Yesterday, new rumours surfaced about Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Flight Simulator going multiplatform in 2025.
Now, in another update, Windows Central's Jez Corden has backed up these claims as "most likely true" and also suggested Microsoft won't be stopping there - with Hellblade 2, Age of Mythology, and "potentially" Gears of War: Ultimate Edition also on the way to PlayStation 5 and maybe even Nintendo's Switch successor:
Jez Corden: "I've heard that in addition to the above Hellblade 2, Age of Mythology, and potentially Gears of War 1 Ultimate Edition are all also slated for PlayStation 5 this year too, although I'm unsure if that includes the Nintendo Switch 2. I would expect that it most likely does, if I had to guess that part."
Corden does note how these plans are still subject to change and to take everything here with a "pinch of salt".
Xbox revealed last year there are no "red lines" on the games it could potentially bring to other platforms, and the gaming division's new campaign is now marketing pretty much everything as an Xbox - with Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella also mentioning how the mission is to make gaming more accessible than ever before.
How would you feel about Xbox releasing more first-party games on PlayStation and Nintendo platforms? Let us know.

Like Jez Corden said, these plans can change, so don’t act like it’s true.
If it keeps the ‘OG’ Xbox eco system healthy I couldn’t care less. I will have 4 of my most anticipated games in recent memory available to me come the end of march for next to nothing. My PS5 will sulk but my wallet will rejoice!
Port the Gears games everywhere so I can quadruple dip.
Look everyone knows the door is wide open the games are going. If it makes MS money.
So ‘insiders’ are just going to throw names and eventually some will be right.
I’m surprised Forza hasn’t been mentioned as that has been rumoured recently l.
Leakers and websites have gotten a lot of mileage out of the multiplatform story. At least it seems like people are coming to their senses about it and not as outraged anymore. Hopefully the comment sections will continue to cool off and people stop predicting that games like gears 1 being on ps5 will be the downfall of xbox.
Jez Corden is a mouthpiece!
Throwing around hypotheticals like it's fact what a gobshite!
Just talks crap nothing to back it up blah blah blah!
Xbox really hates Xbox...lol
@BacklogBrad Nobody is buying Xbox's. They continue to drop almost 30% every quarter. People are not coming to their senses, they're leaving the platform completely.
If you can get a PS5 or PS6 and it plays PlayStation exclusives, Xbox exclusives and gets the 3rd party games Xbox doesn't get, why would people buy an Xbox that only plays Xbox games and likely plays them worse than the PS5 Pro versions?
Funnily enough I am more concerned about more recent games like age of mythology, hellblade 2, flight sim 24 coming to PS than halo MCC. Yes definitely seeing halo on Ps would be weird but its an old game that we all had an opportunity to play a while ago.
I am thinking from perspective of xbox player who considers other platforms. Older games - whatever, but newer games is more important.
However seeing less or no exclusivity for neweer games (as above) is a problem. While there is some exclusivity window it creates more pull towards the platform. And its doubled with the GP value factor.
Honestly, if they dont want permanent exclusives - I get it. I would ideally choose a timeline like “every new game is at least 1 year exclusive on xbox platforms” - thats it. Pretty much how sony does with PC.
The moment every xbox game launches on PS/switch day 1 - xbox console will suffer
@TheGameThrifter as of today and seemingly next year or two PS5 is not playing all xbox games. Only a bunch of games were ported, the rest are all rumours.
I mean we all see the trend so prob next xbox where they finally rip the band aid completely and release everything day 1. But again all speculations for now.
If you sell xbox today and go to PS can you play avowed next month? What about fable and south of midnight. Subnatuca 2 signed for timed exclusivity. So i dont know
I can’t take anything seriously from someone named “Jez”
I would say again. Leave SOME exclusivity.
Some games day 1, others have 3 months, others make it like a year or so of exclusivity window. Its proven to work.
The real problem starts when everything is day 1 on competing consoles.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner its getting clicks and comments everytime. I really wish MS would come up with clear logic of how they do exclusivity or just end it. This vague uncertainty is very confusing and depressing.
Seing all these rumours every single week is tiring.
@Ricky-Spanish This time last year he was literally claiming that Halo or Gears would NEVER release on PlayStation and of course now he’s saying they’re 100% coming, he’ll excuse everything as “plans change” but the fact is he doesn’t have a scoop or anything, he’s just grifting from every situation and defends Microsoft as if he worked there.
@Millionski It’s time to accept Microsoft flat out doesn’t care in the slightest, they had a full year to disclose their plans to their core audience and all they’ve done is lie, time and time again.
“It’s only 4 games guys”, “Indiana Jones isn’t one of those games”, “Wukong hasn’t released because of Sony, not Series S”, and the list goes on and on.
@TheGameThrifter Yup, the multiplatform news has already taken a big hit in sales, and as much as Microsoft tell themselves that “every device is an Xbox” the truth remains that 90% of their subscriber base comes from consoles, most of their revenue comes from selling MTX on consoles, PC audience hates Microsoft and everyone uses Steam and Cloud Gaming is very subpar to GeForce Now or even Sony’s PS+, so they’re effectively nuking the only solid platform they had.
