Believe it or not, it's actually been 935 days since Halo's Master Chief skin was last present in Fortnite! That date was June 3rd of 2022, but as a special Christmas treat, a bunch of Halo items (including that skin) have just reappeared.
That's obviously great news for any Halo fans who love playing Fortnite, but the controversy stems from the previously unlockable "Matte Black" skin that came with the main one. In the past, if you played just one game of Fortnite with the Master Chief skin on Xbox Series X|S, you'd also get the Matte Black version at no extra charge.
However, that's sadly no longer the case. In a statement posted on social media this morning, the Fortnite Status account advised that the Matte Black skin is "no longer unlockable" as of December 2024. Here's a look:
"The Matte Black style for The Master Chief is no longer unlockable. This style is limited to players who purchased the outfit and played on an Xbox Series X|S prior to December 2024.
Any purchases of the Master Chief made today can be returned without spending a Return Ticket if they prefer, by reaching out to Player Support here: http://fn.gg/support"
As you can see, Epic Games is at least offering refunds for anyone who's disappointed by the lack of Matte Black skin, but there are a lot of Halo fans questioning why it's no longer available in the first place. Ultimately, we have no idea!
So, by all means go and spend some V-Bucks on Halo goodies in Fortnite over the holiday period, but just keep in mind that if it's the Matte Black skin that you particularly like, there's currently no way of obtaining it in any fashion.
