We've heard a lot this year about Xbox games jumping over to PlayStation, but we've also seen a fair few ex-PlayStation exclusives arriving on Xbox as well - two particularly notable examples being Death Stranding and Genshin Impact.
And, according to Windows Central, this trend is set to continue in 2025. The outlet is stating today that as per its sources, we'll be seeing "even more" former PlayStation exclusives launch on Xbox next year:
"Sources suggest to me that even more unannounced and previously PlayStation-exclusive games are slated for Xbox in 2025 as well."
We'd urge a bit of caution when it comes to this sentence though - don't go expecting God of War or The Last of Us to suddenly release on Microsoft's consoles. Instead, it's most likely going to be third-party releases that previously had a timed deal with PlayStation, perhaps including one or more of the recent mainline Final Fantasy titles.
Whatever these games end up being, we're always thankful to receive new games on Xbox that were previously locked to other platforms, and if any of them are as good as Death Stranding, we're in for a real treat next year!
Which games do you think this statement is referring to? Let us know down in the comments below.

No first party sony studio game will ever come to xbox
It will be 3rd party timed ps exclusives where contract ended. Its not even news as we have seen stray and kena before as an example
@DarthCvrle66 One already has: The Show. And there are rumors that Lego Horizon may as well.
FF is a given. Stellar Blade is likely (devs expected higher sales on PC than PS, I'm sure they'd like to hit every platform while they're at it.) Rise of Ronin is a weird one because there's no PC port mentioned either, but it's a Tecmo game, of course there's going to be ports.
Realistically, there's not a lot of "True" exclusives on either side of the divide these days. A lot of PS's have been purchased exclusive that aren't forever exclusive. Their internal studios haven't had a whole lot of output (and Concord was a dud, and Helldiver's largest market is PC anyway), and Xbox is obviously giving most of their big games to PS. Very different era.
@Millionski All true but this works both ways. PlayStation had to wait over a year for GOTY nominee Immortality which was an Xbox console exclusive. Scorn, Planet of Lana, Somerville, 40K Darktide were also around a year. High on Life was 6+ months. Stalker 2 is an Xbox console exclusive with no PS5 date. Plenty of other Game Pass titles are similar.
Granted it seems like there are more on the PlayStation side, and often higher profile, but it's happening everywhere.
I mean…technically some PS exclusives HAVE come to XBox. Yakuza games, the Persona series…
God of War or Uncharted or the like never will, though.
There will never, or at least not any time soon, be a first party game on Xbox. As for third or second party, I can easily see Stellar Blade and Final Fantasy making the jump to Xbox, which would be very beneficial for Microsoft and Square Enix.
@Kraven MLB: The Show is a first party Sony game on Xbox. And there are rumors that Lego Horizon may come as well.
@themightyant yeah its true. Not arguing that.
But if MS is now releasing day 1 games on PS and rumored to do even more of that, whats the point at all with 3rd party timed exclusivity?
Kinda weird to release doom and outer worlds day 1 on PS but keep 3rd party exclusivity with some indie game like planet of lana.
I would bet next gen we will have 0 exclusives period as they believe people wont switch over anyways (at least not in dozens of milllions).
This is the part I hate about their management now: half measures and not clear messaging all the time
@awp69 yeah lego horizon for Indy, doom and outer worlds 2. Fair trade
It's probably on about stuff like FFXVI, Silent Hill 2 Remake, MGS4, etc.
I would love it they gave us the uncharted games they are literally so much fun to play even the first although it's slightly dated now!
@DarthCvrle66 As others have stated, Sony has already done this with MLB The Show. Granted, this was apparently a demand from the license holders (port to everything and keep the license or do nothing as we take it elsewhere.)
And there may be suggestions that Sony had a similar deal with LEGO. It couldn't just be on PlayStation, hence a Switch and PC port. If Xbox comes 6 months after, we'll know there was some intentional delayed release. Though I also wouldn't be surprised if Sony played hardball and demanded Xbox be excluded. That's a hill they'd love to die on.
@Millionski Likely comes down to money. They make FAR more releasing games like Doom, The Outer Worlds 2 day 1 on PS5 than they do signing small indies to exclusivity deals. But we also don't know if this will change. These deals are often agreed long in advance, perhaps they won't going forward.
Also an important aspect is development on games like Doom and The Outer Worlds 2 were started before the ABK takeover, that means all their finances were planned as multi-platform releases. If you suddenly make all those games exclusives then divisions like Activision and Bethesda will struggle to make profits as you aren't going to reach those original sales goals on one console platform.
Lastly ABK and Bethesda cost what they cost in part BECAUSE those games make so much money by releasing on every platform, you would devalue your purchase somewhat by making them exclusive. Obviously you would increase the value in other areas, but probably not enough.
All in all a lot of factors going on in deciding which games to make exclusive and which not.
