Roundup: Here's What The Critics Think Of Metal Slug Tactics On Xbox Game Pass

Xbox Game Pass gets another day one release today in the form of Metal Slug Tactics, and while a busy schedule has prevented us from delivering a Pure Xbox review for this one, plenty of other outlets have begun posting their thoughts on the title.

And, it's looking like a more-than-solid addition to the Game Pass library! So, without further ado, here's what some of those Metal Slug Tactics reviews are saying about it so far:

GameGrin (9.5/10)

"Metal Slug Tactics' move from the arcade to a tactical RPG has turned out better than I ever expected, this game is both challenging and rewarding to play."

Noisy Pixel (9/10)

"Metal Slug Tactics doesn't quite reinvent the strategy genre, but it does offer up a lot of addictive, explosive and satisfying action. The core of the Metal Slug series lies comfortably within this new genre along with plenty of familiar sights, sounds and characters that will please fans. A great take on turn based strategy and one that feels distinctly true to its roots."

Push Square (8/10)

"From the moment it was announced Metal Slug Tactics was a winner in our eyes. Marrying the SNK classic with the turn-based tactics genre is a golden idea on paper. Hearing it’s a roguelike in the vein of Into the Breach was the coup de grâce for this game being anything but a banger. And we’re happy to say it lives up to those lofty expectations."

IGN (8/10)

"From its lively, cartoonish sprites to its energetic soundtrack, Metal Slug Tactics is a meticulously crafted ode to the arcade classic that never gets lost blindly chasing its adoration for the series without understanding what makes Metal Slug great."

PCGamer (7.6/10)

"Bugs aside, Metal Slug Tactics has been a great little surprise. Win or lose, it’s hard to resist the air-raid siren call of just one more run-and-gun through Morden’s army."

GamesRadar (7/10)

"A fun and refreshingly light-on-its-feet tactics game successfully translates a lot of Metal Slug's charms into the turn-based genre. But it's not as natural a fit as Gears Tactics was, and an obtuse UI combined with abundant glitches hold it back."

COGConnected (7/10)

"Leikir Studio has successfully reimagined a classic franchise for a new genre, and despite some issues with system clarity, the addictive gameplay loop offers a fun and innovative twist on tactical strategy."

This sounds like a worthy addition to Xbox Game Pass, then! At the time of posting, the game has a Metacritic score of 78 and an OpenCritic rating of 79 - respectable scores all around for Metal Slug Tactics so far.
