It was announced a few months ago that the classic platformer Yooka-Laylee would be getting a remaster in the form of Yooka-Replaylee, and today it's been confirmed that it'll definitely be coming to Xbox Series X and Series S.
This version of the game will feature an "art and animations overhaul", improved performance and resolution, new and improved challenges, better camera controls, a new world map, tweaks to your move set, and much more.
"Yooka-Replaylee is the definitive remastered and enhanced version of the 3D indie platforming collectathon darling, Yooka-Laylee (2017), developed by key creative talent behind the Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country games. New remixed challenges and old favourites await as you embark to explore the huge, beautiful open worlds as the lovable buddy-duo Yooka (the green one) and Laylee (the purple one) once more, all while backed by a beautiful orchestral soundtrack. Did we mention there is a map now? A shiny new currency? And tons of customisation options? The favourite buddy duo has never moved, looked, or sounded better!"
It's still early days for this remaster and we don't have a full release date just yet, but it looks like development is going well - and apparently there's going to be a playable demo of it at EGX in the UK this weekend.
In fact, we're going to let the cat out of the bag and reveal that we've been playing Yooka-Replaylee here at Pure Xbox over the past couple of weeks, and we've put together a comparison with the original that you can watch up above!
We'll throw the official "Console Announcement Trailer" down below as well:

Would have been nice to hit for this Christmas 2024.
Oh, this was likely secret play test you've all been up to. Cool. Congrats on getting that inside track.
I wanted to like this game so bad, they tried so hard to mimic Banjo-Kazooie, but it just was just missing some magic. Not a bad game, but not great either. Hopefully this version improves some of the flaws.
I have never played the Banjo-Kazooie games, it's one of those I couldn't play backl in the day cause I didn't have the right console and now it's on the ever growing backlog of things to play.
I gave money on kickstarter for this one and don't regret it, game was decent, I wouldn't say great. Generally ok with the "impossible lair" one too, although I had some doubts too. Still, as a fan of platforming games, I enjoyed it, so would recommend people who enjoy this genre and hasn't played it before to give it a try if reasonably priced.
I'm unsure, but maybe I'll play the remaster at some point too.
All these remasters are getting ridiculous now especially of average games
Oh wow, not only do the graphics look way better, its gameplay looks to be much smoother as well.
This is more like a remake than a simple remaster.
@Stamnoso You should also play the Banjo-Kazooie games on Rare Replay. The original Yooka-Laylee is inspired by these classics, but can't hold a candle to them.
Please stop with the remakes and remasters, devs, just give us new gaaaames. I bought the original to support the team, but come on...
I didn't finish the original, so I might play this if it comes to game pass. I am a little confused about why they're remastering their game from 2017, though. Why didn't they make a sequel instead? Some budget issues or something like that?
Is it gonna be a free upgrade for those that have the original game?
I find it staggering that impossible lair release 2019 so 5 years ago and I don’t think we have had another game from this studio since.
Yooka to impossible lair was about 2 and half years, so what they been doing for the last five years I ask myself.
Should be releasing a new game not a remaster by now.
@Banjo-

@luke88 It's because everyone bitched about the first game they have zero desire to work on a second. They tried so hard to bring a spiritual successor to BK and everyone ***** on it. Don't expect a sequel or another BK.
For better or worse, it's a copy of Banjo-Kazooie. The original developers are involved, but Original game designer is not. It's like MGS without Kojima.
@Banjo- Thanks for the recommendation, it's definitely on the list, just need to get to it, but I'm kinda feeling excited about it now. So, I might actually start it right after I complete Persona 3; that, however, with my "busy dad schedule" can take a few weeks -.-U
@Stamnoso I have played all the Persona games that have been available on Xbox! I would recommend all of them, "Tactica" not so much unless you are fan of that particular genre (battlefield tactics), but start with Persona 3 and the DLC if you have Game Pass because it's all included. The DLC is included as a Game Pass Ultimate perk.
@Banjo- Yeah, they're pretty cool stuff, right? this was another one of those series that I was aware of, but didn't really gave a try until quite late in my "gaming career". Started with P5 a couple of years back now, played P4G on GP last year and on P3R now in GP too. Yeah, got the DLC downloaded, altough I've heard people say mixed stuff about it. Anyway, I'll try for myself soon, I'm 60+ hours into the game and some pretty shocking stuff just happened, I think I'm on the last couple of months of the game.
Battlefield tactics is a genre that is hit and miss for me, sometimes I like, sometimes I don't (e.g. tried XCOM but for some reason didn't click, but recently completed Mario Rabbids 2 and I enjoyed it, I can't quite say why). Maybe someday will give Tactica a try, but don't know, there too much to play and I got too little time nowadays. I know there's a number of spin offs (e.g. strikers), but haven't quite found the time to play any really.
Hey! Story-wise, you are not missing much if you skip Tactica. To be honest, I felt that the story was a tad boring. As my first game of this genre, it took me a long while getting used to the gameplay, but I enjoyed it eventually. I beat it, but I still haven't beaten the first Mario+Rabbids and have never played Xcom. I need to beat that Mario+Rabbids game, not sure what I quitted so quickly.
I also started with Persona 5 Royal on Xbox, then 4 Golden, then Persona 5 Tactica and finally Persona 3 and the DLC as soon as each was available. The DLC starts slow, you may feel that it's just putting more battles at you with nothing new to tell, which was worse in my case because I had beaten the game months before and the battle addiction was over. I guess this is what many players felt, but then the DLC starts giving more context, story elements and motivation to the player. Since you keep your personas but restart your characters, you can learn different skills this second time. I was surprised how long I played the DLC and how fast it felt, because levelling up seems faster. So I was disappointed in the beginning, but hooked after a few hours. I recommend it 100% as a freebie on Xbox.
PS: I loved Soul Hackers 2, especially because of the soundtrack and the story. I still think about it.