In my particular case I’m already actively rebuilding my library on both PS5 and Switch, haven't spent a cent in the MS Store since last year and I won’t EVER buy another Microsoft hardware again, only keeping my Series X until I get my entire library on other consoles or if I get a PC or Steam console.
Microsoft isn't stopping
Yes, it's now more and more apparent that becoming a reasonably big publisher they also want/need to make money from other platforms than Xbox and PC😉. The combined potential customers on PlayStation and Nintendo is enormous.
@Millionski
I really wish MS would come up with clear logic of how they do exclusivity or just end it
This is from the article we comment on:
Xbox revealed last year there are no "red lines" on the games it could potentially bring to other platforms
I think it's a strong enough indication of what Microsoft's multiplatform plans are.
Regardless of all the speculation in recent months, it's inevitable that more if not most first party titles land on PlayStation. That's just economics. Xbox console sales are drying up. It's no longer competitive and all consoles, whatever their manufacturer are not profitable. Software is. I can still see Microsoft doing a handheld and perhaps some kind of specialized console/PC hybrid but that's it. The Series S was a nice idea/experiment but the lower specs aren't going to cut it next gen. This isn't great news for gamers as Sony won't have a direct competitor.
Footnote - this comment is also speculation/an opinion!
@Sol4ris my point is different. Yes any game CAN come to PS (no red lines). Question is will it? If will - when? And those are equally important questions
@Millionski it might help if you don’t act so high and mighty about playstation
@IOI I dont think they “dont care at slightest”.
They definitely care less than before but still need console.
If it would be like you are saying - why even bother with mid gen refresh and next gen? Literally they can announce today no plans for future hardware, all new games day 1 on PS and aggressive porting of older games to Ps/N?
Because they still have 50M or so active players across 2 xbox gens. They still have 80% if not more of GP subs on consoles. So they want slow death of xbox while growing and getting revenue elsewhere.
@donv2135 where did I say anything mighty about them?
@16BitHero what they do is counter-productive. They do everything to kill consoles while still continuing and promising next gen?
And what about GP subs? Seems like its no priority either?
I dont think they can pull off proper xbox-pc hybrid that would have best of both worlds at reasonable price in a matter of 2-3 years.
Prob still launching a traditional series X-like console but I dont know how they can sell it with all these choices.
xbox is losing 80% of premium game sales due to gamepass.. what choice does xbox have but to embrace full third party..
When you rely on another company to sell your products, you give them control over your products.
Looks like Series X will remain my last console at this rate
Rumours rumours rumours... And yet all thats gone there are mid games, and a Disney's ip game... Where is Starfield? Where is Forza Horizon 5? They keep saying their lies and all are still lies until Microsoft says otherwise.
For all the damage it is supposedly doing to the xbox brand all I seem to see is excitement from Nintendo and PlayStation communities to play these great games. This is a positive for the brand.
At this point the vast majority of Xbox is software Devs. I know that most Devs want the widest largest audience so that their work can be appreciated by the most people, so this approach will not be unpopular with most of Xbox.
Think how many more people will be excited for new Microsoft games with this policy. For a primarily software development corp like Microsoft, that means everything.
They have been extremely clear these moves will come, we simply don't have titles and dates yet.
Everyone knew this was true last February, Jez was one of the only people to sit there stubbornly claiming it wasn't. Now, 11 months later, he's reporting this like it's some sort of leak. He's a ****ing clown, how much does he make to write this crap?
@BacklogBrad the excitement I see out of Nintendo and moreso playstation fans about all this is that it's the death throes of a competitor.
Hopefully this means they make more games per annum
@Jenkinss you seem to be rewriting history. Jez Corden was on this story from the start.
"I can confirm that Microsoft as of right this second is planning to launch more and more of its "Xbox exclusives" onto PlayStation and Nintendo Switch where applicable." Jez corden feb-4-2024
https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/xbox/report-xbox-is-planning-to-publish-starfield-on-playstation-5
@BacklogBrad it’s a positive for the Xbox-as-a-game-publisher brand. But not for them as an ecosystem or a platform holder.
I really think Halo & Gears shouldn’t go over but I know i’m in the minority. There is no going back from that.
What are PS doing so right they don’t need to do this. Ps has great exclusive ip and if Xbox allow all theirs over I don’t see me sticking come next gen update.
@K1LLEGAL I don't agree with the "no going back" sentiment. There is no reason they couldn't stop porting games over if they ever felt the need to. I don't think they ever will feel the need to go back as they should make a lot more money per release going forward.
If xbox can demonstrate a large untapped profit in multiplat ports (like they did with pc releases), I don't see how playstation can turn a blind eye to multiplat releases too. Sony and it's investors will expect them to take the most profitable route.
