yesterday they were talking about how eco friendly they are, and here they are today releasing more garbage.
sheesh!! 🔥🔥🔥 were these controllers sponsored by kanye?! the clear transparent one with the gold d-pad is 👌👌
@themightyant ugly. No need to try it. It’s ugly.
@Balaam_ Redfall pads, like these? https://www.purexbox.com/news/2023/04/redfall-bites-onto-xbox-design-lab-with-5-limited-edition-controllers
Those coloured ones would look really cool if the grips were also transparent. Borked it again, Xbox.
Xborks.
I still have two 360 Gears of War controllers, @HonestHick, and two for the Xbox One too. I also still have two of the 360 Gears of War Consoles, and the Xbox One Gears of War console. Some might say I'm a little bit obsessive when it comes to Gears of War... 😂
I so want to make an atomic purple elite , but waiting on v.3. I wonder if the clear colors would react to a black light? I remember the clear colored PS2 controllers glowing awesomely under a black light in the college dorm.
@Fiendish-Beaver Oh i know you have all that. I have the controllers. Never did get the console and now i am mad i didn’t. I really hope we get some cool gear for E-Day.
Me too, @HonestHick. I'd absolutely love it if they do a special console to celebrate it's release, but I have my doubts about that...
Ok, but what about that leaked Sebile controller with gyro and updated haptics? Have they given up on that? Cause I'm honestly bummed Xbox doesn't have a gyro option, otherwise it would be the best controller hands down.
@Fiendish-Beaver yeah not sure what to expect on it. Sure would be nice. I think we will get controllers. But not sure about a console. I could be way wrong.
Zero interest until what matters is fixed, i've been burned twice with these. Which truly sucks because the 'feel' of it is the best controller i've ever used. Need better lb/rb switches and hall sticks = perfect controller
Definitely think their will be controllers, @HonestHick. Not so sure they'll be a console. For me, the only problem with the controller is that I have an Elite 2, and therefore it is a step backwards to then play with a standard controller. I would still buy one, but it would stay in its box...
@Fiendish-Beaver yeah i want to try and get the Dual sense 30th PS1 and i will leave it in the box. Be worth a few dollars in a few years. I don’t do a lot of collecting or re selling tho. Not really my thing but sometimes i like to collect. It’s why i don’t miss physical games. I like not having the clutter.
I collect a lot, @HonestHick, and I mean a lot. I probably spend over a £1000 a year on Collector's Editions, most of which are probably not worth that much. Some though, are worth a lot. I very, very rarely open the box as that is where they often lose value. In many ways, it's a total waste of money, but I enjoy collecting them, and knowing I have them...
I love the design but I am still waiting on their new updated controllers.
