Last year proved to be a bit of a wild time for Japanese studio Tango Gameworks. The team was riding high after 2023's Hi-Fi RUSH, before then-owner Microsoft decided to close the studio during a heavy round layoffs in 2024. In the end though, things are working out for the team - as evidenced by its new year message to kick off 2025.
Taking to social media this week, the former Bethesda developer has let us know that it's been "reborn" as Tango Gameworks Inc. under new publisher Krafton. The team is looking forward to "crafting games that bring joy to players around the world".
Will any of those games end up being a continuation of Hi-Fi RUSH? Well, probably. Last month, the studio said that it "wants to cherish" the IP - even if a sequel hasn't entered into full production at this stage.
For now, Tango Gameworks Inc. is "considering various opportunities" over at the PUBG publisher, so we'll just have to wait and see about what happens next. While the team's split from Xbox is unfortunate, in the end, we're just happy that the Hi-Fi RUSH maker can go on and create more games in the future.
What do you want to see next from Tango Gameworks? Talk to us about the future of the studio down below.

I so look forward to more from these folks. MS did a very dumb thing, closing this studio.
It will go down in history as one of the most shortsighted decisions Microsoft has ever taken, and personally it is the thing that made me completely lose faith in Xbox.
So glad that Krafton stepped in and saved both the studio and IP, it’s sad that The Evil Within will forever remain in Microsoft’s IP graveyard but hopefully they’ll come out with a spiritual successor or something like that.
This type of game has no chance now days, it would have to be full of Microtransactions to make the money needed to justify it. Look at Sony now trying everything to get a successful big Microtransaction game out
Only one who could probably still make money on this type of game 'over time' would of been Nintendo mainly due to the lack of price drops on First Party games.
@Rog-X What are you talking about? What type of game? If this didnt release as a Xbox console exclusive and was marketed properly (it got shadow dropped without prior marketing) it wouldve sold just fine, especially with the critical acclaim it got.
Its not even a triple A game, so it doesnt need a huge budget. A sequel, provided it has the same quality as the first, has the potention to sell just fine. Especially if it’s not made exclusive to a platform with a userbase that isn’t particularly prone to buying games.
Best of luck to them. Hopefully they are able to get another game out and it does well.
Fighting games and rhythm games are not really genres I enjoy but I thought the hi fi ip was pretty cool.
Amazing game, loved every second of my run.
@Rog-X Tell me you find every opportunity to disparage Sony in an article unrelated to Sony without telling me you find every opportunity to disparage Sony in an article unrelated to Sony.
@LogicStrikesAgain “Especially if it’s not made exclusive to a platform with a userbase that isn’t particularly prone to buying games.”
Just this. The number of people who wait for games to hit GamePass is sad. That said, I freely admit GamePass DID get me to buy Hi-Fi Rush digitally after trying it out on my Series X. Unfortunately, most people wouldn’t actually buy the game afterwards.
@TeiGekiLord Same here... I even took a screenshot from one of my boss battles, and still have it as my wallpaper on the xbox, it looked amazing... I loved the art style.

As a GPU subscriber since the beginning of the service and, as someone who also waits for certain titles to hit GamePass, what is sad about it?
I'm saying this as someone who bought more games that appeared on the service than at any time before GamePass was a thing. My case might be an outlier here, but in no way sad.
@Sol4ris I more meant that the people who play said games and then don’t buy them is sad.
Obviously you are DEFINITELY an outlier, as am I! But (and yes, this is anecdotal, I know) my series X-owning friend at work has bought exactly three games since getting the X at launch. He’s a gamepass guy. Hell, the only reason he still has Forza Horizon 4 is because I bought it for him digitally over the holidays.
He’s the only other series X owner I know, so my knowledge pool is admittely small. But he’s definitely not an outlier from what I see online, and that’s why I find it sad.
it would be pretty funny if they created a sequel and made it for the switch 2 and ps5 only. It's the least MS deserves tbh.
@fabio1 I had the same thought. I mean, obviously MS didn’t think they were good enough to keep them, soooooo…
MS absolutely flubbed by closing Tango.
Hope the devs do well but not my kinda game tbh.
