You might consider the biggest Xbox releases this week to be Stalker 2 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, but don't forget the other massive one - free-to-play sensation Genshin Impact arrives on Wednesday, November 20th.
If you want to be ready to go on Wednesday, you can actually preload Genshin Impact on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S right now, and you might be surprised to learn that it's over 100GB! Here's what some Xbox fans have been saying:
Obviously there are some shocked reactions out there to the 100GB requirement, but others have been pointing out that it's a similar story on PC, as well as noting that the game is extremely large and contains a huge amount of content.
Anyway, it might be worth clearing some space ahead of time (not easy with Stalker 2 and Flight Sim 2024 on the way as well!), and then get it installed early - you may as well be as prepared as possible for its arrival on Wednesday.
Excited for Genshin Impact on Xbox? Surprised by the download size? Tell us in the comments.

This ever expanding game is 100gb,
Yet stalker 2 is 150gb - btw when are reviews for this?
I unfortunately bumped into some threads on it and it sounds like performance might be an issue. - I’d rather not download 150gb if it’s worth waiting for a patch
Genshin Impact is a huge game in general now. It's not surprising it'd take up a lot of space.
The Smart delivery system seems to be on vacation lately. I've noticed a bunch of new releases are much bigger than they should be. Just a couple notable off the top of my head:
Metaphos: Refantazio 77g approximate. This is the actual size of both the PS4 and PS5 sizes combined. The PS5 file is around 38gigs.
To The Moon: 6gig??? I Don't know what is up with this one. The actual file is 276mb. On like everything. The Xbox file is roughly 1.9g for some unknown reason but then it also has to 'reserve' 4gigs?
My distrusting nature of files with unknown properties that defy logic prompted a quick un-install of To The Moon.
File size is probably one of the bigger issues with Xbox this generation as a Series S owner. I’m basically either streaming games on xCloud or playing basically two games and that’s it because there’s so little space and file sizes are massive. I wasn’t expecting to wait on the reviews for Stalker 2 and Flight Sim to install, but I literally can’t figure out yet if I can fit them on my Xbox without just dumping the hard drive clean. 😂
Cant believe how big Genshin’s file is, given its size elsewhere!
MS should probably hit Sony up about their Kraken compression techniques.
Ah. It’s so good not having to download the likes of Forza Motorsport, Horizon or the upcoming Stalker 2 if you only use xCloud. I really love the fact I can just switch between these games in an instant without pre-downloading anything.
lol 100gb for a xbox360 game
The PC version is over 80 GB and the PS4/5 version is over 100 GB as well, so this isn't as 'staggering' as people make out.
When the Playstation version launched, it was about the same size as the PC version is now. Active MMOs are notorious for slowly growing with every update, so this isn't shocking to me.
I'm surprised that anyone is surprised. It's a huge game that's had a lot of content updates since release. Also the Xbox release will have high resolution assets.
I've already pre-downloaded this morning. Ready to go.
This is why I'm happy I bought a series x(I also bought the series s for my nephew who lives with me...I bought for me but gave it to him when i got the SX . Anyways thats irrelevant....but my lil bro was so happy. He never had his own game system and the only reason I even bought the SX right after I bought the SS was because my nephew came to live with me ..and all hes ever wanted in gaming was to be able to play with his friends in Roblox with a mic...I definitely have parent protections set up ..but anyways I'm so off topic..). The extra drive space on the series x is really nice. Also, the SS and sx have that expansion port ..but those SSD expansions are certainly expensive...but if you're not impatient you can always find them on a decent deal somewhere. I would definitely love a gaming PC coupled with Xbox gp ultimate and probably Steam because I noticed PC players always seem to recommend steam...I won't give up on gamepass though because Phil Spencer has changed the game for all of us in the Xbox ecosystem for the better. Xbox one gen was sorta crap imo . He had to save the brand and he had to do it in huge ways. I now have the players choice to buy or play..when I buy i support the devs...when I just play my gp fees support the devs. It's a win win for everyone. I also have a PS5 but in my honest OPINION...it has been boring on average. There's a couple cool games for sure but it's not as exciting as the SX...and the SX has third party titles on lock whereas the PS5 is timed. Anyways that doesn't matter because I own both but obviously I can't pick the ps5 version of a game that's on Xbox because Xbox games come with all versions (PC and console .and even Mobile if available) and I get to try it first on go to see if its worth it.
I'm not trying to sound like one of those weird console warriors. It's my one day off work and I'm a lil stoned .lol. playing death Stranding actually. I just completed chapter 2 and fought my first big BT boss
I kno the Series X has like 800gb of space but I feel like I filled it pretty quick…I kno a external hard drive is cheaper then an SSD but I’ve gotten so use to quick resume and my laziness in general for uninstalling/reinstalling had me buy an SSD card lol
This first world problems are crazy. 😂
Genshin's world is enormous and new areas are released every few months, with new soundtracks and new voice acting. It's been doing this for 4 years so yeah, of course it's huge
No worries for me, I'll play it in the cloud
Its one of the largest games i've ever played. 100GB+ is expected.
That is still smaller than Forza Horizon 5 and Jedi Survivor. Those two games are approaching 150 GB individually.
It would be nice if this would work running off of a regular USB, rather than requiring the internal hard drive, given the limited capacity.
Ugh.
Starting to wonder if they're all in cahoots with the storage expansion card makers (all 2 of them)... /s
I'm going to find it hilarious when the World Of Warcraft console version appears on XBOX and the X|S version is something like 200-250 GB, and we have this same argument, while wondering how many of the people here have the entire Call Of Duty series and are grumbling since they need to uninstall the Call Of Duty Hub to get Genshin Impact into the space.
Going to play this on the G Cloud
Reasons to play it on Cloud -
1. Controller Support out of the box on any and all devices.
2. You can have Ultra graphics settings on an Android or iPhone that can't run it above Medium settings.
3. You can run it on an Android without needing to make space for it.
100GB for a game that's been getting constant updates for years is very reasonable compared to the yearly Assassin's Creeds are half that minimum before any updates or DLC, especially on Xbox.
I bought a series x to play games in 4k, on my 4k projector and listen to dolby atmos sound on my 7.1 soundbar and xcloud doesn't deliver 4k and not sure about dolby atmos. So xcloud gaming is a big no for me.
Looking forward to my Waifu adventures 😊
Well it looks fun, to a degree but I don't really have the time or space for the game. I've tried online FF14 and I just don't want to spend the amount of time the game demands you to spend playing it.
@munstahunta
XCloud does support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. I’ve just finished Black Ops 6 campaign and loved the way both worked. As for the resolution, MS will prolly add it later on. I get why you’d prefer to play it the traditional way, though. That said, yesterday I played Forza Motorsport in 1080p/60 via xCloud and throughout the 2 hours of racing I had almost zero lag and the game looked/played great. MS also recently improved the bitrate so the blurriness that used to be there is basically gone.
