Until yesterday, it didn't seem like Blizzard's legendary StarCraft series would be making a comeback any time soon, and now, both titles are on their way to PC Game Pass. If this wasn't already enough for one week, there are also new rumours about a supposed "StarCraft shooter" being in development.
During a chat with IGN about his new book Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier referenced one segment of it - revealing how a small team is apparently "incubating" a new StarCraft shooter.
This has reportedly been going on since the cancellation of Blizzard's survival game after Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard and King. This rumoured shooter is being developed by a handful of talent from the same cancelled project and is believed to be led by industry veteran Dan Hay, who has previously been involved with Ubisoft's Far Cry series.
Before you get too excited, this project is considered to be in the early phases of its life and Blizzard obviously has a bit of a track record when it comes to the cancellation of StarCraft shooters (previously axing StarCraft: Ghost and a project codenamed 'Ares'). This is all the information that's been shared for now, so again - treat it as a rumour.
During its Tokyo Game Show broadcast yesterday, Xbox announced StarCraft Remastered and StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection would be added to PC Game Pass on November 5th, 2024.
Would you be interested in seeing Blizzard expand the StarCraft universe beyond RTS? Let us know in the comments.

With the success of a similar Space Marine style game recently MS would be wise to capitalize on the market for strong single-player and co-op space marine action.
The question is: Can they differentiate it enough from their own Halo and Gears franchises?
Maybe Blizzard will finally release Starcraft Ghost.
I'm still sad about Starcraft Ghost, even all these years later. It looked really fun. ðŸ˜
Yeah, whatever. Blizzard used to mean something. Now I treat them like a 3rd party company using Blizzard’s IPs, but with creative freedoms crippled by overseers from EA-like corporation.
blizzard is dead
@Tasuki exactly, always thought Ghost would be an interesting addition to the universe. I would love to see something in the lines of that.
Better be 1st person viewpoint
This is crap IMO. No console port, and to add insult to injury, freaking PC Game Pass is CHEAPER than Game Pass on Xbox.
You want to open StarCraft up to new audiences? Port it to console (with BOTH controller and mouse/keyboard support) AND release it on Steam.
It does have a glimmer of hope as Dan led some really good projects with Far cry
@bicbuck While it is annoying that part of the reason console Game Pass is more expensive than PC is down to paid multiplayer, another reason PC is cheaper is because the console library of Game Pass games is significantly larger than PC Game Pass - especially when you consider that some games on console Game Pass never released on PC plus there are developers/publisher who simply don't release their games to the Microsoft Store.
Heck, even DOOM (2016) isn't on PC Game Pass - and Microsoft owns it!
We shouldn't be having to pay for multiplayer in the year of our lord 2024 if we're already forking over $ to MS on a monthly basis. I understand server cost, blah blah blah, but the reality is they're charging us for it because they can/they always have. PC's don't have server costs?
The way MS continually makes me (an Xbox customer) feel like a second class citizen in their ecosystem has really soured my enjoyment of this generation.