I'm hoping silent hill 2 makes the jump the day the 1 year is up (October 8th '25). That game is awesome. Probably my game of the year.
I can see sony throwing something like returnal, horizon, ghost of tsushima, etc on xbox. Those games have ran their course on ps5. I imagine spider man is forced to be on all platforms eventually when Disney realizes there is more money in multiplat.
@themightyant Outer worlds 2 is obsidian studio and it was acquired before even bethesda. Back then we were not even talking about xbox exclusives on PS/N.
DOOM is a bethesda game and until this year all their new projects were exclusive to xbox: hi-fi rush, redfall, starfield.
Indy probably different due to licensing. But DOOM - there is no excuse to not make exclusive. Same as outer worlds 2. Why avowed is exclusive (for now) and outer worlds is not? There was an argument about established franchise (like DOOM and outer worlds previously on PS) but it also does not work as Hellblade 2 is exclusive.
Its just all over the place, they are testing different things but its all clutter to hide real intention - day 1 on PS for everything. That makes sense if you factor in Phil "no red lines", Satya pushing for multiplat and latest reports along with half of 1st party MS games on PS in 2025.
@BacklogBrad Sony wants to destroy xbox in console space and take their share. THey wont do anything that can potenitally hurt playstation. PC is not their competior directly, hence the ports. I dont see in the foreseeable future any reason for sony to port a single 1st party exclusive regardless of the scope - they cant risk the reputation now. The only exception is licensing games like LEGO horizon and MLB. Maybe it changes long term like 2 gens from now but not this and next gen I would say.
@DarthCvrle66 And then XBox announces a Steam Launcher on their next console. XD
I just wish the timed releases would stop. I basically only buy exclusives on day one. Because anything that might be third party may go to another platform.
@Millionski good pint about Obsidian, thanks for the correction.
Yeah there isn’t much rhyme or reason to which titles are exclusive, which are timed-exclusives and which are multiplatform day 1. I suspect Microsoft would look at their books and decide on a case by case basis.
@Grumblevolcano yeah agreed, exactly those games as well I reckon.
In fairness I don't want stuff like TLOU or Dad of War on Xbox, one of the main reasons I switched to Xbox was for the increase in variety and generally more FUN (and less SERIOUS) games. I'll grab them on PC if I want them that much.
Both platforms are cool though, astro bot is the only one I'm genuinely jealous of!
People also said that Sony will never ever port their games to Windows PC... Anything is possible now, even more with exclusivity fanboy Jim Ryan gone, a new CEO with feet on the ground and Sony in the red.
@Millionski I don't see how porting a game from 3-4 years ago "harms their reputation."
I think it's only a matter of time before sony executives (not playstation executives) mandate that some games go multiplat for the bump in revenue.
Their live-service model ain't working, the big single player games have narrow profit margins. What is the next strategy? Put the games everywhere.
People said the same thing when xbox went all in on PC. "Playstation will never do this with their flagship games." Here we are. If xbox demonstrates that there is more profit to be had then Sony will follow. Money is the most important thing in the world to them like every other major corporation.
You heard it here first: MAG coming to Xbox Series X|S in 2025.
Not really a shocking development since a few PS5 exclusives are from third-parties.
Until Dawn remake is probably going to Xbox
@ALK How would they make any money that way?
Microsoft subsidizes the console hardware and takes a loss because they make up for it by selling software, subscriptions and microtransactions.
They wouldn't earn anything from a Steam 3rd party game sale or microtransaction on the Steam Store. Furthermore, Microsoft charges to play games online, so people would circumvent paying to play by simply playing Steam versions.
There's honestly no way Microsoft earns money that way.
Clearing talking about stuff like Silent Hill 2 Remake, Wu Kong, Final Fantasy.
@BacklogBrad because its more harm for sony than its for MS.
It only takes just 1 precedent to stir the pot and fans will be furious and asking same questions. We all know how it starts - release older game like uncharted 4 on xbox, then release a newere one and here we are at the same spot as xbox is now with exclusivity, there it goes.
PS relies on hardware first. that did not change. they want you to buy their platform.
MS now relies on software and xbox console comes not even second. they want you to buy content where it is available (anywhere and day 1 soon).
PS as a brand will fall without plastic box, which is not the case with MS. Heck, they probably even remove xbox branding and replace it with MS gaming...who knows.
Also from a financial standpoint porting a game for 50M audience (and some part of which just plays GP and doesnt buy games) is not the same as porting to a 120M audience where people are better at buying games.
If people get a message that now you can have GP and SONY games on xbox console, man the exodus will start on the PS side lol.
Gonna be Lego Horizons because it sold like trash so Sony might as well have it on everything.
@BacklogBrad I agree though that things can change for sony. Good argument about big AAA budgets but I guess another reason is we are mid gen now so only 60M+ PS5s are sold.
