It's been a weird start to the year for Xbox Game Pass, with the first couple of weeks being a bit underwhelming in terms of new releases, but we've got some cool stuff on the way - including a biggie for mid-February!
The one confirmed Xbox Game Pass release of February 2025 right now is Avowed, which arrives on February 18th. This is the first release from Xbox Game Studios of the year, and it's being developed by the good people at Obsidian, which is a renowned studio known for the likes of Grounded and The Outer Worlds in recent years.
Avowed is following the trend of many other first-party Xbox releases in that it's getting five days' worth of early access for anyone who buys the Premium or Premium Upgrade additions, with the 'Premium Upgrade Addon' specifically being targeted at Game Pass members for £19.99 / $24.99. If you can wait until the 18th though, you won't have to pay anything as long as you're already an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass member.
That's all we know about February for now, but don't forget that the few days before February are absolutely stacked already! On January 28th we've got Eternal Strands, on the 30th we've got Sniper Elite: Resistance, and on the 31st we've got Citizen Sleeper 2 - all of which are brand-new day one releases. We can't wait for all three of those!

I'm more hoping it will be good than hyped it will be good!
@VoidPunk
GamersTM. There fixed it for you.
Seriously touch grass!
@VoidPunk Gurl lmaoo, please stop embarrassing yourself. You're being a clown right now.
I really hope it releases in a similar state as Indy, will be able to give it a good go until wilds releases
Taking screenshots to save when we get the article announcing sales numbers lol.
Completely disinterested. The visual aesthetic they settled on is atrocious. A garish, hideously ugly color palette coupled with outdated character models and stilted animations is a terrible combination. It reminds me of those eye-searing neon colored Lisa Frank art supplies for kids from the 90’s. ‘Graphics don’t make a game’ blah blah, yeah, but taking a mediocre looking rpg and giving it a poop-brown spraycoat doesn’t help.
Not really. Obsidian has burned any goodwill they had with some seriously lackluster releases. And bled off a significant amount of their good talent a couple years back.
Definitively a wait and see for me. My expectations are mediocre at best, unfortunately...
I am interested. Might resub for this one, I'm not sure. It releases close to Like a Dragon, and then I have Assassin's Creed in March.
@VoidPunk damn, who cares!? We're being f'ed over globally by billionnaires and giant multinationals, but "injecting politics" and "culture wars" are the issues. Way to be distracted and blind on the real problems, but keep ranting I suppose -_-
I’m not always interested in first party games. Definitely almost always interested in obsidian tho. Don’t forget Pentiment.
I have game pass for indies, but it’s almost worth it for obsidian, Bethesda, double fine, and a few others too. Almost.
@Balaam_ bro you hate almost everything. Maybe it’s time to quit.
@VoidPunk the paranoia of some of you anti-woke folks is absolutely shocking.
I’m definitely going to give it a try, contrary to most the more they’ve shown the more I’m interested in it.
Looks decent and it's on Gamepass so I will be giving this a try. This looks like it could potentially have some the mechanics and world building that I enjoy in games. Some of the early reviews from some rather critical reviewers have been tentatively positive.
I’ll try it. I don’t like the color palette used on the game, but it’s Obsidian and Xbox has been on a roll lately, so I’m down for it. For the record, I did not like how the Outer Worlds looked either before launch. It reminded me of Borderlands, which I’m not a fan, to say the least, but I still preordered it because, “Obsidian.” I was glad I trusted them in spite of disliking how they advertised the game.
I've been waiting for it for a long time. I'm not put off by the aesthetic choices made and I'm signed up to game pass for indy (which it transpires makes me ill), so I get to try for myself soon.
Though I'm not always in agreement with him, Skillup is decent judge of a games worth and he was surprised and very complimentary in his preview, so I've every reason to be optimistic.
@Titntin I was listening to triple click podcast and in one episode they mentioned being able to change sensitivity setting or the ratio or something to deal with motion sickness with Indy, assuming that's what you mean by making you ill so there may be help out there online if you really want to play it.
As for me, Indy didn't click, but I have been looking forward to a good old fashioned rpg, cannot wait for Avowed
I'm in the Avoid Avowed Crowd.
@RentedPanda Thanks my friend. There's quite a lot of settings that can help a bit and I will try again some day. I am very suceptical to these issues though and can't play vr at all, so I may never get over it.
I genuinely think Avowed will be real good...
Out of all the first party games coming out this year, this is the one I fear to be the most 'mid'. I've watched a number of previews and nothing really stands out to me.
I hope it's great for those who are hyped but I can see this being lost in a plethora of better games coming out in Feb regardless of it being free with gamepass.
@VoidPunk so many people hate the truth.
@D3vils0n666 so many people think their opinion is the truth
Will defo give it a go obviously ..not really my setting but the fact apparently it's a shorter game works for me ....CBA with huge games anymore unless it's something truly special

Very excited but only worried if its locked 30fps. For 1st person gameplay could be bad experience.
And we all know 60fps patch is coming eventually.
Not sure if its a day 1 game for me or wait for patches

Got my ps5 for crimbo (from myself...) so I have an absolutely massive backlog. But yeah I'm excited! It's the one I'm probably most looking forward to. Maybe I'll leave it a few weeks because day one has treated me badly for too long. Maybe this is important enough to wait for a few patches.
I'll give this one a try and just manage my expectations that it's a B-exclusive (not AAA) and that it's not super long. This is the type of game I wish they released more often. Less than 30-40 hours for the main story & quicker to release than a massive behemoth.
It'll be outer worlds without guns and I doubt it'll do the pillars of eternity world justice.
Just can't trust Microsoft studios to release a decent game seems like they've been abysmal for over a decade especially that recent indiana jones game which i genuinely believe is the most boring game i have ever played, i would play rogue warrior 100 times more to completion before i ever tried to play through the Indiana jones game once, todd howard would need to pay me beaucoup money to finish that snoozefest.
Some weird comments, as always. Never understood the rampant negativity around our hobby sometimes - it genuinely seems like some people would be better off doing something else.
Anyway, this looks interesting. Looking forward to seeing how it pans out at release.
I was interested it looked a good game but till there's a performance mode I'll pass I'm never playing a game at 30 fps again it should have a performance mode no excuses whatsoever
I really thought they would announce a 60fps mode after the delay. 😥

@Scrubchub They’d probably read Lord of the Rings and complain about the graphics!
I don't really get "excited" for games anymore, but I hope it's good. I've seen a lot of my favorite western RPG devs go to crap over the past few years so I'm hoping Obsidian isn't one of them
@Kilamanjaro agreed. I've got limited time (many of us do nowadays) and a 40 hour game is the perfect length for an rpg imo
Not to mention that when a game is 100 hours long I end up burning out around 60 hours in anyway
I really hope Avowed delivers.
The world was a little weak imo from the Pillars games so hopefully they make it interesting in this one. Will see how it goes.
Edit: Should say hoping it will be good, just not convinced by the world.
@Scrubchub The negativity you discuss is weird. I find it especially weird when it is directed at a game that has not been released or reviewed yet.
Some people get so worked up and fixed in their opinions before anyone has even had a chance to play the thing.
@Westernwolf4
They aren’t hiding the negative features. No need to play to learn more when it’s on full display.
Looks pretty alright for an Xbox One game
@Llamageddon is yours?
@Hexamex-Tex it was simply a riff on the previous comment. Nothing more, nothing less.
