Since the Fortnite boom, more and more online shooters have introduced cosmetic microtransactions. Even the war-themed title Call of Duty has taken inspiration from this over the years, and although the series has already added all sorts of wacky cosmetics in past iterations, the latest skins in Black Ops 6 are definitely up there.
Following the arrival of a bunch of themed skins recently, it seems the Black Ops 6 community has started questioning why they exist - with players asking the game's developers to tone down these skins and instead maybe focus more on the gameplay itself and any existing issues in multiplayer.
One user on the Xbox subreddit called out these skins as "obnoxious" and mentioned how they would even be happy to pay for an option to turn them off completely.
"Please Activision - if you won’t give us an option to manually disable the eyesore I will literally pay you for it. Name your price dawg, I got this game for free (ty Xbox) so I’d gladly pay a decent amount of money to just be able to play a military shooter where it actually looks like I’m engaged in military combat."
Again, the reaction to these new skins is not an isolated case - with many Call of Duty fans on social media also filing similar requests, while seemingly accepting the fact nothing will likely be done in response to these complaints.
One other point raised is the title is only a month old, and there are apparently other areas that need some work, like the game's anti-cheat:
Although there is a chunk of the community that aren't quite as taken with the cosmetics now showing up in Black Ops 6, it doesn't seem to be impacting the popularity of the latest entry - with Activision revealing earlier this week it's the biggest launch month ever for a Call of Duty game, with the most overall players, hours played and matches played.
How do you feel about online shooters like Call of Duty adding all sorts of character DLC? Would you like to see it toned down? Let us know your own thoughts in the comments.

I love the skins….they make people stick out like a sore thumb. The amber faced cyborg thing from the thumbnail is just asking for headshots.
@GeeEssEff this is the correct answer 😎
@Kezelpaso Haha don’t even get me started on that bright green fairy running around. If people want to pay £10 to be at a disadvantage I say let them!
“Yay, I look like I’m on fire!”
Sniper about to pull the trigger: “Yay, he looks like he’s on fire!”
I dont care about the skins, i just love the game to bits. Playing it on Gamepass.
People really just love to moan honestly I could care less what the guy I'm shooting looks like!!
And like people are saying they stick out like a sore thumb let people waste there money on them! These people are the reason you don't need to buy map packs anymore like back in the 360 days!
Those who complain forgot the MW3 Niki Minaj days lol.
I personally despise all these flashy childish skins. Ruins the atmosphere and games feels like a clown show. But it is what it is.
I can see their point. 343 didn’t go too daft but the idea of custom skins in Halo just didn’t sit right.
The problem is that maintaining an ongoing shooter, even server costs isn’t cheap. The upfront cost is one thing but skins do drive engagement and revenue.
Perhaps in the case of Call of Duty they should stick to military-themed licences too. I know they’ve done Rambo in the past; there are loads of other movies and franchises they could include without changing the spirit of the game.
Who df cares. Its that simple, if they dont like it then they don't have to buy it. Its a damn arcade shooter not a simulation. If anything its a pay to lose.
1) Call of Duty is not a military Sim it's an arcade shooter so people can't argue that it's unrealistic. Yeah this from people who go around a map bunny hopping and sliding around on their arses like it's ice.
2) Don't want goof skins well easy salutation, let your wallet do the talking. Don't buy them. The only reason they do it is because of how much money they make if they didn't make that much money they wouldn't have them.
Players: I don't want goofy skins
Activision: But we just came out with this furry dragon skin, a weed outfit skin and a anime girl skin.
Player: Shut up and take my money!!!
It’s not that big of a deal hahahaha. Let them make their money.
This is why I only like the single player campaigns. I like the mature military stories not whatever this crap is.
You can tell who here in the comments have spent money on these dopey things. Funny enough I was thinking about this recently because I had played a match on Black Ops 6 where I had faced a person on the other team using this skin on a snow map. Pretty easy to spot them and kill them over and over. Don’t know why you would put yourself at such a disadvantage.
Not sure how this warranted an article, but they are there because people want them. If no one brought them, they wouldn't bother making these bundles. The constant comparison to Fortnight is also weak since CoD has had crazy skins since before that game even existed.
@Tasuki yeah let's blame the players, makes sense!
Just because an infinitesimally small percentage of the community buy this crap doesn't mean all of the community wants it, I feel daft even having to say that out loud.
And let's not forget that they wouldn't buy them in the first place if they weren't offered to them.
Supply decides demand in these cases.
Oh and the "unrealistic" remark makes no sense.
Nicky Minaj and Snoop Dogg are realistic models, but they're still wildly out of place.
It's a matter of having an identity and style of your own compared to being a kitchen sink of nonsensical crossovers, which both Cod and Fortnite have devolved into.
@clvr It's not that small of a community that buys this stuff, if it was then it wouldn't be making Activision billions.
Removed - trolling/baiting
I miss the days when military shooters just had everyone running around as soldiers wearing uniforms and none of these "look at me" ridiculous looking skins. It's made everything look so cartoonish.

These character artists should put their pencils down and get working fixing the anti-cheat system as of course those are the same people who work on everything, and Call of Duty only hires three people to run the studio.