Now they release PRO and GTA releases soon so they will get the influx of hardware sales.
I bet closer to end of gen is where AAA games will make money even as an exclusive. Like Wolverine and Intergalactic probably having higher profit margins.
Thats why I feel like the generations has to extend overall and crossgen period has to be longer. Maybe PS6 wont get many (or any) exclusives until several years on the market. In the of the day new gen is mostly power bump now but games are being available across several gens.
Or they cut budgets. Games like astro show that you can have a success without 300m Budgets
@Millionski playstation will not fall without the plastic box. They will fall because of the plastic box. Look around the industry. Nintendo is a hybrid, steam is everywhere (they even make their own hardware now hybrids, and home consoles soon), Xbox is trying to be everywhere.
Even Playstation is heavily rumored to be making a pc launcher where they would sell their own games and 3rd party games. Many different insiders have said they talked to sony employees at length about it. It is mentioned in the source code of some of their pc ports.
Like it or not this is where the industry is going.
@TheGameThrifter Agree. It seems like making xbox as a pc-like or hybrid is in the air like a logical move. However, there is no proper way to get around this as of today.
They dont want to subsidize a pc where steam will be available.
If they go another way by licensing xbox to other brands like MSI and such, then we will see $1000 xboxes as those companies not subsidize costs but moreover charge markups for their pre-builts as they dont make money off software.
Microsoft's recent 'This Is An XBOX' advertising strategy is hurting Sony in one major way.
If Microsoft manages to, when xCloud comes out of 'Perpetual Beta', announce that every game on XBOX, within the first month of release, will be released on Cloud, they could get away with not releasing a successor to the XBOX Series to consumers, since their customer base is steadily climbing without a new console.
Nintendo have a solid lock on the handheld market. Microsoft are looking at a solid lock on the cloud market. Sony could find themselves losing the next console war... by simply releasing a new console.
@BacklogBrad I did not say that should be an under-tv box. Sony can do their portable or hybrid like switch, we have a lot of rumours about that. I am talking pushing proprietary hardware that locks you into the ecosystem.
Porting to PC did not hurt their console share much. PS5 is trending same as ps4. With games like GTA 6 maybe even surprass it. Sony still wants console share while MS is not. PC is not a direct competitor to console. Sure they will make delayed ports via an app as you saying - why not?
The industry is going yes, but it will take good 10-20 years. Its the MS who pushing this narrative of PC and cloud hard, but we are not there yet at all. Thats why its confusing, they are likely right in the long term but we live today.
@Millionski I don't know how successful astro is, outside of award wins. I think it was last reported at 1.5million copies. It will probably rise but to what 3 mil? Great game though.
It just seems odd that publishers like square want nothing to do with console exclusives anymore. Even the jrpgs that don't have an audience on xbox are opting to make xbox versions instead.
But I also just think the biggest thing is that it won't harm sony to do timed exclusives instead. What does a game from 3 years ago do for their console right now? It could be selling on switch 2/xbox instead of no longer selling on Playstation. Everyone that was interested should have bought it by then.
It's way easier to convince someone outside the ecosystem to buy a game for $70 or less than it is to convince them to abandon their current system and buy a $550 machine and a $70 game. If they couldn't defeat xbox one when xbox made like 1 game per year or less then they just aren't going to convince everyone to move over there.
@ALK Then they could have Xbox, PC and PlayStation PC games on the one console
@BacklogBrad I think its more like reputational hit without making that big of a buck. There was even recently an article about that and consensus is Sony likely wont do it.
Its the best time for them to defeat xbox. MS is trying to go away from consoles (no marketing, no exclusives, "this is an xbox", "you dont need an xbox" etc). Sony has momentum with PS5, now PS5 PRO and GTA coming soon. I would even double down to ensure even more people switch from xbox to PS next gen if I were sony.
They will increase PC presence but without hurting the PS. Service games being day 1, but single player franchises - prob still exclusivity window.
I would want them to release sony games on xbox personally. would be cool to end this exclusivity kindergarten but I guess thats how its always been and not only in gaming.
@ValentineMeikin thats the strategy sure, not gonna fly in next 10 years at least. Cloud tech is not even remotely there. And I keep hearing about cloud since gaikai days and PS now and then stadia.
@Millionski pc is actually directly competing with home consoles. My Steam deck and rog ally do exactly what my switch does. Steam is making a "home console" version. There will likely be dozens of other home console pcs after that just like the handheld pc market is taking off right now. These will be connect to the TV systems that play pc,xbox, and Playstation games. That sounds awesome as a consumer to have your games available for whatever device you decide to purchase. Choosing between literally dozens of devices instead of the next thing they tell you to buy. Sony and Xbox need to get here fast.
I think it is smart to get out in front of the changing industry and innovate instead of holding on to the old way for dear life until you have to catch up to what everyone else is doing.
