It had been rumoured before today's Xbox Developer Direct 2025 event that a legendary Japanese IP would make a surprise appearance, and it's turned out to be Ninja Gaiden 4 - launching in Fall 2025 on Xbox Game Pass!
The game, which is officially being published by Xbox Game Studios, will feature a new protagonist in the form of Yakumo, while the story will revolve around the return of the Dark Dragon and Yakumo's attempt "reconcile a destiny" with series legend Ryu Hayabusa - who will also be a playable character.
"An endless rain of miasma hangs over a near-future Tokyo in the wake of an ancient enemy’s resurrection. The fate of the city lies in the hands of young ninja prodigy, Yakumo. Fighting his way through cybernetic ninja soldiers and otherworldly creatures, Yakumo must reconcile a destiny he shares with the legendary Ryu Hayabusa himself and free Tokyo from the ancient curse that brought the city to its knees."
"Engage in visually stunning combat that rewards precision and strategy. Use Bloodbind Ninjutsu to transform your weapons and unleash devastation upon your enemies, alongside legacy techniques like the Izuna Drop and Flying Swallow. The legendary Ryu Hayabusa also returns with a revamped yet familiar set of tools to master. With a customizable player experience, NINJA GAIDEN 4 will push action game veterans to their limits while allowing newcomers to enjoy a heart-pounding adventure full of twists and turns."
In addition to this announcement, it was revealed that Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is launching today on Xbox Game Pass! This is a obviously a new take on the 2008 game, remastered using Unreal Engine 5 to deliver a big graphical upgrade.

Definitely going to pick this one up on PS5, love these games.
ooh man a little disappointed, was kinda hoping for Final Fantasy 16 or Final Fantasy 7 Remake
I can't say I'm impressed by the graphics from this trailer, but the end result probably looks better.
@Ash_uk1 Don’t worry just because it wasn’t at this. They’re coming.
Ridiculously excited for this one.
@Darude84 I agree the graphics were lackluster. It looks on par with ninja gaiden 1 on xbox. Ever since dark souls, seems like eastern devs seem to minimizing the graphics department.
Not a fan of Platinum but I'll give this a smash nonetheless. A great catch for the service either way.
@TeiGekiLord Is it also on PS Plus Premium Day One then ?
Damn. was not expecting a full ninja gaiden game at all!
Was not expecting this reveal but there day one, thank you very much!
Giving it the DMC4 treatment. Introduce a new character and still able to play with the original MC. I. Am. So. Here. For. This.
Hell yes! 3D Ninja Gaiden is back!
Yes! YAAS!!! Thank you Xbox.
This has made the whole generation worthwhile for me. I adore the NG series and have replayed the 3 original games countless times on various Xboxes.
And having NG 2 Black available today is the absolute icing on the cake. So happy!
Looks great. Think I'm going to dive into the new trilogy of games since ive never played them.
Kinda funny that the NG2b UE5 remaster shadow dropping today looks graphically better than NG4 running on Platinum's engine that comes out late in the year, which is par for the course for PG. Of course, Nier Automata looks like a 360 game while still being one of the crowning jewels of last gen so as long as it plays great & tells a good story it does not matter.
Are they making us play as a chick this time
When the hell is Fall? I have to Google this sh#t.
You have twelve perfect numbers to use. 😂
For me it's March.
@Reptilio No that'd scare away a tiny amount of fragile fanbase that can't handle it, so Ryu Hayabusa it is
Easily the best game shown and potentially best game this year (if GTA6 slips).
Very glad Microsoft is taking Ninja Gaiden a serious IP still for Xbox in general. The other games looked pretty good as well.
Best showing of games in a show for Xbox in 5+ years.
Glad this is going to game pass because this was a wait for deep discount for me based on the trailer.
