It wasn't exactly a quiet Christmas Day for Halo this year, as although Halo Studios hasn't got anything to announce right now, some random poster on 4chan decided to leak 90GB worth of content relating to the franchise.
That's according to a report from The Game Post, which mentions that the leak was for the "Halo Digsite Archive" - a resource that modders have previously used to help 343 Industries restore old content from early Halo games.
The person called "John" (seen in the tweet above) used to work on the Halo Digsite project, and advised that nobody is aware of who caused the leak yet, and it actually contains some .dll files that he didn't have access to.
It was a bit of a controversial project amongst some people who worked on it as well, as there never appeared to be a financial incentive - something that John says "is what it is", and that he was doing it simply for the "love of the game".
Anyway, the TL;DR is that a big leak for classic Halo titles has arrived on the internet, and we may start seeing a bunch of leaked content over the coming days and weeks. It doesn't appear that anything relating to the future of the franchise is part of this though - it's mainly focused on everything from Halo 1 up to Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

it’s always interesting to see how much work goes into a game . it’s like watching behind the scenes movies
Seems to be the season as multiple reports are starting to surface of account hacks regarding the Path of Exile 2 early access.
Seems to be mainly pc players so far. To make matters worse nearly all of GGG are on their holiday break so help is hard to come by right now.

Now let’s see if the industry treats it as the Insomniac leak which nobody wanted to discuss for “respect” or instead they run rampant as they do with any other leak that isn’t from Sony…
@IOI Not that i’m saying that any leak is cool to share, but since you bring up the Insomniac leak. You do see the difference in magnitude of those two leaks right? This one is 90GB, relating only to old game content, so there’s no roadmap to leak, and as far as we know doesnt include private employee info.
Insomniacs data was being held for ransom for the amount of $2million dollars.
The Insomniac leak was a devastating 1670GB leak where ALL of their future plans got leaked, including financials, licensing deals, private employee information and documents including passports. Whole builds of games currently in development are playable, which caused delays in development and marketing, ehich cost them a lot of money. All employees sensitive information from where they live to emails and video meetings, even their t shirt sizes were leaked. Now thats dangerous in any case, but in this industry where devs are sometimes personally targeted by angry costumers its even scarier.
I dont even have much of an opinion right now about the morality of looking at leaked documents. But implying its somehow wrong that part of the industry didnt want to discuss the leaks out of “respect” seems a bit insensitive. There were many people discussing the cr*p out of it btw, there are tons of videos on youtube about it, even playing all the builds and leaking the whole roadmap. But I do understand that professional websites would not want to do that.
@LogicStrikesAgain this is such a fantastic reply that captures the scale of the two leaks here.
@LogicStrikesAgain Perfect reply to whataboutism!
What this 'leak' is, basically, is equivalent to someone sneaking onto an abandoned archeological site and letting everyone in because the site's not had anyone do anything with it in years.
Digital archeology being different to physical archeology in that you don't find the footprints of a thousand people wrecking something that might actually be interesting in what's there.
@IOI they are VERY different situations. Insomniac leak was future unannounced games, employee doxxing, studio roadmap for the next 10+ years, Sony financial documents, business deals, etc. there was a lot of harmful stuff that was being ransomed by hackers.
This leak seems firmly in the past, from what I’ve seen there is nothing partially harmful there and no one is bending Microsoft over a barrel ransoming them. It’s a VERY different scenario, comparing the two is a false equivalency, surely you can see that.
@LogicStrikesAgain well said 👏👏👏
@LogicStrikesAgain Your username is very apt in summing up your view on it. Lol.
I wouldn't say it's right to leak this information but it seems to be the older versions that were released on the original Xbox and X360. These titles are available via backwards compatibility but all the older titles were delisted when the master chief collection was released, or soon after. Even MS has said they are not giving the master chief collection anymore updates.
