We've been waiting eons for Starship Troopers: Extermination to come to Xbox after a pretty successful PC launch, and now the time has finally arrived. This Starship Troopers romp is out now on Xbox, and despite a lack of reviews from critics on day one, we do have a good batch of impressions from over on the Xbox Store - along with a chunk of gameplay up above.
So far, the game has a 4/5 rating on Xbox Series X|S, from just over 100 user reviews. While that seems pretty high overall, there are some notable complaints throughout that review range - including mentions of technical issues.
So, we'll throw some of those user impressions down below - both good and bad:
l7l LuSt l7l - Four Stars
"Buyer beware: Tons o' fun, but tends to crash after long horde fights. Nothing worse than 3 to 5 hours wasted for 0 XP.. Other than that though, it's a 16 player freak-show of fanatical fun!
XxDROID3KAxX - Four Stars
"Only issues I have with this game are the gameplay is a little jank and I'm missing my pre-order bonuses."
Duo LionHeart2 - Four Stars
"A little rough around the edges at launch, still a lot of fun to be had. Should be great once it hits its stride."
HyperRustynail - One Star
"You make me sit through an unskippable cutscene at the start of every match before booting out of the game the moment the cutscene ends..."
Agent 36 - One Star
"Crashed first match at extract, made it through 2nd match, 3rd match crash at extraction, the game now crashes on load in. No brightness slider. Garbage release."
hunter demps - Five Stars
"I'm having fun, was worried the servers would be unplayable but they are holding no problem, don't see the pre-order stuff but I'd rather wait on that than wait to play the game..."
On that last Xbox Store review, we're noticing quite a few folks mention this missing pre-order DLC, although we are seeing reports that this issue has potentially been fixed already. At this stage, the game is not on Xbox Game Pass - with this $50 'Warrior Tiger' bundle the only way to grab the title as things stand.
If you'd like to see some Reddit impressions to help make your mind up, we'll throw a handy little thread on the title down below.
In general then, the early reception for Starship Troopers: Extermination on Xbox is quite mixed, and it might be worth holding out for some more in-depth reviews to see where the critics land on this one. It looks like there's a solid game under the hood here, but technical issues are letting the game down somewhat right now on Xbox - hopefully these are all smoothed out in the not-so-distant future.

I was tempted to pick this up but lack of any news or reviews put me off.
Games that disconnect and crash are no go, no plays for me.
Life is too short to constantly waste my time with losing progress and/or added frustration for no reason.
Sony should release Helldivers 2 on Series consoles. Xbox might not have the user base of PS5 but it's still considerable and I don't really consider Helldivers 2 one of Sony's high profile first party system sellers. I have Helldivers 2 on PC. I own a PS5. But this fabulous game is the 'Starship Troopers' game we all needed and should be playable for all! That's democracy. I think.
@16BitHero People act like the probably 30+ million Series consoles out there are "nothing". Sure, it's not selling like PlayStation, but it's still a considerable amount of players to appeal to.
This isn't a Wii U situation where it barely broke 13 million sales.
@GamingFan4Lyf but they also need to consider how many of those 30 million are xbox only console players? I think a lot of people own an Xbox and playstation in today's market. So are people going to buy the game twice if they have it on another system already?
@16BitHero Im all for games coming to all players, I genuinely am.
But if you try and see it from the other side, Sony are assisting develoment and spending cash trying get another unique selling point for their own machine and eco system.
You've only got to look at the article here about Halo and a possible PS5 port to see many of this sites users decry porting such games to another system, as the identity of a platform is mainly associated with games associated exclusively with them.
Microsofts buisness is now not specifically tied to a platform, so thats why they are moving in the direction of a 3rd party publisher, but Sonys buisness depends on an exclusive platform. It makes zero sense for them to put an exclusive desirable product on Xbox, and I think we can all see that.
This game looks like it could be real fun, but it needs to be technically competent before Id be tempted to buy it..
@Titntin All Fair and true points. I just think this game is such a fantastic achievement in pure cooperative 'multiplayer' fun (without most of the negatives associated with other live service games) that it's a shame it isn't multiplatform. You succinctly conveyed the business reality we live however.
Well, I'm trying to play now and it's not letting me connect to a match. But I shall persist! Review soon! đđ«
@FatGuyInLilCoat I am not exactly sure âWell, weâll skip Xbox because even people who have both consoles would just prefer to buy it on PlayStationâ is a sound business consideration.
There are too many assumptions there with a considerably high margin of error.
@GamingFan4Lyf you forgot Xbox isnât allowed to receive anything only give
@GamingFan4Lyf what he says is true. Plus the people who own a pc. Plus the fact a game usually only sells to around 10-20% of the player base maximum.
The 30million quickly drops. And Sony would have to make it run on the series S that matches the X.
I do think that the only way multiplayer games can really survive is by being on as many platforms as possible, and Sony should be looking at putting them on Xbox.
@GamingFan4Lyf 28m as at the end of June, and over the last 12 months Xbox sales have cratered. There's simply no need for Sony to port it.
@NattyKing why. With Microsoft expanding Xbox onto pretty much any device that allows you to buy games, stream them via Games Pass or XCloud via WiFi? Why would Sony not want to make a bit of money of that.
I was going to buy it considering the game specs said it had a single player. According to reviews I've seen it hasn't got a campaign mode.
