The brutal co-op shooter Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has seemingly been so successful it appears a third entry is likely to happen.
Speaking to IGN recently, Saber Interactive's Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits mentioned how its breakout success (with over 2 million players at launch) would go on to "positively" impact the developer's future projects, and he would "love" to do a third Space Marine title.
"We just have to figure it out. I would love to do it, yes. Yes, yes, yes! There's so many different factions... there are other chapters, too, that are interesting...”
One proposal by the game's director Dmitry Grigorenko are "some story ideas that could either be DLC or a sequel" but the team admittedly is still catching its breath, according to Willits.
"This is two weeks out. We just need to get the dust to settle. But I can confidently say that we will not disappoint our Warhammer fans in the future. It's too big of a success! I know that's an obvious thing to say, but hopefully we'll be working on Space Marine content for a long time.”
So, there you have it Warhammer 40K fans, it's all sounding quite promising. If you haven't already played this game, be sure to check out our review here on Pure Xbox.
Have you played this one yet? Would you be up for a sequel? Let us know in the comments.

This game should be a message to other developers, sometimes we just want a straight forward, well paced, shorter game that’s just a blast to play. Not every game needs to be massive, open world, super deep in story (that’s coming from someone who went to college for creative writing), or 30+ hour experience.
Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 is the best game I played in the last 4 years .For the Emperor .
I bought the Collector's Edition (the one with the model), but have yet to play the game. I'm in the final throws of another BG3 run, and imagine that I'll be finished with that in about a week. Space Marine 2 is probably the next game that I will play, but I cannot make up my mind as to whether I should play the first game beforehand. I played the original game when it first released back in 2011, and other than that I enjoyed the game, I really cannot remember the game at all. I know it's probably not necessary to play the first game again, but I wouldn't mind the refresher.
Has anyone play the first game recently? If so, how does it hold up now?
@Fiendish-Beaver I'm just finishing an intial playthrough of the first one on the 360 at the mo. I think it holds up really well! I hadn't played it before so the hype for this sequel coming out was a nice treat to push me back to try it out.
Is absolutely worth playing, a nicely paced blast of a campaign and still looks pretty good!
Definitely hoping for more of this sort of thing.
Thank you, @JohnLNine. That's made up my mind then. Return to the first game it is... 😊👍
@Fiendish-Beaver I had never played the first game so I played it on Steam Deck before jumping into 2, it really holds up. There’s a couple of quality of life changes I’d expect to see changed now, but overall it was well worth the playthrough/ another playthrough for anyone who has played it before. The problem is catching it at a good price, I waited for several months before it came down to a good price from that old of a game, for me.
Necrons please. They will put these worshippers of the corpse god in their place 🤣
Thank you, @Odium. Definitely going to replay it then. I'm fortunate enough to still own it on a 360 disc, however, I am unsure whether the Series X can actually play 360 discs... 🤔
Oh! Not only does my 360 Space Marine disc not work on the Series X, but the game is not available on the Store either. Guess I'll have to hook up my 360 then...
