Xbox Game Pass gets another day one release today in the form of Metal Slug Tactics, and while a busy schedule has prevented us from delivering a Pure Xbox review for this one, plenty of other outlets have begun posting their thoughts on the title.
And, it's looking like a more-than-solid addition to the Game Pass library! So, without further ado, here's what some of those Metal Slug Tactics reviews are saying about it so far:
GameGrin (9.5/10)
"Metal Slug Tactics' move from the arcade to a tactical RPG has turned out better than I ever expected, this game is both challenging and rewarding to play."
Noisy Pixel (9/10)
"Metal Slug Tactics doesn't quite reinvent the strategy genre, but it does offer up a lot of addictive, explosive and satisfying action. The core of the Metal Slug series lies comfortably within this new genre along with plenty of familiar sights, sounds and characters that will please fans. A great take on turn based strategy and one that feels distinctly true to its roots."
Push Square (8/10)
"From the moment it was announced Metal Slug Tactics was a winner in our eyes. Marrying the SNK classic with the turn-based tactics genre is a golden idea on paper. Hearing it’s a roguelike in the vein of Into the Breach was the coup de grâce for this game being anything but a banger. And we’re happy to say it lives up to those lofty expectations."
IGN (8/10)
"From its lively, cartoonish sprites to its energetic soundtrack, Metal Slug Tactics is a meticulously crafted ode to the arcade classic that never gets lost blindly chasing its adoration for the series without understanding what makes Metal Slug great."
PCGamer (7.6/10)
"Bugs aside, Metal Slug Tactics has been a great little surprise. Win or lose, it’s hard to resist the air-raid siren call of just one more run-and-gun through Morden’s army."
GamesRadar (7/10)
"A fun and refreshingly light-on-its-feet tactics game successfully translates a lot of Metal Slug's charms into the turn-based genre. But it's not as natural a fit as Gears Tactics was, and an obtuse UI combined with abundant glitches hold it back."
COGConnected (7/10)
"Leikir Studio has successfully reimagined a classic franchise for a new genre, and despite some issues with system clarity, the addictive gameplay loop offers a fun and innovative twist on tactical strategy."
This sounds like a worthy addition to Xbox Game Pass, then! At the time of posting, the game has a Metacritic score of 78 and an OpenCritic rating of 79 - respectable scores all around for Metal Slug Tactics so far.

I don’t understand why the article title is phrased the way it is—is there a difference between Metal Slug Tactics on Gamepass and when you buy it a la carte? Is there bonus content or something along those lines?
@Balaam_ the website gets way more hits if it mentions gamepass in the title hence why we see it more and more.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner @Balaam_ Yep, that's it.
If we mention that the game is included with Game Pass, it automatically generates a lot more interest.
@FraserG
I don't see the problem to be honest. Lets people know it's on Game Pass in case they didn't know and doesn't take anything away from the article.
Pc gamer=miserable haters
Push square said there's a bug that affects ps but pc not so much just wondered anyone know if Xbox is buggy like ps or ok like pc 😅
@PsBoxSwitchOwner @Balaam_ I personally find it irritating that so many news articles, reviews, etc mention Xbox or Game Pass in the headline, but if it gets the site more traffic and ad revenue then I can't really argue with that logic.
@Markatron84 I get why the site does it. I questioned it previously, because for me it brings up the old ‘good enough for GP’ kinda thing
@FraserG Honestly, it's refreshing to see journos straight up admit to the SEO tricks.
The other one here that always amuses me is the fact that every single article has to have 'Xbox' shoehorned into the headline. I completely understand why, but it's so weird going down the feed and just seeing the word 'Xbox' repeated constantly.
I just downloaded, excited to try it! I like tactics games, and Rogue lites, so sounds perfect. I have no history with Metal Slug but it looks good
@Markatron84 @FraserG meant more interest in the game itself
@MjJmediablogger maybe so, but I bet wanting the clicks and engagement outweighs wanting to drum up interest in the game 😉
