Update (Mon 23rd Sep, 2024): Just a quick update for you on this one - it's now got a release date of October 1, 2024! There will be three editions to choose from, but unfortunately the physical release remains a PS5 exclusive.
Keep an eye out on the Xbox Store - we're assuming pre-orders will go live in the near future.
Original story (Thu 28th Mar, 2024): It was all the way back in April of 2020 that Predator: Hunting Grounds made its debut on PlayStation 4 (and PC), and now it's finally getting an Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S version - albeit not until later in the year.
The news was announced today by developer IllFonic, along with plans to implement various gameplay improvements and add more DLC over the next year-or-so. As you may recall, Predator: Hunting Grounds was originally published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, but the rights are now back in the hands of IllFonic and 20th Century Games.
Here's what the CEO of IllFonic had to say in a press release a few hours ago:
“This game has a strong, enthusiastic player base and a vocal community that wants to see the game updated and supported. Now that IllFonic is publishing games, we knew we had to get Predator: Hunting Grounds back. We knew we needed to get back to the Chopper!”
Sadly, of all the ex-Sony owned games that could be brought over to Xbox, Predator: Hunting Grounds is one of the worst-reviewed ones. The game has a Metacritic score of 56 for PS4 and 62 for PC, with our sister site Push Square also calling it "an experience you can safely skip" in their "Poor" 4/10 review a few years ago.
Time has passed since then though, and the Steam version currently sits at a "Mostly Positive" average rating, so there's reason to check this game out again when it arrives on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S later in 2024.
"Hunt or be hunted in this asymmetrical multiplayer shooter that pits man against Predator. As part of a Fireteam, complete missions before the Predator finds you. Or be the Predator and hunt your prey."

Would be totally fine without it...
Never tried it on ps4 but if it comes to gamepass i will check it out.
But.... But.... But.... But.... But.... But.... But...
I thought third party developers perceived Xbox was dumb and rethinking their Xbox strategy offerings?
@GuyinPA75
It's a 4 year old bad game dude, no need to get defensive over rumours.
@GuyinPA75 Bro I don't think this is the game to be flexing, if anything we should be upset that we are also going to be subjected to this pos.
I think I had a go of this when it was on ps plus and it was absolute dog shiz
If this is a win, we’re all losing.
I like Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed from Illfonic
@ShadowofTwilight @Tecinthehead Not flexing. Just stating what was reported. Nothing more. Nothing less.
I guess it’s good for die hard Predator fans, but the game isn’t very good. Might be a decent Game Pass addition if they can get it for cheap on there. Lets people at least try it out. I played it on PS and didn’t care for it at all.
To be honest, Sucks to read people say that it’s not good because I was starting to get my hopes up when I seen this was going to be coming to Xbox. Predator deserves an actual decent game for once.
If a studio like this can afford to port a (seemingly) sub par game like this to Xbox then all these other developers are full of ***** when they say they don't have the resources to do it.
@LX_FENIX this is years after release, so yeah they may as well.
Plus for smaller developers it’s a case of priorities and that usually means the biggest install base comes first, then if it does well enough it will move to other platforms. They will have far far more data than us and know what a similar games sales are and so on.
If there is a good return to be made on their investment they would release no questions.
I played this for a while and enjoyed it before moving back to Xbox. 100% will play if on game pass or cheap
That was a PS4 exclusive? I played a trial of that game. Absolute trash. They should just keep it an exclusive. And why now?
Like 85% of being an xbox owner is hoping games come over from Playstation lol
Leftovers nom nom nom
I watched my brother play this on PS4. It looked alright and he seemed to really enjoy it when he wasn't dying a lot.
@GuyinPA75 But but but where is the XB1 release? Oh right, they DID skip it.
Just like FFXIV after Phil promised for 7 years they were doing everything to get that PS3 game up and running on XB1 and Live.
Planetside 2 also has been tied up in ZERO timed exclusivity the past 7 years too. Its clearly Xbox Live stopping the 1000 player matches from being possible.
Developers ARE rethinking their release strategies on Xbox and have been a while. Why do you think there are 2500 more games on PS4 last gen than XB1. And NO, it's not timed exclusive deals, especially when a lot of those missing games on Xbox are on Switch and PC too.
Sorry, you just needed a reality check. The sooner you accept it, the less painful it will be for you down the line, like the rest of 2024, when more developers stop being cowards and just speak their minds and the truth of the current situation.
@LX_FENIX They are not full of ****. Just think about it logically for 2 seconds.
1, it's an Unreal Engine game, a multiplatform game engine, they aren't porting over Decima engine game here lol.
2, It's a PS4 game, OF COURSE series s should be able to run it easily enough like most cross gen games this gen.
That's it, that's why this is an easy port.
We are now 3 and a half years into the gen and developers are getting beyond annoyed at making current gen only games and having to spend the most time on Xbox version BECAUSE series s exists and BECAUSE the game sales are simply in the far less minority compared to PC and PlayStation. You can't ignore this. Game sales DO matter.
Do you not think its bizarre that Xbox announced loads of games in 2019 and 2020 and they aren't out yet, some without even release dates? If Xbox had released 10 current gen only 1st party games since the series s/x launched, then you would have an argument that its all the 3rd party developer's fault. But you can't because Xbox's own studios are even in development hell with some of their own games.
Edit, oh and all the latest news and closures, yep, I was right, Perfect Dark is literally in development hell like I thought it was 2 years ago.
I'd check it out if it hits gamepass.
@armondo36 Really? All I ever hear PS5 owners say is they want the Xbox games especially the new titles, even a 6 year old game like Sea Of Thieves is a big seller on PlayStation.
@andrewsqual Meanwhile all Sony can do for the last few years is release only One AAA First Party game a year and not a new IP in sight(well there was Concord but I don't think a $400 million to develope game that lasted 2 weeks counts) most of their other titles are just PS4 games with an update and not current gen developed titles.
Sonys only claim to any kind of exclusivity now days is paying some 3rd party devs not to release on other consoles.
The good news is Coming to Gamepass Before Christmas..
Microsoft First Party AAA. Call of Duty: Black Ops on 6 October,
£70 to for non Gamepass owners.
Microsoft First Party AAA. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 November 19, £70 for non Gamepass owners.
AAA. Stalker 2 November 20. £50 for non Gamepass owners.
Microsoft First Party Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. December 9. £70 For non Gamepass owners.
Nobody wants this awful game at all
Better late than ever. I might try it out.
Well smack my ass and call me Charlie would of been better if the game looked worth a go and to buy now no less I need to be highly impressed to buy in these days of gamepass one has options you know🙆💃
Bloody hell Sony, settle down, bringing your big guns to the competitor's platform!!
@armondo36 Nah sony can keep their games, what good game has come to Xbox from playstation? Deathloop and ghostwire both sucked.
I wanted to play this game but read it was dead on pc and unless it's a reasonable price i definitely won't be playing it on Xbox.
@ralphdibny Was it that bad? IIRC, I downloaded it from PS Plus, but I never actually played it, lol.
Cheers, mate, happy gaming!
@Deityjester It is reported to be $19.99 for the base game, with other editions having dlc and being $39.99 and $69.99, respectively. I put dozens of hours into it on PS4 and had a great - if sometimes sweaty - time. I imagine there will be significant peformance improvements on Series X in terms of fps and lighting, so I'll be one who dips for it.
I've seen this game around and it JUST. WON'T. DIE. I don't mean that in a bad way, either it's really cheap to develop for or the playerbase is rabid.
Glad it's getting a second--- third?-- life.
its an okey game, but really outdated gfx
This would be perfect game pass
