It's finally almost time for Stalker 2! The highly-anticipated Xbox console exclusive (at least for now!) arrives via Xbox Game Pass on Wednesday, November 20th, and preloads have begun today - meaning you can begin installing it.
And wow - we weren't expecting it to be quite this large! On Xbox Series X, we're getting a figure of 147.6 GB, placing Stalker 2 amongst the likes of Call of Duty, Baldur's Gate 3 and NBA 2K as some of the largest titles available on Xbox.

The good news is that even if you haven't bought Stalker 2 yet, or you don't have Xbox Game Pass, the game can still be downloaded via the Xbox mobile app - simply by searching for the name and then hitting "Download to Console".
We're assuming most Pure Xbox readers will be grabbing this with Game Pass though, in which case you'll need to go to the Xbox Game Pass app on your console, look for the "Coming Soon" section, find Stalker 2, and then hit "Pre-Install All". If you haven't got enough space, don't forget it'll be available with Xbox Cloud Gaming as well.
Will you be pre-loading Stalker 2 ahead of its Xbox release next week? Tell us down in the comments below.

I'll be playing it on PC but from previews I expected it to be a large filesize. I have the trilogy on pc and series X but couldn't get into them as much due to jankiness or perhaps I didn't have the patience. In any case stalker 2 looks amazing and I look forward to it
Oof. 147 GB. Need to free up space.
I think we can all afford to cut them a little slack regarding that whopping file size in light of everything the studio had to go through to get this game out the door. Still, I’m hoping for a significant reduction in file size for the PlayStation version, and fingers crossed there will be a physical disc I can buy and own in perpetuity without needing to worry if it’ll be changed/patched/‘fixed’ or taken away from me.
I don’t care how big the file size is.
What matters most is that it turns out to be an amazing top end AAA game.
The file size maybe big because of the gorgeous graphics and stunning environments and biomes and great gameplay and AI for enemies etc.
Let’s not complain if it becomes all the above and truly is truly exceptional. That’s what is most important.
I was looking at my space earlier. My Series X is about 75% full and I can't figure out how. I have CoD clocking in at about 350gb (although the individual components don't add up anywhere near that), Starfield and the Starfield artbook and music and a few other games totalling about 70gb. It feels like at least a couple of hundred gb have gone missing...
WHOA! Might have to sacrifice Flight Sim or Forza Horizon for this.
@LaurenceJ1987 Go to Games and Apps and then Sort by Size, you should see what is taking up space. Also remember you don't get all the usable storage XSX only gets 802GB of the 1TB, the rest is used by the system for quick resume etc. Lastly videos, screen captures etc. also take up some space.
Downloading it right now hopefully the game is good I'll have to play on series s for about a month till I upgrade to series x for Christmas good times ahead!
Just started the download & can't wait to get stuck into this one.
I resubscribed for the holiday season and tried Black Ops 6 but it's just more of the same old COD (albeit still relatively polished). Deleted after the paranormal mission so I have space to try Stalker (followed by MSFS and Indiana Jones). I love the Metro series and am hoping for a similar vibe here.
@LaurenceJ1987
Check the reserved space for cod maybe for your other games too.
Don't delete your saves but you can delete reserved space and it won't reserve that space until you open cod again.
So you can delete cod reserved space when you want to Play another game, just don't open cod until you're done with the other game.
@themightyant Thanks - that's a handy tip! I suspect I'm just acutely becoming aware now that I basically have a few massive games on there. But will investigate this.
@qqbangbang Nearly 50gb of reserved space for CoD! Woah. Thanks.
147gb?!? Yikes! Need to do some Xbox housekeeping before I start the download.
It is indeed a chonker! I asked for it for my birthday and I've got the space cleared for it! Can't wait.
@LaurenceJ1987 you're welcome
This is the time to have an external drive. No unnecessary deletion and redownloading. Around the pandemic, a 5TB external drive can be bought for $80 during major sales.
Finished downloading it lol now just count the days until it release 😁🕹️🎮🐶🐾
Ooof, my Series S just shed a tear at that size!
@Balaam_ precisely. It's a miracle the game is even coming out at all, given the devs' circumstances.
@cardcrusher29 Here in the UK, amazon are selling the 512GB Seagate Expansion for £85. I'm really tempted to bite the bullet 🤔
Isn't that like, 16p per GB? 😏 Doesn't sound too bad... 😁
@RetroMan71
If the SSD speed and convenience appeals to you, that's the way to go. TBH SSD vs old school HD is almost apples and oranges in terms of price/capacity to performance. Even on PSN, a discounted and generic 1TB SSD internal addition can't be compared to old school external HD that people should have lying around if they've been playing for years.
