BioWare is about to ship its first original game in a good while here with Dragon Age: The Veilguard - a title we happen to like a lot here at Pure Xbox. However, naturally, folks are now beginning to wonder about the next Mass Effect game coming from the EA developer - and the project's director has a small update on the title and its direction.
Taking to social media in the wake of some Dragon Age: The Veilguard reviews dropping, BioWare's Michael Gamble has given us a small update on the next Mass Effect game. Here's what he had to say on the project:
"Lots of people asking me about Mass Effect now that Veilguard reviews are out, and Oct 31 is close.
Both are from the studio, but Mass Effect is Mass Effect. How you bring a Sci Fi RPG to life is different than other genres or IPs...and has to have different kinds of love.
Regarding tone questions: Mass Effect will maintain the mature tone of the original Trilogy. This is all I'm gonna say for now."
Given the lukewarm reception to Mass Effect: Andromeda, and the general love for the series' original three games, this will no doubt be music to the ears of any big Mass Effect fan. As Gamble goes on to say, this is all we're going to get for now - but it's an update nonetheless, and a welcome one at that.
The last major update we got for this game was almost a year ago, when BioWare dropped a brief teaser trailer for the future of Mass Effect during 'N7 Day' 2023. We're just over a week away from that day in 2024, so maybe we might see another update from BioWare then, on what's coming next. Here's hoping!
Hyped for more Mass Effect, when it finally launches? Tell us what you make of this update down below.

Day One for me! Hopefully there will be a Collector's Edition too. So looking forward to this.
Would be good if they include a multiplayer mode just like they did with 3 and Andromeda (though 3s was far better). I put over a thousand hours into 3s multiplayer and am still very high in the world despite not having played it for several years now. Crazy how much fun it was...
if theres no Garrus i may cry
@Fiendish-Beaver i unfortunately found these games too late and never got to try multiplayer!
sounds like it was hella fun though!
This might seem like a no-brainer, but it's an important thing for him to note after Mass Effect: Andromeda. The characters in that game were so casual and quippy that I couldn't take anything seriously. Imagine the tone of Mass Effect 3's Citadel DLC spread over an entire game. That was Andromeda.
Yeah…. Whatever. At this point Bioware are dead to me I won’t be buying their games again.
I never associated the first 3 with a "mature tone" but cool I guess. This news doesn't do much for me.
You can tell that’s a screenshot from the ultimate edition. They really went to town with the blue lens flares!
I don't care about this, but I will comment to let everyone know I don't care about it. 😡
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t interested, but sad reality is the old Bioware is long gone. Hard to feel the same level of enthusiasm anymore.
The main reason I wanted dragon age to succeed is so we get more mass effect ..I loved the og trilogy....never hated the ending like others ....same with Andromeda ....I got put off playing it for a while because of the bad reaction....but when I played it I still loved it....not quite as good as the originals...but still great
I obsessed over the original trilogy but I'm not really bothered anymore it's sad 😭👍🤷
@StylesT I liked Andromeda too, not as much as the others but I enjoyed it.
@StylesT same for me re Andromeda. Played it a 12 month after release and didn't have any technical issues at all and as such really enjoyed it. Not quite as much as the original trilogy but still worthy of bearing the Mass Effect name.
If this is as good as the original trilogy, will definitely get! 🎮🐉🚀
