This week, the team at CD Projekt RED has updated us on everything going on at the studio - and we have some pretty major milestones to share here. Alongside Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion hitting massive new sales milestones, the team has also entered the production phase on 'Project Polaris' - i.e. The Witcher 4.
For now though, onto those sales figures. Across all platforms — including Xbox One and Series X|S — Cyberpunk 2077 has now sold a staggering 30 million copies. Its Phantom Liberty expansion — which was next-gen exclusive on console and came out in 2023 — has now sold 8 million units as well.
As for The Witcher 4, details are still very scarce of course, but we know the team is fully focused on that after wrapping up development on Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty earlier this year. We'll be waiting a while for the team's next epic RPG, but The Witcher 4 is definitely a big priority for CD Projekt RED now!
Can you believe that the Polish developer was talking about Cyperpunk 2077 for an entire decade before it moved on? Honestly, we can't quite believe it, but at least the game managed to shift enough copies to justify its super-long development time.

8 million for DLC is amazing, as is a 26% attach rate, well done CDPR.
Like the Witcher 3 though sales are likely elevated because they know how to have a deep sale. Witcher 3 with all DLC is frequently £6.99 or less, i've double dipped at that price, and Cyberpunk 2077 is frequently £19.99 - £23.99. Smart business.
Darn, I was hoping to get a platform by platform sales breakdown in this article based off that “including Xbox” part, but I guess they didn’t share those specifics. I suppose it’s just for morale?
I freely admit that they got two physical purchases out of me. One was the PS4 version on disc for about $10 when no one wanted it (I bought it knowing a free PS5 native upgrade was coming!) and then the complete edition for series X so I’d have the DLC on disc as well. I’d honestly have gotten the PS5 version instead, but Phantom Liberty was included as a code, not on physical media.
I'm casually playing through Witcher 3 'new game +' as it's still my favourite game of all time. Cyberpunk ended up being a very good game in the face of high expectations and a rather awful launch. I was waiting for the DLC to go on a deeper sale but I think it's probably time to jump in.
That’s 3 copies just by me (PC, Xbox and PS5). My fav game of all time and I’m ecstatic that I can now play it via xCloud (which will be my go-to platform in the future if MS keeps developing it).
Lol. Just bought a PC copy of CP2077 ultimate (had the base version on my Xbox previously) and 24h later they announced this milestone.
@16BitHero jump in, even for the full price. The DLC’s story plus side missions took me almost as long the CP’s main story to complete. It was well worth it. And if you’re a completionist, that’s a bargain
SOLD. I've been hesitating mostly because of the new mechanics and refinements they've patched in since I completed the campaign. I started the campaign over but do you think I'd be ok jumping straight into the DLC regardless?
‘Number’ of copies.
What a game. Let’s just politely forget the launch period. My favourite game since Breath of the Wild and, interestingly, it seems a lot of Japanese developers also really loved it.
Alex Donaldson on Bluesky offering his thoughts after a recent trip to Japan (@apzonerunner.com):
I think the impact of Cyberpunk 2077 has been greatly underrated in the west, probably 'cos of that launch. But almost every Japanese dev I spoke to, big or small, corporate or indie, was vaguely obsessed by it & interested in emulating it. I think even the launch served as a great lesson
I ended up playing Cyberpunk a couple of years after release, and it's quickly become one of my favourite games of all time. Once they sorted out the bugs, it's shown itself to be a masterpiece, and is my favourite CDPR game, which is crazy cause i definitely loved The witcher 3