I understand that creating a console is expensive and the console war is not really essential or necessary for MS, especially since they have acquired Activision and so many other studios. Also, ultimately, shareholders and the board of directors are running the show, so profit comes first. PlayStation fans may find this a big win, but ultimately, consoles are not what they used to be. They were originally the only way to play games at home and they are ultimately the very bottom of gaming. Most gamers in the world today, don't play consoles or PC, but their phones. The situation is different than when the OG Xbox launched and PlayStation was attempting to become the only needed box in one's home for gaming, entertainment, etc. It will be strange to see Forza Horizon, Halo and Gears on PlayStation and Switch, but it's also sad that they don't get to experience such amazing cooperative and multiplayer titles just because they didn't own an Xbox or PC. Nevertheless, when Xbox consoles stop being produced and supported will be a sad day, but perhaps I will migrate back to gaming on my Windows PC exclusively like I did in the 90s. I own, but do not prefer a PlayStation or Switch. The Nintendo analogue sticks are too light and flimsy and the battery life on PlayStation controllers have been simply terrible since they went wireless on the PS3. I prefer the choice of using whatever rechargeable batteries I want, and I prefer the feel of the buttons and the location of the analogue sticks on Xbox controllers. This is my opinion and preference.
@BacklogBrad I understand you statement, but Sony still wants to keep their fans living and breathing their ecosystem. If MS starts porting everything over to both Switch and PlayStation, they will have no reason to start expanding their exclusives to anything beyond PC, for there will no longer be an Xbox console. Xbox sales are low because PC gamers can now play literally that Xbox owners can. If MS starts porting precious exclusives to both Switch and PlayStation, Xbox will no longer spend money to develop a new console, for there will be no reason to.
I can’t wait for flight sim on my PS5. I’m tempted to get a series S just to play it but don’t want to fork out for a series x so if it comes soon I’ll be happy.
This is the same James Corden that denied the name of the next gen Xbox is Xbox Prime. But On the Xbox Two Podcast he was asked if he knew what the name was. He said he didn't 🤣🤣🤣. So how can he deny what he doesn't know.
@cragis0001 Jez Corden, not James. Jez might not know anything and be desperate to be seen as some sort of industry insider, but even he isn't as insufferable as James Corden. 🤣
@SEADRIVE xbox will continue to make consoles. They make money off gamepass and 3rd party sales on the console.
Xbox consoles with true exclusives has threshold of profit.
Xbox consoles with timed exclusives that later go multiplat has a higher profit threshold.
No xbox console but just multiplat has the lowest profit threshold.
Xbox will make consoles as long as we are in this era of plugging a plastic box into a display. I think eventually we get to the stage where xbox and playstation are just storefronts available everywhere but we're still a ways off from that.
@Markatron84 I had a brain fart 🤣🤣🤣. But I laughed when he said he was 100% sure it won't be called Xbox Prime. But when his co host asked if he knew the name. He said he didn't.
@cragis0001 he's a melt. He doesn't know anything about anything.
@TheGameThrifter it's not just about the games though for most who enjoy Xbox. It's the ecosystem / features such as quick resume/ GP / and ofc the controller.
As an aging gamer I can't use the PS controller for any extended period without cramps. For me the Xbox controller is much more comfortable and feels more natural in my grip.
Each to their own.
Once all franchises are no longer associated with Xbox after going multiplatform (as we saw with Sonic no longer being associated with Sega consoles) then what will Xbox’s identity be? The Game Pass console? Subscription console? I find that underwhelming if that’s really all that Xbox will have to offer.
I wonder why this is news anymore. The assumption should be that if MS publishes a game it is going to ship on XB, PC, and PS at the very least.
I wouldn’t take what Jez Corden says as gospel
Some people threaten to leave XBOX next gen as if Microsoft will lose money. Quite the opposite in my opinion. Most of these people never buy ANYTHING outside of Gamepass (and many of them have stacked dirt cheap GPs to begin with), and the consoles are sold at a loss with main profit being the 30% cut from the third party sales. When they're not selling almost next to nothing third party games due to
A) Lack of meaningful active player base compared to PC/PS5
B) People not buying games outside of GP
Then it's obvious some people leaving the "ecosystem" will only benefit them. For each one leaving the ecosystem, there are multiple people on Playstation/Nintendo ecosystems that will purchase the games full price that not only covering the few pennies yearly revenue from that player, but will bring in much more money.
So yeah, XBOX knows business better than many of the armchair analysts here and it's quite the opposite of the death of XBOX.
It's a rumour. I don't believe Jez's and Nate the hate's words. They might release some games also on others platforms but nothing is confirmed yet specifically. For all those who have short memory, last year nate the hate said that starfield was definitely coming on PS5 in 2024 and afterwards he said he was wrong and apologized. How people trust these "insiders" is beyond me.
To me, it looks like there won't be a new Xbox generation at all. And why should they. In the future, you will play via TV or PC and have GamePass as a subscription model. I've been playing since the 360, but I could fully understand this strategy.
Welp. OG Xbox and 360 were an amazing time but I'll be relieved when XB franchises appear on all platforms. Now, if we can get Rare Replay, PGR 1-4, and Gears ported over, I can pack up the 360.
Every time an Xbox event approaches, we get our share of false rumors!