And there is the whole Google play/apple store lawsuits that are seemingly leading to mobiles not being locked to one storefront anymore. Why wouldn't consoles eventually be forced down that same route.
Silent Hill 2 remake is one of them. I believe it is a one year timed exclusive.
@Banjo- Are Sony actually in the red? Of course Concord was a huge blow and Lego Horizon seeming... to just exist. But i havent heard that they're in panic mode. Im not doubting you either, just surprised to hear.
@Elbow Despite Microsoft being almost 30 times more important than Sony in terms of value, $3.11T = $3,110B versus $106.90B, Sony's net debt is much higher than Microsoft's. Sony's net debt is around $239.40B, twice as much as its own value. Sony reports positive results because they split their numbers a lot. Yes, it's normal to have considerable net debts when you are a big company, but theirs is astronomical and increasing year by year.
@Banjo- just Googled it n your right 😭 how on earth have they got that much. Only this year was reading things saying ps5 is most profitable console they ever had etc wouldn't expect that
Sony has no reason to release their first party games on Xbox unfortunately. Playstation is generating over 1/3 of Sony's total revenue and their stock right now is the highest it's been since 2000. In other words, Sony is riding on a ton of momentum right now as their buisness is booming. I suspect these will just be third party games.
Tbh, Sony is going to clutch exclusives close to its chest, because they wouldn't be profitable if they didn't. I think Microsoft should give an ultimatum saying, "Sony wants to stick to exclusives, so in response every Microsoft owned studio will no longer be released on Sony consoles" that would be the end of Sony gaming and anyone thinking otherwise is lying to themselves.
@Banjo- good LORD what in the world. How can they keep going with that kind of mounting debt?
Stellar Blade please.
Money talks. Sony has realized their walled garden approach is a diminishing return. Big name multiplayer games are becoming too expetto not be cross play. We seeing fewer exclusives already. This article is a well placed troll to all the "world is ending" comments yesterday about MS ending exclusives. 🤣😂
@Cakefish unlikely as stellar blade was made for sony only..
People in here like "I wish it was God of War but it's probably just going to be FFXVI, aww shucks" when in reality (if anything at all) it's probably Foamstars.
When Death Stranding was shadow dropped. I did wonder if others would come like the three PS4 titles developed from Quantic Dream. Detroit: Become Human, Beyond: Two Souls & Heavy Rain.
This could help Square Enix get Final Fantasy 7 remake on Switch & Xbox.
If this is true I guess we would be looking at popular titles like Helldiver's 2, Until Dawn, Demon Souls, Bloodbourne & Nioh first. Then Stellar Blade, Rise of Ronin & Silent Hill Remake.
@Banjo- Exclusivity fanboy? Yeah because Stalker 2 released on PS5 alongside Xbox and wasn't timed at all right? Fun fact Xbox has had more timed deals this gen then Playstation and they have more to come like ARK 2.
@DarthCvrle66 no. But it sounds like Sony is either finding it more difficult to secure 2nd/3rd party exclusives. Or this is Sony trying to counter the possibility of Xbox becoming a far more bigger publisher. If Xbox's 3rd party push includes ID Xbox & Worldwide Publishing? Then Xbox has the upper hand when it comes to 2nd/3rd party developers deals due to having little to no restrictions.
@TonySloth MS can't afford not to release on PS. Gamepass and $69B buyouts have put MS in position when they need Playstation more then Playstation needs them. Yeah sure keep COD off PS but good luck making back a fraction of the money it was making going forward.
God I love seeing business analysts in these comment sections.
Phil always said that bethesda content would be first, better or best on xbox platforms. Never said exclusive.
They just extended this now to other games with same mentality.
@johnedwin1969 but that’s exactly what the article is claiming. A current PS5 exclusive going to Xbox. It’s not going to be a first party Sony game, so that only leaves third party exclusives. And out of all of them I hope for Stellar Blade the most.
I can't help but notice that if anyone from MS even whispers the word playstation then bam! You'll see 2-3 stories about it over on push square, stirring the pot.
But when it's the other way around...nah son, it's tumbleweed city.
@DennisReynolds Hold your horses. I've never said that Microsoft hasn't done exclusives, but surely even a Sony fan that hates Xbox can see the difference between their former CEO and the new?
@Cakefish to be fair. Sony has destroyed their first party output with their live service push. Hence all the remake/remasters. So that could be only a handful of titles a year Xbox misses out on.
So if it's just 2nd/3rd party exclusives that go multiplatform after deals expire. That could be the bulk of Sony's output till they recover.
@Banjo- Sony's new gaming CEO is the brains behind Concord so 🤷♂️
Silent hill 2 is a given, I'd be very surprised if that isn't on Xbox by this time next year
I think spiderman would be a good game for them to put on xbox
